These groups are trying to pressure advertisers on Fox News to abandon the news channel. Considering that Fox is the highest rated cable news channel, they'd be really foolish to do so. From the AP:
Liberal activists are stepping up their campaign against Fox News Channel by pressuring advertisers not to patronize the network.MoveOn.org, the Campaign for America's Future and liberal blogs like DailyKos.com are asking thousands of supporters to monitor who is advertising on the network. Once a database is gathered, an organized phone-calling campaign will begin, said Jim Gilliam, vice president of media strategy for Brave New Films, a company that has made anti-Fox videos.
The groups have successfully pressured Democratic presidential candidates not to appear at any debate sponsored by Fox, and are also trying to get Home Depot Inc. to stop advertising there.
At least 5,000 people nationwide have signed up to compile logs on who is running commercials on Fox, Gilliam said. The groups want to first concentrate on businesses running local ads, as opposed to national commercials.
"It's a lot more effective for Sam's Diner to get calls from 10 people in his town than going to the consumer complaint department of some pharmaceutical company," Gilliam said.
Some of videos produced by Gilliam's company compile statements made by Fox anchors and guests that the activists consider misleading, such as those that question global warming.
Representatives for Fox News Channel, which is owned by News Corp., did not immediately return calls for comment.
Home Depot has not had an unusual number of calls, said spokesman Jerry Shields, and the home improvement chain will not change its advertising strategy.
"We're not in the business of censoring media," Shields said. "We need to reach our customer base through all mediums available."
And they'll reach far more customers on Fox News than they will on CNN or MSNBC.

The answer is really simple. People who watch Fox News just need to boycott any business that pulls it's ads.
Knowing the Democrats won't show their faces on Fox News is great. Fox can publicly invite them and hold many debates in the run up to the general election. If the Democrat's candidate doesn't show up the Republican's candidate can spend an hour or so answering softball questions. The key is that the Democrat has to be publicly invited; even challenged.

First of all Mac, FOX is the one network that I have not seen anchors throwing softballs on a regular basis. The funny thing in this matter is that "liberals", "progressives", or what ever the title of the day is, all comes down to the fact that they are nothing but leftist socialists. 3. Posted by Lee Ward | July 27, 2007 3:16 PM
Les then said: "What do you think of this boycott, Lee?"
I don't think individuals should be pressured just because they express an opinion or exercise their right to free speech - and that position is obviously something with which Lorie Byrd and the right wing bloggers here on Wizbang disagree.
I've even gone so far as to say the left should not boycott Ann Coulters' books, speeches, etc. People are entitled to express their opinion in this country, and economic boycotts against individuals in an effort to suppress free speech is something I'm against. Coulter is free to say and write her opinion, and Americans should be free to read her books.
However, as I said regarding Coulter, it's perfectly okay in my book to boycott and pressure the corporations who profit from hate speech, etc. Corporations are not citizens and don't have free speech rights.
So I think a boycott of Fox News advertisers is fine, and I think a boycott of Daily Kos advertisers is fine too. I think boycotts of the Ditzy Chicks and Ann Coulter, etc are not okay.
btw - read this comment quickly - because Jay has been deleting every comment I make on Wizbang since about two weeks ago - and unless he's busy fondling his duck he'll delete this one too.

As usual, the liberal tactic boils down to nothing more than, "If you disagree with me, you must be silenced." That way, when no one speaks out against the latest drivel the liberals have to say, they are obviously right! Proof-by-lack-of-opposition, or something. Of course, if majority ruled science, we would still be living on a flat planet in a geocentric solar system...
The amusing thing is that it took the little liberals this long to realize they could try and use economic leverage to try and accomplish their pathetically nefarious plans - I guess that kind of thought would not naturally occur to a born-and-bred socialist. The only unfortunate thing is that DailyKos alone has thousands upon thousands of hate-filled, vitriolic-spewing, mindless automatons more than willing to follow just about anyone's bidding, so long as it involves trashing Bush, Fox News, conservatives, or anyone who disagrees with them. Of course, if their letters to the companies are as coherent as their posts to their all-important webpage, I doubt anyone will pay them the slightest bit of heed.
Mr. Shields is exactly on the mark - any company will advertise where they believe they will get the greatest exposure for their money. And considering that FoxNews is one of the most popular channels out there (if not the most, but I will not delve into statistics), they would have to lose more than a few screws to withdraw their advertisements on the irrational and disjointed complaining of a few malcontents.
I guess the worst thing is just how many people in this country define themselves solely by their hate of other people, specifically those who would dare disagree with them. What a sad, pathetic existence...

The other one that FOX has recently been smitten with -- to their detriment -- is Harvey Levin as to his TMZ site. It's such trash, such swamp water, I can't understand why he (nor Geraldo) are on FOX.
But I wish FOX would stop it with this courting of Liberals.
