This is just part of this massive fire, but federal and state officials are going to announce that the fire that is burning in Santiago Canyon was set by arsonists:
CBS News has learned a task force of agencies, including the FBI, ATF, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the California Department of Forestry will announce shortly that the massive Santiago Canyon Fire - which has caused an estimated $10 million in damage - is being officially declared an arson, and a $50,000 reward is being offered to find the arsonist.Investigators have identified two separate "points of origin" where they believe the fire was set, CBS News has learned. FBI agents secured the scene to "maintain its integrity."
California authorities and FBI agents searched a home Wednesday as part of the arson investigation.
The search was conducted in Orange County by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, the official said.
"FBI Los Angeles is assisting Orange County fire officials and sheriff's office in an ongoing investigation into the source of some of the fires," FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said. He referred all other questions to local authorities.
According to the report, the other fires were caused by downed power lines and a car fire. Hat tip to Drudge for the link.

Per LA Times interactive Google site, one of the fires near Santa Clarita was caused by sparks from a construction workers' torch. That was revised down from two yesterday.

So much for Harry Reid's global warming comments.
And could this mean that it's NOT Bush's fault?
Actually, cynicism aside, I am so very sorry for those people who have lost or been forced to leave their homes. My husband and I had to evacuate a few years ago and it's a terribly frightening thing to experience. It makes you think about what is most important in your lives and what can fit into 2 cars. Photos, kid's papers, financial documents, insurance policies, passports and anything living!
My thoughts and prayers go to those impacted by this and big thanks to the guys working on the fire line.

Yes! Global warming and BDS combined to push some deranged moonbat over the edge. I'd start looking at the California DNC headquarters!

This poor soul posted this in a Newsweek article and got ripped (even by the lefties in there):
Truly another tragedy of major proportions. In numerous and various places, our homes, loved ones, health, economy, livelihoods, education, identities, food supply, environment, constituitional freedoms, infrastructure, etc. are literally burning, drying up, flooding, being stolen, sacrificed, sold off, exported, compromised, poisoned, subcontractred, extorted, embezzled, melting, disintegrating, etc, and we have none to blame but ourselves and our gutless national leaders, who have this country hopelessly mired in an immoral and illegal war that has distracted our attention and resources away from matters of real importance, and severely compromised our ability to address more important, fundamental issues. I expect alot more from our government - don't you?
See how it's done Barny-----rhetorical ramblings of our loonie left. Can these people be more miserable?

I find the story to be very unclear and confusing. Arson created a fire that caused $10 million in damage. They go on to say that the devastating wildfires have caused at least $1 billion in damage in San Diego County.
So, how is the arson related to the $1 billion fire?

As a firefighter, this personally offends me. I hope they find the person or persons responsible and tie them to a tree trunk in Malibu.

#6,
So, how is the arson related to the $1 billion fire?
The Santiago fire is only one part of the larger story of multiple fires in Southern California. Currently the quote $10 million price tag is part of the larger cost of the region's fires of $1 billion.
The Orange County Register is the place for information on the Santiago fire.
