The Undersecretary of Defense tells it like it is and points out in a letter that Hillary Clinton reinforces enemy propaganda when she insists we need to prepare to surrender to the terrorists in Iraq:
The Pentagon told Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton that her questions about how the U.S. plans to eventually withdraw from Iraq boosts enemy propaganda. In a stinging rebuke to a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Undersecretary of Defense Eric Edelman responded to questions Clinton raised in May in which she urged the Pentagon to start planning now for the withdrawal of American forces.
A copy of Edelman's response, dated July 16, was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.
"Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia," Edelman wrote.
He added that "such talk understandably unnerves the very same Iraqi allies we are asking to assume enormous personal risks."
Well, Hillary didn't like that too much, so she stamped her little feet and said she was going to tell on Undersecretary Edelman to his boss:
Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines called Edelman's answer "at once outrageous and dangerous," and said the senator would respond to his boss, Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Let me help you with that number, Senator. It's 1-703- waa waa waa- waa waa waa waa.

I can't even begin to fathom what you mean by "normal government channels" and what leads you to conclude Hillary Clinton used "abnormal" government channels. The woman directed a request for information to the Pentagon about what the Pentagon's plans for withdrawal are. How was she supposed to have asked that? By Morse code or passenger pigeon? By meeting the Pentagon generals in an underground bunker? I mean, WTF?
I don't know what you mean by "public accusations" either. What "public accusations"? She asked for the Pentagon's plan for withdrawal. That's an accusation? How?
And btw, Hillary Clinton has every right to make accusations as long as she can support them with facts. There is no law yet against a member of Congress confronting military leaders and asking for answers on a taxpayer-funded foreign policy.
I have no idea how you imagine demanding answers to why our military is still in Iraq, what we are doing there, and how the hell Bush plans to get us out, and when, is going to help terrorists any more than they already have been helped by going into Iraq in the first place screwing up everything we could possibly screw up over the past four years, and refusing to leave or even make plans for leaving when it's obvious that our presence in the middle of a civil war and against the will of the Iraqi people is only strengthening both the sectarian violence and the Iraqi insurgency.
Kathy is an example of how the modern liberals have lost the concept of honor (putting national interest above personal political interest) and national security.
This country's national interest is not being served by remaining in Iraq. The fact is that invading and occupying Iraq for the past four years and counting has harmed our national interest more severely, more profoundly, and quite possibly more irreparably than Al Qaeda could ever have dreamed of doing. I would like to know where you get the nerve to lecture me about the national interest when you continue to support a policy that is destroying this country and putting us in unimaginable danger. You are not the arbiter or the decider of what policies are in the national interest. Your authority and expertise to make that judgment is the same as every other American's, neither less nor more.
