A guy bought his dream car: a gray Hummer. It wouldn't fit in his garage, so he parked it on the street. Guess what a couple environmentalists did to it.
It lasted five days on the street before two masked men took a bat to every window, a knife to each 38-inch tire and scratched into the body: "FOR THE ENVIRON.""The thought of somebody vandalizing it never crossed my mind," said Gareth Groves, 32, who lives with his mother in a three-story home in the 4300 block of Brandywine Street NW in American University Park. "I've kind of been in shock."
Now, as Groves ponders what to do with the remains of his $38,000 SUV, he has been the target of a number of people who have driven by the crime scene in his upscale neighborhood and glared at him in smug satisfaction.
"I'd say one in five people who come by have that 'you-got-what-you-deserve' look," said his friend Andy Sexton, 27, who is visiting from Arkansas and has been helping Groves deal with fallout from the crime.
The environmental movement is nothing more than the new collective. You are required to go along with their dogma, and if you don't you will pay the price. The scientists who don't buy into the false hype of global warming have found this out as well.
Update: John Hawkins documents the reactions from commenters at the Democratic Underground. If you are at all familiar with the irrational rantings of many at the DU, you won't be surprised by what you read.

Too bad people don't voice their opinions like this lady (from the linked article in the post):
Another neighbor, Lani Fremaux, 58, said she bought a T-shirt months ago with a picture of a Hummer and above it the word "Bummer." She wore the shirt proudly but said she is so upset with recent events on her street that she might retire it.
"They've got everything at their disposal in this city to make a statement in a legal way," Fremaux said of the bat-wielding men who struck out at the Hummer. "I consider this a hate crime."

Everyone should have the right to drive whatever they want without some screwball passing judgement. A good friend of mine who is a Vancouver surgeon drives a new Hummer because he often has to commute a fairly long distance each day, sometimes in adverse weather.
But, I sold my 9mpg high performance V8 car and bought a Chinese made motor scooter recently, the Coolster F5, which is rated at 117.6 mpg by the manufacturer. (It cost me far less than a $800 wholesale price, although retails for $1,795, and I had to assemble it myself, as it came on a wood pallet. But I save plenty of money over those that pay $20k for a new car that only gets about 30mpg. My last two fillups were just a mere $2.30 and $2.60 while car and truck drivers are pouring $20 in their vehicles for a fillup). It has plenty of power to keep up with 30-35mph congested city traffic and is a great little grocery getter that I drive everywhere in town. For Freeway use I have a 16 mpg Oldsmobile. On rainy or really cold days, I can use the big Oldsmobile as well.
Some folks need a big and heavy SUV for various reasons like hauling lumber. But for me, hauling around a big 3,000 to 5,000lb. vehicle for just myself as a driver and paying $20 to fill up the tank makes no sense at all, when a perfectly good, fun to drive 200lb, 71inch long motor scooter can do everything a car or truck can do for a lot less money.
America is build around a culture of big cars, while in Asia and Europe, many persons long ago found out that motor bikes and scooters make a lot of sense. But if you have the necessary motorcycling skills as well as no fear to travel in congested city traffic at 30-35mph along the side of oversized vehicles, then motor scooters are a cool alternative to the car.
America's apppetite for big cars and trucks has made the Mideast important in foreign policy and is also a main reason that we are losing the lives of many young men and women in Iraq and involved with Muslim terrorists because of our big national appetite for oil. Everyone needs to really think about this factor and accept some responsibility to reduce their own use of oil so that American lives could be spared and Mideast oil becomes less important for the U.S. Even the president encourages this reduction of consumption. The market for whale oil was once big and disappeared with technology. My hope is that the market for oil can be reduced as well with the advent of new technology and changes in American tastes away from driving huge vehicle when smaller ones will do the job just fine and save the drive big amounts of money.
One 117mpg motor scooter gets about 4 times the mileage of a Toyota or Honda automobile, and about three times the mileage of their hybrid versions in city traffic use. Yet cost less than $800 wholesale. Think about that.

Tom, a motor scooter doesn't sound right for your vehicle needs at all. You definately need a car or truck for use with a growing family. Scooters are best for working people, students and single persons.
More and more young women are also becoming fans of scooters where there were only 25,000 scooters sold in the U.S. in 1999 compared to nearly 90,000 a year now as gas prices hit about $76 a barrel on the world commodity markets and more Americans warm up to this mainly Asian and European form of transportation that's both fun and very economical.
