Holy Moses! Harry Reid's smear letter to Rush is now up to $750,000 $851,100
Way to turn something so nasty into something so positive Rush! And there's still no word on whether the 41 Senate Democrats who signed the letter will match the final bid. If Pete Stark cares so much about our troops in Iraq, then he should meet the final bid and put his money where his mouth is.

C'mon...who dropped out after the bid passed $200.00?
of course the winning bidder will never be known...(You really think FOX will have an exclusive on the person who paid this much for an important part of Americana?)
Bidding this much on a Rush letter will show America the the "Right" are an intelligent force to be reckoned with...

Good point Gmac. It is an historical document because it represents an unusual attempt to quash the free speech rights of a private citizen who dares to take on the monolithic liberal establishment and their media court jesters.
That the sale will provide almost $2,000,000 and counting gifts to a great charity is an enormous act of generosity on behalf pf the bidder.
Or, from a cynical point of view, maybe a signatory(s) on the letter is more than a little nervous about what the letter says about them and wants the document to find a shredder.

The bid history is very unusual because the high bidder is, in effect, countering his/her own bids. I suspect that this is either a troll attempt to ruin the sale or a strong bidder telling the market (and some others) to go away.
If it is a troll bidder, they will have had to register and IP addresses would have been noted. Pity that poor fool if that is what has happened.
The beauty of this is that the charity wins (double) either way.

HughS, you fail EBay 101. All bidders have to be pre-approved by EBay and financial arrangements verified before you can bid. It's not the high bidder upping his outdoing his own bid, the high bidder has placed his proxy vote which will increment automatically when someone makes a current higher bid... It won't show the back-and-forth, cuz the highest bidder always is always on "top" of this stack.

hughs, thats not what is going on. If you know e-bay, you know that it bids for you automatically in increments up to your specified ceiling. So in the bid history, when you see bidder #1, then bidder #2 listed a whole bunch of times in a row, it is because, for example, bidder #2 has a ceiling of $500, but his bid is at $250, so when bidder #1 bids $255, bidder #2's auto bid kicks in to $256 and bidder#1 doesn't even get on the board, then bidder #1 bids $300, bidder #2's auto bid kicks it to $301, and on and on, so basically every wuto bid will put the bidder on the board, and nobody else will show up on it until they top his ceiling bid.

He says the bidding will put money in Limbaugh's pocket, but the EXACT OPPOSITE is true. Not only has he pledged that the entire bid -- every single penny -- will go to a specific charity, but he will match OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET that bid, down to the penny. So the higher the bidding, the more Limbaugh LOSES, not GAINS.
More to the point, the charity benefits the children of Marines and cops killed in the line of duty. The higher the bidding, the more they benefit.
WHY do you hate the children of fallen Marines and police officers so much, nogo?
