Well Etain & SPQR, how jingoistic do you think the 3701 American troops and their families feel while you two thump your chests in the comfort of your homes as you serenade war?

FreedomFries, given the time I spend in support of the troops at the neighboring base, the time I've spent advising veterans in the local college system, and the time I've spent aiding my neighbors' families while they were deployed, I know that they react better to me than to bile filled haters like yourself.

By the way, FreedomFries, my next door neighbor returned from Iraq in 2005 after his second tour. He flies a US flag from his porch every day regardless of weather. His flag gets regularly stolen by little bile filled insects, we caught one recently doing so who reminds me a lot of you. Said he opposed "jingoism" in that exact phrasing.

I think that it seems... alien... to some people that there are those who see nobility in service.

Not only do I know the definition of jingoism, I can recite the British beer hall song that it is derivative from, and tell you which war era it came from. You have these false beliefs of the inferiority of your political opponents to justify only your own feelings. That kind of substitution of emotional feelings for any coherent political thought only shows your limits - no one elses. You are the vilest of trolls.

Evan Sayet famously (to people who don't depend on the MSM) said that those on the left had two beliefs that guided their sometimes bizarre viewpoints; nothing is worth fighting against, and nothing is worth fighting for. To that I would add a third: the act of fighting turns you into a monster.

You can see this view on display in the Beauchamp hoax and I think it comes across here. A proud, dignified and noble marine rapping about why he fights is anethema to people like freedom fries. It simply can't exist in their universe, so the cognitive dissonance leads him to call it 'jingoism.'

There's no possible way for people like him to accept SSGT Dean's beautiful and stirring poem for what it is.

Patriotism is just SO tacky, isn't it? Especially coming from a Marine, who's already subjugated by The Man - and a Black Marine, who should feel doubly subjugated. Obviously he's an ignorant fool, barely one step above the grinning black minstrels who used to perform for their masters. And he feels patriotic, to boot! How smart could he possibly be? Doesn't he know the history of the United States? Doesn't he know the bad things that were done to men of his race?

You know something? I think he does. I think he's pretty well read on history, and you don't get to be a SSgt in the Marine Corps without a good bit of intelligence under your belt. I think he's capable of looking at the past and going "Yeah - there's been plenty of mistakes along the way. And there's been shit that nobody should be proud of - but there's one thing that we should be proud of, and that's that we're always, ALWAYS trying to be better. We don't enshrine our mistakes forever, and worship them as if they're commandments from God. And it may take time to correct them - but correct them we do."

And he sees something you don't, for all your intelligence and snarkly phrasing.

He sees us all as Americans. And thinks we're good enough to stand with him.

BTW, there's a comment posted elsewhere that I think just SO typifies the smallness of mind that can't ever accept that character and what a man does is more important than his skin color.

this nigga is the biggest uncle tom I have ever seen. He is clearly brain damaged if he thinks this country will ever accept him. Amerikkka will alwys hate the black man, no matter how much blood he spills in foreign wars. I hate a nigga like him, he makes all the real brothers look like a bunch of spineless jellyfish. When I envision 'jamal al rashid' I think of a barely employable thug, who believes acting tough with a sideways cap and falling-down-pants shows just how 'real' he is. What can I say? That's how he presents himself, and on the internet how you present yourself is how you are - he could be a 55 year old accountant in Cleveland for all I know.

hmm i hate to see people like freedon fries and jamal al rashid post comments like this about such a great marine. i say this because SSGT Dean is a Instructor in my Command. he does not boast from his fame that us students just found out about this week. SSGT Dean holds the principles and leadership traits that any serviceman can respect. Honor, Courage, Commitment that is what we ive by and it is something i hoped more people would learn to respect. Thank you for that update from 1712 "jamal al rashid", I think that I can safely assume that I speak for myself when I say that I've met you. I was the guy who's arm was in your mouth right after you screamed and called me a "devil". Actually, what had happened was, I was trying to ram my fist down your throat (here's where the funny part comes in) and you decided to take a rather large bite out of it. Well, needless to say, those bites resulted in my struggle with the decision to enter a clinic for the treatment of rabies....I can see now that it was a huge mistake not to get those shots as you have clearly lost your mind.

Just a side note for anyone who didn't see the Glen Ford classic, "Rage", if you ever see jamal al rashid in a darkened allie (no racial slur intended), just bang some pots and pans and he'll be gone in a flash (apparently the hearing sensitivity gets tuned way up when you have gone mad) or tie him up and poor water in front of him, that's always good for a few, "howlin' at the moon", laughs.

I've known SSgt Lawrence Dean for well over 8 years and we actually came up in the Marine Corps together. When I first met him his reputation had preceded him but he was always humble. Through the years Life (as he's called) has been a specialist at conveying the sentiment of those that have no voice. He helps people (no matter what their race) to aspire to their highest level of excellence and at the same time consistently challenges himself. To Mr. Rashid and Mr. Fries it appears to me its not my friend SSgt Dean that you have a problem with, but rather the American society in which we all live and many willing die for. Mr Rashid I'm Black, former active duty Marine, happily married father of four AND the owner of a thriving business in the South!! I don't really understand how you determine what a "Real Brother" is. SSgt Dean is a leader, a father and friend to many as well as a brother to roughly about 178,000 men and women who call themselves Marine (active duty). How does that not make him a "Real Brother"? When he spoke those words so eloquently, that was over 13 years of love of country and Corps that we as Marines all feel no matter our color. Our coiuntry is frought with images of hatred and bigotry on both sides of the fence. If you feel that Life will be exploited then by all means, sound the alarm. But please refrain from calling my friend "Uncle Tom" whom you don't even know. Mr Fries to me it appears that you are either Leftist, Communist or Liberal; choose your label and wear it proudly.
