House Fails to Override SCHIP Veto

Common sense prevailed in the House as Republicans stuck together and supported Bush's SCHIP expansion veto, but not before lunatic Democratic Representative Peter Stark made the shockingly vile statement that America's troops are in Iraq getting their heads blown off "for the President's amusement":

Democratic Rep. Pete Stark launched a shocking one-man assault on the Bush administration Thursday, interrupting floor debate before a failed attempt to override the president's veto of the so-called SCHIP bill to suggest that U.S. troops in Iraq are getting their heads "blown off for the president's amusement."

The vote to override President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program bill failed, 273-156, 14 votes shy of the number necessary.

Action on failed measure screeched to a halt when Republicans asked that remarks by Stark be "taken down," or stricken from the record. The objection, however, came too late and was made on less inflammatory remarks, and were therefore ruled within the boundaries of House decorum.

But House rules prohibiting personal attacks on fellow lawmakers or the president didn't stop Stark from lambasting Bush for his veto, and repeating his charge that the president would rather use government revenues to send U.S. children to war than to pay for low-income kids' health care.

A longtime war critic, Stark said the president couldn't find $35 billion to expand SCHIP but at the same time had requested an extra $200 billion to pay for military operations in Iraq.

"Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old, enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement," Stark said.

"President Bush's statements about children's health shouldn't be taken any more seriously than his lies about the war in Iraq. The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up in Iraq, in the United States, and in Congress. I urge my colleagues to vote to override his veto," he continued.

Here's the video of lunatic Pete Stark making his statement:

Why haven't the men in white coats taken this man away yet?

Update: Lunatic Pete Stark thanks his equally lunatic supporters. Hat tip: Hot Air

Update II (from Lorie): Michelle Malkin has documented Stark's lunacy before -- he is not only foulmouthed, calling a fellow congressman a wimp and a fruitcake (and worse), but taunted one to fight him. If this guy were a Republican the calls for him to resign would be deafening.

The white coats are coming for the Republicans and bloggers who think this was a victory today. The real victory will happen at the 2008 election when the Democrats hammer the GOP to another 10 seat or more gain in the house and 3-5 senate races.

You heard it here first. Lets see how happy you will be for the S-Chip victory on November 5th 2008.

Damn fiscally irresponsible Republicans would rather waste far, far more billions of dollars funding Bush's Pet Project in Iraq than on America's injured children. But they're outnumbered by at least 2 to 1, if not in the House, than in the Senate, and in the rest of the country. Republicans may be able to stop this until Bush is out of office, but Bush's departure is no longer that far away. Then SCHIP can be expanded by Congress, approved by the president, and the short-sighted Republicans lose once again.

They should have no problems next year.

We can suppose they will ask our President to come to their district and pose with him.
What can assure their re-election more than a pic with our popular President..

They stood tall against Communistic health care plans....

Look at any poll. It will demonstrate that voters fear Communism just below fear of another terrorist attack...

These brave Republicans will all be re-elected in a wave....and why wouldn't they?

You obviously don't know me well. I supply political news tips to Jim Addison at Wizbang Politics on a regular basis. Jim and I see eye to eye sometimes, sometimes not, but Jim and I respect each other. I'm no liberal, and Jim would be the first to tell you that. But I'm not hard right either. What I am is a realist and a dying breed of democrat, firmly conservative on defense, a little bit liberal on social and economic stuff. It all depends on what we're talking about.

What's at play here with S-Chip isn't 7 billion more dollars being spent on some piece of tahe project, but everyone drawing up sides on what party they support without thinking the consequences through. Aka Gotcha politics which isn't very productive when done by either party. Its all politics, on both sides, but the Republicans have more to lose here. What's the upside for the GOP? Tell me, some in between compromise will get passed but The Democrats will still hammer the GOP with this next year. I can see the ads already, kids needing healthcare. Its going to work and the Republicans are going to smart for it when all the Congressional races are counted up next year.

I would say the upside is doing the right thing. Which is keep the project to only helping those in need and are at or below the poverty level. That children are hose under 18. The GOP cannot allow scare tactic to define them. Lets be clear if they did sing this bad bill into law the Dem would find something else to vilify the GOP for. This way they stick to there base who vote for them. The base the folks who elect them to office ant them to support what we want. If they act like drunken politicians (Drunken sailor spend out own money) the base will not support them and they will loose more seats. They lost seats because their was nothing to differentiate them from tax and spend Democrats.

Kim,
Not only that Peter claimed that our troops are there in Iraq "to blow up innocent people ". These liberal democrats cannot even be honest about who they are. The dishonesty of liberal democrats are so brazen. I don't know why any honest and informed American would support such a party without shame and conscience. Just a summary of the "lies" of liberal dems in the last few weeks:

(1) Liberal left hates the troop. Peter just voiced it for them. The liberal dems just brazenly lie to smear Rush.

(2) The dems are either too clueless about "diplomacy" or "diplomacy" is simply a code word to undermine America. These people have no shame again when they talk incessantly about "diplomacy". Tried to condemn Turkisk genocide of Armenians at this point.

(3) Liberal left doesn't care about civil liberty. Otherwise, how could they support the snooper-in-chief, Hillary Clinton.

(4) They don't care about the poor and children. Otherwise, they would have allowed school vouchers for the poor inner black students. They simply lied about SCHIPP.

Our resident trolls know what kind of party they are supporting so they cannot do anything but "spin".

Bwahahahahahaha... have you seen the latest Zogby poll? The lowest of the low ever for Bush...24%.

And another poll showing 81% of Americans in favor of SCHIP, w 74% in favor even at the cost of higher taxes.

The Democrats will hang this around the scrawny necks of the Republicans next year in a way that will wipe this crap party off the face of the Earth.

Scrapiron:

Wrong on the poll Charlie. The majority of Americans do not want to provide free medical care to those irresponsible people making $83,000 per year who should not be parents since they ignore medical care for their children.
Will the childrens medical program pay for the birth control pills made available to eleven (11) year old girls in Me. without the parents knowledge or approval? I think the school board passed this rule so the teachers and administrators can have sex with even younger students without risk of them becoming Pg. Will they lower the age to 8 after they rape all of the 11 year olds? Now tell me that America in the hands of democrats, as several failed states are, isn't in danger of being destroyed.

When you define 'poor' as 4... (Below threshold)

When you define 'poor' as 400% of the poverty line, and 'child' as being under 25(!) I've got a real problem with supporting the modifications to the SCHIP program.

I mean seriously, what are the Dems trying to do here? This is a REAL bad case of mission creep. I've got no problems with supporting people who NEED it (and 400% above the poverty line? No. Try 150%, 200% max) and making this 'for the children' (18 years max).

The idea of personal responsibility just doesn't seem to exist in Washington any more, at least on the Democrat side. This is/was a transparent attempt to buy votes.

Also, anyone else notice something odd? This was supposed to be partially funded by raising cigarette taxes - yet more and more places are working hard to prohibit cigarette consumption. Isn't that going to cut the number of smokers? Or will they attempt to get more revenue by hiking the taxes even higher?

They'd best be careful. Remember what happened with the 'Luxury Tax' in the early '90s... it actually cost about twice as much to implement and oversee than it brought in.

Channeling Kreskin are you? That good at predicting the future? Ok, must be the same mindset the based on exiting polls Kerry would win in a landslide.

And while on the subject of "crap," (hey, you brought them up!) the Gallup poll shows 52% support the program's expansion going to families who make under $41,000 a year, as opposed to those making $62,000 a year.

What does that tell you charlie?
