And that's not the only change to Britain's history curriculum. Betsy Newmark, a history teacher herself, has all details:
Secondary schools will strip back the traditional curriculum in favour of lessons on debt management, the environment and healthy eating, ministers revealed.Even Winston Churchill no longer merits a mention after a drastic slimming-down of the syllabus to create more space for "modern" issues.
Along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King, the former prime minister has been dropped from a list of key figures to be mentioned in history teaching.
This means pupils may no longer hear about his stirring speeches during the Second World War, when he told Parliament that defeating Hitler would be Britain's "finest hour".
The only individuals now named in guidance accompanying the curriculum are anti-slavery campaigners Olaudah Equiano and William Wilberforce.
The omission of Churchill added to a growing row over Labour reforms to secondary education - the most radical since the national curriculum was introduced in 1988.
How can you even imagine teaching British history to British students and strip Churchill from the curriculum? Is the goal of these educators to destroy any pride at all that children might develop in their country's history? I can see how teaching about Olaudah Equiano and William Wilberforce's fight against slavery can fit in with the "teach only the warts" approach to history teaching, but you would think that such an plan would want to include Gandhi also. And how do you teach World War II and not have Hitler in the curriculum. Is the whole curriculum going to be taught in the passive voice: wars were started; battles were fought; and wars were ended. Let's just not mention any individuals who might have been key in those events.
Allowing British students to be completely ignorant of the people who almost destroyed their country and those who saved it from destruction is a very bad idea.

That is fricken gay! I'm calling "Hate-Crime" on this one. This is nothing more than indoctrination plus a pass to lie by omission. Who does this kind of crap? Losers , liars and Liberals. We can now add Labour to that list.
Wonder if Tony Blair approves of this?

Indeed...and watch for it coming to a theatre near you!
Just watch how quickly this will catch on in domestic public education. But watch closely...the trojan horse used by the left here will be cleverly disguisd. Higher education radicals in our universities have been working on this for years. On your tax dollars, BTW.

This has to be an online hoax, or some kind of twisted joke. Years ago I read through "Bartlett's Familiar Quotations" and the person who had the greatest number of quotes in the book was Winston Churchill.

I home school my children, and a few years ago we bought a text book that had Columbus discover the Americas in 1500.
It is not just in England that we are dumbing down the children. I spend a lot of time checking the books we use, and no source is 100%.(Christian or secular)
My advice to all is to consider home schooling and using books from the 40's and 50's for history of these times. I have many books of history that are factual and not PC.

From the article, though unsurprisingly not excerpted by Newmark:
However Schools Minister Lord Adonis said that even if Churchill was no longer named in the curriculum, his contribution to British life would still be covered.
"Nobody with any sense could believe that we could teach the Second World War - a statutory requirement - without covering Winston Churchill and Hitler," he added.
I guess the folks on this thread have no sense, Adonis.

Sure, mantis - and we could "cover" FDR and Hitler in the context of WWII as well, without making either part of the curriculum.
The point, of course, is that they are REMOVING Churchill from the curriculum.
To appreciate the gravity of that decision, you might consider what remains ON the list.

"Contribution to British life". WTH does that mean? And if he's not named, how will he be referred to? As "some guy"?
All kidding aside this one was interesting:

That's a copout. While WWII "will be covered" I bet you dollar to donuts that the rolls of individuals... ie Churchill, FDR, Hitler, Eisenhower, Montgomery, et al ... will be diminished into mere ciphers. It is a way to "numb" the kiddies into looking at WWII as a mere statistic (insert apropos Stalin quote here).
It's called "controlling the narrative". When teachers can disengage their students from a subject, in this case getting British students not to be invested in British heritage, the over-whelmingly "progressive" teachers can continue to denigrate the values of national pride and patriotism.
