Here's a thought -- would it be a good idea for us to publish the spamming IPs that we ban, so others can see which IPs are causing the problems?
YES... and I just banned the one you have published on all three of my blogs.

Yep, publish them. It's your blog, it's your disk, you're paying, and they are intentionally violating the terms of service.

I think we should not only ban them but we should charge them $1 per spam for our time and trouble deleting them. I contacted Ron Paul's office and told them to shut off the bots or get out their checkbook, they claimed they no control over it but it stopped the next day. Your idea is a good one, Jay. I posted my ban list.

Buying a service to get your numbers up to, presumably, get paid more for blog-ads and stuff subverts the system. Even if they never once posted anywhere they weren't invited it's like pooping in the pool.
It might be legal. Probably is.
Good proof that legality is irrelevant.

Maybe I watched too many cartoons as a kid (or as an adult), but the Odin's hammer reference got me thinking of the scene where Elmer and Bugs are doing an opera, and Elmer has a sword and is singing, "Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!"
Except this time, Elmer had a hammer and was singing, "Kill the spammer! Kill the spammer! Kill the spammer!"
