Illegal aliens working at O'Hare Airport

After 9-11, this should not be happening (emphasis mine).

Nearly two dozen illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday, accused of using fake security badges to work in critical areas of O'Hare International Airport, including the tarmac, authorities said.
The 23 illegal workers were employed by Ideal Staffing Solutions Inc., whose corporate secretary and office manager also were arrested after an eight-month investigation that involved federal, state and Chicago authorities.

The company contracted work for carriers including United Airlines, KLM and Qantas, said Elissa A. Brown, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

Much of the investigation centered on the airport security badges issued by the Department of Aviation, said U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Agents found that 110 of the 134 badges issued to Ideal Staffing workers did not match the individuals who carried them, he said.

The discrepancies were first noted in March by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspector, Fitzgerald said.

According to affidavits in a complaint against Gurin and Benitez unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, the applications for the 110 bogus badges listed Social Security numbers that either did not exist or belonged to other individuals, some of whom were dead.

The affidavits allege that Ideal Staffing told workers they needed to have identification, but that the documents did not have to be legitimate, and also accused the company of supplying some workers with deactivated badges issued in other names.

Brown, Fitzgerald and other officials declined to answer questions about how workers could use deactivated badges to enter secure areas of the airport, saying that the investigation continued and that not all details could be revealed.

Doesn't that just give you the warm-and-fuzzies?

Not only are illegal aliens able to work at one of our biggest airports, they were able to have access to secure, sensitive areas of the airport.

How did this company get away with this for so long? Why was the O'Hare Airport not more mindful of who was working there?

As Ace puts it (so well, by the way):

There is a reason people are pissed off about illegal immigration, and it isn't rank bigotry, its stories like this. Just a few years after our airlines were used to attack us, we have illegal immigrants using bogus documents and expired security badges to wander about in sensitive parts of America's largest airport. No wonder our government officials have such piss-poor poll numbers.

It's just un-freakin-believable.

Earlier this year I went to O'Hare for my work on a project that required me to go in the back way through secure areas. While I had to go through a lot of preliminary hassle beforehand, once I got there security was frighteningly disorganized and I was left alone more than once in secured areas of the airport. Most of the security personnel I did see were lounging around chatting and barely noticed me. So, needless to say, this doesn't surprise me.

The idea that you would need to ask this question after seeing the job that the government has been doing for the past six years shows only one thing.

How totally out of touch you are.

While Bush has been so busy bringing democracy to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc he's been bleeding America dry. Get used to it. Unless you know Spanish already you will be the one learning the new national language.

You folks are WAY behind the times on so much.

Funny how this happens in a liberal political environment like Chicagoland. Hmmm, two of the Dem presidential candidates have Chicago heritage, one actually produced from the Illinois Democratic political machine. If the Creator wants to teach us a lesson and we elect one of these two, expect a lot more stories like this one, and they won't get MSM coverage and/or emphasis.

We'll just be living in the land of liberal lies with life threating consequences.

Chicago's political corruption likely enabled 'connected' companys to ignore any security considerations, so their low-paid employees (and political 'volunteers') could get in.

With Daley connections, you don't have to bother with those tiresome little things like obeying the law.

When the TSA was being staffed, a lot of retired law enforcement applied for the job. They would have been perfect but the TSA would not hire them. So, we have security force that is in place now. Sad.

Do you think this may have something to do with the FBI warning of attacks in Chicago and LA during the Christmas shopping season. Evidently they are easy targets even for the uneducated Mexican criminals. Actually the American public needs another lesson so maybe a successful series of attacks will wake up the people and they'll run Peeeeloshi and Dirty Harry streight into the nearest federal prison.

I'm sure tomorrow the Republicans in congress will ask for Chertoff's head for this failure.

Hey Scrap...why do you continue to hope for more attacks? We need another lesson?
It is obvious Bush/Chertoff have not learned from the last.

You want another lesson? You are simply sick.

As for those of you trying to make immigration a winning strategy? Please have your Republican candidates place it above Iraq, Health Care Costs, our economy, Wall Street greed, corruption, oil company monopolies, yes global warming ...and see what the voters think.

Unless these illegal aliens were members of Al Qaeda or the Taliban, I don't see how they are any more of a security risk than an American worker. People from Mexico aren't security risks just because they are from Mexico. Security risks don't bear any distinctive marks which say, "Hi, I am a security risk; don't hire me. Timothy McVeigh would have passed muster to work in the same job as these illegal aliens.

How stupid does one have to be to allow non-American criminal foreigners free travel in a high security area, and to work in and around aircraft? Probably as near stupid as Americans who don't understand why this is a big problem. Its not hard to verify legality. Require and check their SSN. Very lazy, very greedy, very selfish, very liberal.

chiuninho:

naaaah, must disagree. i think it's *more* than just the usual liberal/statist/government laziness, greed, selfishness, etc.

we look at the current response from a republican government - the party of (cue fanfare) **TRUE AMERICA!!**, the party that (says they're) against illegals, etc..... and these are the guys who are, oddly, not doing a thing about it. in fact, they're actively working *against* illegal immigration enforcement: ask campeon & ramos. (it goes without saying the dems would be much worse at this: democrats historically pay recent immigrants to [commit voter fraud and] vote democrat, now is no different.)

so! nothing gets done about illegals. "it's too *hard*", they whine. "there's too *many*", they snivel. so as a result, we read stories of illegals working in highly sensitive jobs, even after 9-11: doing work that could kill lotsa americans, if they wanted to.

now let's compare & contrast that approach with uncle sam's ongoing fight against The Scourge Of Drugs. they've been battling the demon weed and the satanic white powders for **90 YEARS** now, with ever-worsening results. do they give up on THAT?!? do they say THAT'S too hard?

or do they spend ever more money and pass ever more draconian laws? destroying ever more of our freedoms & liberties? seizing ever more of our property and money on ever-flimsier pretexts? we've now reached the point of gunning down little ol' grandmaw ladies in "drug busts" (most recently, kathryn johnston of atlanta)(nice shooting there, officers. you guys are the true heroes!) - and then lying about it, of course. ("the doobie we were proven to have planted in her house proves without doubt that ms. johnston was a major drug kingpin! like pablo escobar, only much much older!")

why the huge difference in approaches between drugs & illegal immigration? disparities practiced by BOTH political parties? there MUST be a reason, right? such a huge disparity CAN'T be an accident, can it? gosh, what could the answer be?
