The woman who took "sanctuary" in a Chicago Methodist Church to avoid deportation has been arrested in LA, reports CBS2.com:
An illegal immigrant who stayed in a Chicago church for a year to avoid separation from her 8-year-old son, a U.S. citizen, was arrested Sunday and being processed for deportation.Elvira Arellano, who arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday after leaving her sanctuary to campaign for immigration reform, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. outside Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she had been speaking to reporters, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist, the Chicago church.
Arellano was "being processed for removal to Mexico based upon a deportation order originally issued by a federal immigration judge in 1997," U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.
Read the whole story at the above link. Sorry, lady, that ain't "immigration reform" you are speaking of. While a comprehensive reform might contemplate circumstances under which someone who entered the country illegally might receive a kind of legal status, you came here illegally twice, and committed at least one crime while here. Then you defied a lawful court order to hide in a church.
Such behavior is, in fact, one of the biggest enemies of any comprehensive reform. And while I respect the attitude of churches who might offer "sanctuary" to someone who might be persecuted unjustly, there is absolutely no indication of any such reason for this church to shelter you. You came here illegally, and don't wish to go back. Join the club, lady.

Agreed the church is only obligated to give food to the hungry and shelter in emergencies. To politicize the church is far out of bounds.
The description of the church, "storefront," tells you all you need to know.
The Paster has had a year of publicity and I give even odds his "flock" has expanded because of it.

If she didn't want to be separated from her son the solution was simple...go back to Mexico and take the kid with her.

I thought the U.S. went to extraordinary lengths to accomodate Elvira Arellano. The government, contrary to what Elvira's advocates pushers will undoubtedly say in the coming days and weeks, has been extraordinarily patient with this woman and her son. Unlike Clinton's move on Elian Gonzalez, there were no S.W.A.T. tactics and automatic weapons drawn. The U.S. allowed Arellano to attend the rally she had publically vowed to attend, and then arrested her. Not before.
In the main, her "sanctuary" tactic backfired: holing up in the church this past year, she ended up hurting her efforts to 'piggyback' on to her son's citizenship. Saul is staying with the Rev. Coleman's family, his de facto family since he's been living with them for more than a year.

She is ready to continue the struggle against the separation of families from the other side of the border.
She should just take her anchor babies and go home. No more struggle, no more separation, no more problem.
This separation BS is a choice on the illegal alien coming here unlawfully and dropping babies. Babies born on US soil to criminals should not be instant citizens.

Crap. This ain't 14th-century France, and sanctuary is a null legal concept in the US. The Vatican may be a country, but churches aren't embassies. Shoulda dug her out of that Chicago church a year ago and tossed her. With the kid, who is welcome to come back when he reaches 18..
