For the last 15 years, California authorities have been trying to figure out what happened to a businessman named Norman Hsu, who pleaded no contest to grand theft, agreed to serve up to three years in prison and then seemed to vanish."He is a fugitive," Ronald Smetana, who handled the case for the state attorney general, said in an interview. "Do you know where he is?"
Hsu, it seems, has been hiding in plain sight, at least for the last three years.
Since 2004, one Norman Hsu has been carving out a prominent place of honor among Democratic fundraisers. He has funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions into party coffers, much of it earmarked for presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.
In addition to making his own contributions, Hsu has honed the practice of assembling packets of checks from contributors who bear little resemblance to the usual Democratic deep pockets: A self-described apparel executive with a variety of business interests, Hsu has focused on delivering hefty contributions from citizens who live modest lives and are neophytes in the world of campaign giving.
Hat tip: Bryan at Hot Air.
Why can't the Clintons do anything without it looking so damn shady? Everything about them smells like deceit. A commenter at Hot Air notes this story that got absolutely no attention:
Hillary Clinton's former finance director, David Rosen, was indicted on January 7, 2005 on campaign finance charges related to a fund-raising event produced by Peter F. Paul. Paul, a former felon who was convicted on stock fraud charges after being extradited from Brazil, stated that he spent $1.2 million to produce the August 12, 2000 Hollywood Gala Salute to President William Jefferson Clinton event, which was both a tribute to honor President Clinton and a fundraiser for the First Lady's 2000 Senate campaign. The Justice Department indictment charged Rosen with filing false reports with the Federal Election Commission by reporting only $400,000 in contributions. On May 27, 2005, the jury acquitted Rosen on all counts.[27] On January 5, 2006 it was reported that Clinton's campaign group agreed to pay a $35,000 fine related to the underreporting of the fundraiser's expenses. [28]Peter Paul has also filed a civil suit in this matter.[29] On April 10, 2006, the judge in charge of the case removed Hillary Clinton as a defendant, citing a lack of evidence. However, she may still be called to testify as a witness in the case. [30]
Let's take a stroll down memory lane. Remember the names John Huang, Yah Lin "Charlie" Trie, Johnny Chung, and Maria Hsia? Take a look at these archived stories from the Washington Post about the Clinton's 1996 reelection fundraising scandal. In article after article, we read of all the illegal donations that these four funneled into the Clinton-Gore reelection coffers and the indictments and guilty pleas that followed.
Here we are, eleven years later. Hillary Clinton hasn't even won the Democratic nomination, but already the stench of Clinton fundraising sleaze is wafting heavily from her direction.
Paul wonders aloud: Was Hillary tipped these stories were coming? About 3-4 days ago Hillary started beating the drum that she was used to fighting the "GOP attack machine." Doth she protest too much? If I were a Democrat about now, I'd be questioning the timing.
Paul Adds: Suspicion confirmed.
"I have been blessed by what this country has given me and have tried to give back in many ways," Mr. Hsu said in an email to a Wall Street Journal reporter earlier this week.
I knew I smelled a Clintonian set-up.

Hey, don't forget the truly deep pockets in the Clinton scandals: James and Mocktar Riady, and the Lippo banking group. Riady owns the largest deposit of super-clean, sulpher-free coal in the world. Well, one of the largest. Another is in south Utah, which was going to be developed before Billy signed the area over to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, thus preventing any mining, and keeping Mookie's coal at a premium. Of course the photo op for the signing was held in Arizona, since bill was none to popular in Utah after yanking a huge economic project out from under the state.

That's a good try and almost effective... but you miss.
Random stories that anyone can sniff as bullshit that are based on those infamous "anonamoose sources" are indeed usually bogus.
Stories based largely on FEC campaign records and public disclosure records are always going to be more believable.
We're not talking about bogus leaks form "a top administration official" and we're not talking fake documents... we're talking about things that you can find in google.
But nice try.

I do so enjoy how "FreedomFries" first assaults people for providing potential conspiracy theories (I cannot say I am too fond of them either, but that is neither here nor there.), and then goes about trying to destroy the credibility of the source (not difficult, granted, but it is not a lone, unsupported source), but nowhere attempts to address the issue at hand.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is what a person does when he or she realizes the cause is lost / has nothing useful to provide to the conversation / has no defense. I do not think you could find a more classic example.
As for the aforementioned situation-at-hand, is it any great wonder that the Clintons are incapable of doing anything cleanly and above-board? They are so very much in the habit of going around, under, or over the basic rules and tenets of our society, doing something by-the-books, legally, and straightforwardly (word?) would take conscious, and likely painful, effort. If Mr. Hsu is guilty of the charges levied against him (and apparently he is, since he plead no contest and was sentenced), he should be found (should not be hard, given campaign donation records), apprehended, and imprisoned (ideally, longer than the original three years at this point). Additionally, those funds he donated to the DNC should be carefully scrutinized, and if any were the product of his grand theft, or any crime since, they should be dealt with accordingly.
Fortunately or not, given the Clinton's pattern of misconduct in the past, there really is no good way to look at this situation.

There's a very good reason why we see so many Chinese names on the list of Clinton's largest donees. They have every reason to believe that they'll get special treatment from the Clintons. They'll be given high-security clearance positions and will be appointed to high levels in the Justice Department and the Commerce Department. They have in the past and we have no reason to believe things will be any different with the Clintons in the White House again, especially considering all the large sums of money being donated again to a Clinton campaign by Chinese individuals.
During Clinton's second term (which I recently heard humorously referred to as the "johnson" years) it seemed to be "all China - all the time". Hardly a week went by that there weren't charges of espionage, money laundering, campaign finance abuses and a plethora of other shady, and otherwise outright illegal, activities involving the Chinese. Almost 30 people directly related to campaign finance activities alone had been convicted by 2001, the majority were Chinese.

The thing ya gotta love about the Clintons is, being the sh*t caked stick against which everyone else is measured, they always eliminate the need to check out peoples' integrity, honesty, lack of scruples, etc.
Yes, when the Clintons are involved you can always count on it being about substantive things like, "No personal attack ever fed a hungry child", or, "I aint no ways tarred!", or, "I did NOT have sex with that woman....(Don't worry Monica, I never have sex with her anymore, honest.)", and on and on. Ya see, Mrs. Bill Clinton is the toughest, the smartest and the most experienced woman that was fooled by every man she ever met from her own husband to George "The Idiot" Bush, or who needed to be protected from the horrible, "space invader", Rick Lazio.
Amazing isn't it ? ALL who support the war have to answer why they are "going against the American people", and yet Mrs. Bill Clinton will NEVER have to answer a single question about Billy Dale, her fli-flop on Iraq, "Whitewater", the mysterious Mr. Hsu or anything else approaching a substantive issue. No, there isn't a lib slant to the media, there's only predjudiced Americans who want commie libs to answer for their lies and treason. What a bunch of fools we must be.
