A little while ago, I mentioned that I've grown rather fond of a local talk station -- and a frequent caller to the morning show. It's gotten to the point where I'm almost a regular.
Well, that's about to change.
A little while ago, the station's program director told the hosts that the next time I called, try to get some contact info. I first thought it was for a restraining order, but I was wrong.
It turns out that they are interested in me trying out as a part of the show -- and, if it goes well and we are both interested, possibly a permanent part-time gig.
In a couple of weeks, one of the hosts will be going on vacation for a week -- and I am tentatively planning to fill in for him for up to three days.
I'll be taking calls, trying to line up some local guests (which could be awkward, as I just moved here seven months ago), and in general having all kinds of fun while NOT touching any controls.
And yes, they do stream on the internet, so far more people than just those living here in the Upper Valley region will run the risk of being exposed to my voice.
Oddly enough, when I mentioned this to Kevin, he told me that Captain Ed Morrissey of Captain's Quarters and BlogTalk Radio had approached him about a Wizbang Radio show. Kevin had been decidedly noncommittal, but it sounded interesting to me. I had a nice chat with the good captain last week, swapped a few e-mails with my colleagues here, and it's starting to look like we just might do this.
The way BlogTalk Radio works, as I understood Ed (and that is not a sure thing -- he explained it quite well, but I am notoriously bad at remembering this sort of thing), is that the host sets an hour aside for the show, and calls in to a specific phone number -- as well as their guests. Listeners have their own number they can call in to participate.
It's basically talk radio, minus the radio and the commercials.
Currently, I'm thinking of doing it weekly, on either Sunday or Monday, or some other night during the evening. (Gotta work around the Day Job.) Other members of the Wizbang family will be offering contributions, and some might end up hosting entire shows.
A long time ago, I described myself as having "the perfect face for radio, and the perfect voice for print." Looks like that's gonna be put to the test.

The audio engineering wizards at any radio station can make anyone's voice sound OK. On the other hand, they can't make them sound reasonable, hence Air America's woes.

Welcome to Blog Talk Radio....
I've been hosting a show four nights a week at 9 p.m. EDT (Mon thru Thur) and I'm enjoying it more and more. (This in addition to hosting my Sunday night program at WDBO AM 580 in Orlando).
It's very different from doing regular commercial radio in a studio. More intimate and less hassle.
Good luck! When you get comfortable with it, come see me. I'd love to have you on as a guest to help you promote your show.
