Barry Bonds wasn't the only game in Legal Town on Friday:
Supreme Court to hear airport terror case
The Supreme Court agreed Friday to consider reinstating part of the conviction of would-be millennium bomber Ahmed Ressam, a case the Bush administration says will greatly affect terrorism prosecutions.Ressam, an Algerian national, was sentenced to 22 years in prison in 2005 after being convicted on nine counts for plotting to bomb Los Angeles International Airport around January 1, 2000.
Ah, yes, Y2K.
The Kos/Colbert blocs were in junior high school. Tom DeLay still was The Hammer, as opposed to being the nail.
Halcyon days.
In any event, getting back to that case, that appeal involves a decision by the liberal 9th Circuit to toss out one of the charges against Mr. Terrorist. The SCOTUS will reverse and reinstate.

Here's a case that probably would be of interest to social conservatives, law students, Federalism advocates, libertarians, judicial originalists *and* liberal malcontents:
A lesbian couple that married in Massachusetts cannot get divorced in their home state, according to a ruling Friday by that state's supreme court. The court, in a 3-2 decision, said the state's family court lacks the authority to grant the divorce of a same-sex couple because state lawmakers have not defined marriage as anything other than a union between a man and a woman.
'The role of the judicial branch is not to make policy, but simply to determine . . . legislative intent,' the court wrote.
South Carolina?
Nope.

Getting back to the SCOTUS:
The Supreme Court said Friday it will review whether a defendant who is judged competent to stand trial has the right to be his own lawyer, even if he has a history of serious mental illness.
I don't see why not. Hell, a deranged layman could not be all that worse than a good chunk of the nation's licensed attorneys.
Seriously.

Hey. Hey-hey. There are many good attorneys out there; trouble is, you only hear about the Nifong types.
The best attorney is the one who quietly goes about saving his client's ass.

The 9th circus serves as a lighthouse beacon to warn all Americans of what will happen should leftists acquire the balance of political power. It is a frightening future.

Sorry, off topic but you must put up a thread addressing the stupid decision by NBC to not air the ad thanking our troops (by FreedomWatch).
My family will be boycotting NBC and GE. I strongly encourage everyone else to do the same and please let others know. Please watch the ad over at YouTube (just watching the ad should be enough to stir you to action).

Hey, all you originalists out there: doesn't originalism strongly support the 9th circuit in this case?

They are too lazy to drive from Rhode Island to Massachusetts for a divorce? Maybe they forgot the route they took to get married?
Clearly they do need a "Big Brother" to take care of them.
