The shiny new glass plate monument to Che Guevara unveiled recently in Venezuela has been shot and shattered in shining example of "performance art," reports Ian James for the Associated Press:
A glass monument to revolutionary icon Ernesto "Che" Guevara was shot up and destroyed less than two weeks after it was unveiled by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's government.Images of the 8-foot-tall glass plate bearing Guevara's image, now toppled and shattered, were shown Friday on state television, which said the entire country "repudiated" the vandalism.
The monument on an Andean mountain highway near the city of Merida was unveiled Oct. 8 by Vice President Jorge Rodriguez and Cuba's ambassador to Venezuela to mark the 40th anniversary of Guevara's death.
Chavez venerates Guevara as a model socialist for all Venezuelans. He named a state-funded adult education program "Mission Che Guevara," and murals of the iconic revolutionary have become a common sight in Venezuela.
Read the whole story at the link above. I can see how Chavez holds up Guevara as "a model socialist," since he was a brutal, murdering thug, but Che, although espousing Marxist talking points, was more interested in the "revolutionary" side of the movement. He truly enjoyed the "wet work." Destroying the monument to his vile memory was an act of heroism.
Chavez proves what a complete moron he is by putting up a memorial to Che made of glass. May the day soon arrive when Venezuela is free of this despot.

Who lives by the sword dies by the sword. Chavez imported a million Kalishnikovs for his revolution. Someone is taking target practice.

Somehow I think that shattering a glass menagerie built to glorify Communism is rather poetic. But I doubt that Chavez will understand the significance.

Equally impressive is the "scenic" location where the monument was erected. Apparently, there are venezuelans there that have no intention of letting their young be influenced by this sensationalized image of Guevara.

A most fitting memorial now, shards of broken glass symbolizing the failure and the brazen ruthlessness of the man.

Che Guevara is a failed revolutionary man. I call him failed not because he got killed before he could establish the socialist regime of his dream but because the failure of the socialist regimes in Eastern Europe and Asia shows us that had he succeeded in establishing a socialist regime in South America, people who had lived in this regime would have been deprived of freedom, suffered of hunger and oppressions like billions of people had lived in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and China.
