"The affair started about 18 months ago," a friend says the woman confessed to her. "When they met at a bar, sparks flew immediately.
Now in what appeared to be an unrelated piece at Huffington Post Sam Stein has been investigating the mysterious disappearance of a series of webisodes which has Edwards supporters in particular absolutely loosing their shit... FishbowlLA points to the one remaining webisode which is every bit as dull as one would expect...
That lead to an interesting discovery in an old Newsweek on the webisodes.
The Webisodes are the brainchild of Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker who met Edwards at a New York bar where Edwards was having a business meeting. "I didn't think it was John Edwards," Hunter recalls, "because the public persona did not mesh at all with the person who was sitting in front of me." Hunter pitched Edwards on the documentaries as a medium for bringing the "real John Edwards" to the people.
The previously unknown Hunter (who previously went by Lisa Druck) was paid over $100,000 by Edward's OneAmericaCommittee in 2006 (coincidentally matching the 18 month time frame of The National Enquirer story) to follow Edwards around the country. How convenient, no?
Now where there's smoke there's not necessarily fire, but anyone even remotely familiar with Edwards has to have wondered at some point about his pairing with wife Elizabeth. A looks mismatch like that usually involves a family fortune on the wife's side... Throw in cancer and kids and you've got a made for tabloid story just waiting to explode.
Mickey Kaus has more speculation on the potential fallout from the Breck Girl's Girl Affair.

Your tawdry gossip leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I dislike John Edwards, but his potential infidelity bears no relation to his policial views. If he had an affair, then that's his and Mrs. Edward's business, not your's, nor mine.
Your article has more insinuations than facts; your vitriolic speculations about John Edwards' motives for marrying Mrs. Edwards are repulsive.

I was just thinking how Hillary has tried and failed miserably to appeal to the Nutroots. Lately Obama has been trying with the lapel pin etc.
They can't take away the support from Edwards. I was actually thinking only a few days ago Edwards is about to be kneecapped. My timing was spot on, I must say.

In a related way, I heard the worst quote of the week a few days ago when flipping channels past the "JERRY SPRINGER SHOW" when a female audience member noted that, "Only in America can you see sheep onstage". Groan.
At least the late night comics like Leno, Letterman and Conan find all the weirdness in Washington a real gift. Bill Clinton became the gift that keeps on giving.

EdwardsHasAnAffair, certainly nothing is wrong with a healthy long-term loving gay relationship, but certainly it is unhealthy and morally suspect for a guy like Larry Craig to lurk around men's rooms looking for quick impersonal gratification, with no concerns about the health of the "quickie" partner, whether or not they have some disease, etc. Most gay relationships certainly don't involve quick sex in men's rooms, gloryholes or a guy standing with his feet in a shopping bag to hide the second set of feet in a stall. This is all bad public conduct as well as criminal. And quick impersonal gratification by prostitutes by heterosexual men is equally a bad practice as well and often ends up in robbery, arrest or other dangers for the "Johns".

It just seems like a cheap point. Do I think their marriage is the same way it was when they were first married? Hardly. And John Edwards seems to far to enamored of himself (esp. his "staring-into-his-very-own-compact" looks) to be in a monogamous relationship with his wife.

While an affair doesn't contradict his rather sleazy character, we should be careful with accusations until reasonable doubt is removed.
But when (or if) that happens, Republicans should not hesitate to play the Edwards=Newt card as often as possible. (Thanks, Jeff Blogworthy!)
