An attack -- or even an attempted attack -- by Islamic extremists on Saudi Arabia's oil sector would have disastrous consequences on the world market and the price per barrel, analysts warn. Of more than 700 people arrested in the course of the last six months in Saudi Arabia, dozens had been part of cells charged with preparing attacks against oil sites, according to authorities in Riyadh.

I have to throw my hat in saying that Serenity IS the best sci-fi movie made.
If anything, the comparison should be made to Star Wars, because, c'mon, those fans are kooky, just like Ron Paul's. (And I say that as someone who leans libertarian.)

Ummm, let's see, good writing, character development, a depth of backstory, actors who can...you know...act, a witty sense of humor, action, stylized violence, a libertarian sensibility wrapped in an old west meets outer space theme.
Yeah, we're weird considering most of what's out there.

Hmm, I've been a hardcore SF fan (don't only poseurs call it "SciFi"?) for the last 35 years and while I have a strong sense of what the "best" SF films have been, I can't say that Serenity even makes it onto the list. But then, I don't get the Ron Paul thing either being a Newt guy myself.
Not to start a flame war but my choices would be:
1. Star Wars: TESB
2. Alien
3. The Matrix
4. Back to the Future
5. 12 Monkeys
6. Star Trek: TWOK
7. 2001: ASO
8. Terminator II
9. Star Wars: ANH
10: Blade Runner
Honorable Mention: Brazil
Guilty Pleasures (not amazing but still on my list of enjoyable SF films):
Minority Report
Total Recall
Vanilla Sky
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (made an early impression)
Planet of the Apes (the original)
Stargate

Well, aside from...
Stargate SG-1
Star Trek: TOS
Battlestar Galactica (the current show)
LOST (although this is a genre busting show, I consider it SF)
Star Trek: TNG (the last 4 seasons)
The Wild Wild West
HHGTTG (the BBC Series)
Dr. Who
X-Files
Babylon 5
Twilight Zone
ST: Voyager

Firefly was the best sci-fi series TV has aired, IMO, though that's not saying too much, but Serenity certainly doesn't top the list of best sci-fi movies. I'd put Blade Runner first, personally, probably followed by 2001 and then Alien.

Short of Babylon 5, Firefly easily was one of the best science fiction television series of all time... It is only its remarkably and unfortunately short length (damn Fox... damn them to hell!) that prevented it from receiving the wider recognition and acclaimation it deserved.
That said, Serenity is easily the best science fiction movie out there.
