Hamas launches Navy in escalation (Wizbang)

Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is upsetting the balance of power in the region by setting up a Naval force, report James Hider in Jerusalem, and Azmi Keshawi in Gaza City for The Times:

It may not have any ships, sailors or seafaring equipment, but those logistical details have not prevented Hamas, the Islamist movement that rules the Gaza Strip, from launching a naval defence force.

"The requirements to join are that you have to be a good soldier, be fit, and know how to swim," said the coastal patrol's only confirmed member and commander, Jamil al-Dahashan, a veteran of the armed wing of Hamas.

Yes, I can see how knowing how to swim would be required, especially since they have no freakin' boats. But it gets even better:

The new force is expected to take to the waves -- or at least the beaches -- in a couple of weeks, where it will battle against prostitution and drug abuse. Eventually, when it has a boat, the navy will venture out to sea, where one of its main tasks will be to intercept Gazan fishermen who moonlight as informants for the Israelis.

The rest of the story is at the link above, if you can stand it. I love this part! Their Navy is going to "battle against prostitution and drug abuse" . . . ours generally has other priorities. But iff'n they ever gits 'em a boat, they will go out to sea! Really! . . .

. . . to arrest the fishermen who are out there informing for the Jooos! (Who, as we all know, get most of their good intel from poor bastards out in fishing boats trying to earn a living).

You just can't make this stuff up.

Do they have any idea how much it costs to have a Navy? Even the most basic of coastal defense forces? It's more than having an army.

This should be fun to watch.

Good point marc. I'm just sure there is a some non-grinded to a halt status at some point. Otherwise they'd have ceased to exist, which no matter how bad they've bungled things, they've continued to exist at some level.

Whatever it is, it's not progress they're making over there.

I know (non-white)ethnic jokes aren't allowed anymore, but some enterprising publisher with a deathwish has got to come out with a collection of, "If you (insert sick, hate filled activity here),you might be a member of Hamas" jokes sometime soon. For now, I just repeat the Polack jokes of my youth, replacing the sympathetic Pol with our masked friends in the culture of death. ex: An al qeda, a taliban and a Hamas jump off a bridge at the same time. Which one will detonate first ? I don't care, but if they all land on Ibrahim Hooper, that's okay by me.
