Legislators from Mexican State Angry at Influx of...Mexicans

Can you believe the nerve of these people? Nine state legislators from the Mexican state of Sonora traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona's new employer crackdown on illegals from Mexico. It seems many Mexican illegals are now returning to their hometowns and the officials in the Sonora state government are ticked:

A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.

At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money.

The law, which took effect Jan.1, punishes employers who knowingly hire individuals who don't have valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension or loss of a business license.

They're pissed off because their own citizens are returning to their hometowns, placing a huge burden on their state government. This lady has some serious balls:

They want to tell them how the law will affect Mexican families on both sides of the border

"How can they pass a law like this?" asked Mexican Rep. Leticia Amparano Gamez, who represents Nogales.

"There is not one person living in Sonora who does not have a friend or relative working in Arizona," she said in Spanish.

"Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems" it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs, she said.

"We are one family, socially and economically," she said of the people of Sonora and Arizona.

Wrong. The United States is a sovereign nation and its states and its citizens are not responsible for the welfare of Mexico's citizens. It's time for the Mexican government to stop parasitically feeding off of the United States and start taking care of its own citizens.

Exactly right. And very little will get down to save our nation until we have leaders who have the courage to say this to Mexico's leaders. We don't have to be enemies; we can be friends and neighbors but that also doesn't mean we're going to accept tens of millions of Mexico's peasants, because that's what we're going to get if we don't wise up and enforce our laws.

Yes the US is a sovereign nation Kim. And yes, the US is not responsible for the welfare of Mexican nationals. But there is legitimacy to the idea that communities exist in Arizona and Sonora that cross-cut the national borders.

The same can be said here in California, where I live. The border may be a huge impediment, but familial, political, social, and economic ties extend beyond its lines. This is reality. It's not as if our economies, interests, and societies are completely severed. They are in fact heavily interconnected, whether people want to realize that or not. This is a nation that we share a HUGE border with; it seems to me that we should try to create a positive and mutually beneficial relationship with Mexico.

There are many families in which the parents are Mexican nationals and the children are US citizens. The problem is that deporting the parents could prove disastrous not only for them, but for the children they leave behind. This isn't some simple issue in which people can simply be kicked out. It's pretty damn complicated.

Too many people characterize this as some kind of invasion, in which people are coming here to take over our country. Look, people have been crossing our borders since the get go, including people from Mexico and other parts of Latin America. There was a backlash against them in the 1960s, AFTER about 20 years of the Bracero program (which was fairly exploitative). Immigration increased in the 1980s to high levels due in large part to economic, political, and social disasters that befell countries like Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. There wasn't some plot to invade the USA. People came here to work because they did what they had to do to survive. This is comparable to the reasons why many Europeans emigrated to the "New World" starting in 1492. Except there were no immigration policies back then of course. It's not as if my German ancestors who emigrated to the Americas in 1717 came here LEGALLY, you know. They just came here and set up camp, despite the previous tenants.

Today, many people are coming here from south of the border to work their asses off, and many Americans are glad to hire them. It's true. Characterizing them all as criminals intent on destroying the American way of life is completely absurd. Yes, there are significant problems with our immigration system, and yes we have criminals crossing our borders. But we also have hundreds of thousands of hard-working human beings who are taking the chance to improve their lives by risking the illegal crossing. Our solution to the immigration problem HAS TO account for these complexities.

I really wish all the damn paranoia about Mexico and its people would stop. Yes, there are plenty of problems with the Mexican government, but the same can be said of our own. Corruption and inefficiency know few geopolitical boundaries.

Mexican people, as well as people from other Latin American countries, are human beings who deserve respect and consideration. It doesn't matter if they are here legally or illegally. They still have rights, and they still deserve humane treatment. I think that we can find solutions to these problems without resorting to all of the vitriolic and hyperbolic rhetoric that so often pervades immigration debates.

Hahaha. Ok, see if you can argue without resorting to asinine insults. I know its hard for some of you Wizbangers, but give it a try.

Anchor babies. This was never the intent of the law.

Look, that's just one example of the kinds of relationships that exist. It is a gray area in our laws, which up to this point have been interpreted to mean that the children of people who cross here illegally are citizens. That may or may not get changed in the future--but right now it is creating a situation in which we have this somewhat difficult problem. The children, at this point, are citizens, whether or not this was the intent of the law. So we have to deal with this in some kind of rational and humane manner. I understand the fact that you disagree with it, but that doesn't mean we can just throw people out.

How can you so easily disconnect the terms "illegal" and "Criminal"? An illegal act is criminal, the perpetrator being one and the same.

Because many people do things that are illegal without being labeled criminals. Besides, I'm not quite sure how it helps to characterize farmers from southern Mexico as criminals, as if they represent some huge threat to our society. Many of these people are here to work, period. Yes, there are criminals who enter, running drugs for instance, and they have to be stopped. But we have to find a way to deal with the different kinds of immigrants who are crossing illegally.

Yes, we need severe immigration reform. We have to find a way to have people coming here through an efficient system, as opposed to going around it. What we have right now creates a situation in which many immigrants live without rights and without the protection of our basic laws--they don't go to police or any other authorities since they fear getting deported.

It seems to me that we have room for people who come here work hard and make an honest living. In fact, that's what this whole country is built from--the same kind of drive and motivation that these people from Mexico and other Latin American countries have. It's just that these days they represent the scapegoat population, just as the Chinese immigrants did in the late 19th century/early 20th century.

When did your family get here? My German side arrived in the early 18th century, and they came here because their homeland was pretty devastated from decades of internal warfare. Kinda like the reason why so many people from Guatemala come to the USA. When things get bad, people do what they have to do. When you're broke and hungry, a misdemeanor violation is hardly a deterrent.

Well, yes it does mattter, and no. they don;t have any "rights", but thanks for exposing your intentions for a socialist utopia here in the U.S.

Why don't you tell that to the supreme court? Or better yet, why not tell that to your neighborhood pastor? Do you seriously think that our American ideals about inalienable rights apply only within our borders?

Crossing the border illegally is indeed a violation of our legal system. But that doesn't mean that the people who do this automatically lose their basic human rights, and it doesn't mean that they can be treated as animals. We have it pretty good here in the United States, and it's not as if we all migrated here "legally." It might be a good idea to gain a good understanding of our history before getting all high and mighty about who has rights and who doesn't. Just in case you forgot, everyone living in the United States comes from migration. Some came here around 12,000 years ago, some a little later.

The "lame-brained law" is called the 14th amendment, just in case you were wondering. It certainly does have its gray areas, and hopefully something will be done to clarify it. Up to this point it has been interpreted in a certain way, and that has created the situation in which these people are American citizens.

The children woudl be better off with non - law-breaking parents anyway.

Taking kids away from their family will make things even worse, IMO.

Jeeze Ryan, Please learn the facts. Watch CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight at 5:00 Mountain time. The info is there is you're really interested. The facts are that this illegal invasion is bankrupting many cities in Calif., esp. L.A. It's Mayor is Latino and all for more Mexican immigrants esp. illegal ones. The ethnocentric groups like "La Raza" ( which means The Race) want everything given to them. They DEMAND benefits we American Citizens could not get. Like, not having to say out of state higher tuition fees to attend college. There are places on our sovereign border where thousands of Mexican children across over bridges to go to school daily in this country. Many cities have suffered the effects of the influx of illegal immigrants. Health clinics have closed, cities are overwhelmed. Social services, schools, hospitals, Government programs are without funds to treat American citizens. Thousands of citizens have been murdered or killed in auto accidents by illegals who don't have a clue how to drive. Have your heard of the "Reconquista". That is the drive for Mexico, through it's citizen invasion to retake land that we took from Mexico. The second largest income for Mexico government's (the first being oil revenue) is the money the illegals send back to Mexico. What they earn here is not spend here. Our family history records, an Aunt and her dog killed in a head on collision on a bridge with an illegal drunk Mexican. My niece in Calif. was having her baby and shared a room with an illegal from Columbia. She paid no bill, but my niece and her husband paid thousands of dollars over 6 months to pay their bill. My nephew does pool decks and cement work. He is being outbid by Mexican illegals and is losing work to them. He has a family to support. Our electric Coop here hires Osmose out of Texas to check our electric lines at $8.00 per hour. There are plenty of folks here who would work for $8.00 an hour. Best of all, this info from our Government's Office of the Budget estimates there will be a shortage of 2.4 BILLION dollars over 10 years in Social Security when the illegals in this country start collecting their
benefits. That means there won't be money for U.S. citizens. Soo, please answer my comments, but please don't let your gentle heart bleed for those who are gaming this system daily.

Our politicans have NO backbone to stop the mess...they just allow it to continue and take more of your tax dollars to pay for the illegals. Americans need to stand up to the politicians and tell them we are fed up with it and want something done. We need to take America back!!
The 14th Amendment was NOT written to give illegals in the United States free citizenship just because they were born here... that amendment was written to protect the babies who were born to the black slaves after the civil war. Its a shame our own politicans elected to protect the constitution and take care of the citizens of this country...the LEGAL citizens, don't even know the constitution.

Yes they take jobs and yes they do cause problems but the same jobs that our own Amerian's don't want. I would love to see one "American" go out in the middle of the heat and pick oranges and lemons, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. from the groves. One "American" clean hotel rooms, wash dishes, etc. These are all jobs that are not wanted and not desired along with many many construction jobs. Unfortunatly we all love to enjoy these items but don't worry to go and look at what the job entails. I too say send them all back because the only ones that will eventually suffer are the "Americans" when they don't have these items to enjoy. Send them back so they will be appreciated some day. Society needs to change but this definitly will not even make a dent in the U.S.'s problems. The government just doesn't know how to take advantage of these people by charging them for a annual permit to work and believe me if they had that option they wouldn't be sticking around but going to their own beautiful country and enjoying a wonderful life. Ryan, just exactly why are you so vehemenent in your defense of illegal immigrants, whether they be MKexican, Guatamalan, Honduran, Panamanian, et. You are right about the Mexican government? though and yes, we do have problems with our own government, especially the fact that our elected officials are more concerned about getting re-elected than they are about what the LEGAL US citizens are telling them. Why does the Mexican government try as hard as it can to stop the influx of other south American immigrees, yet they seem powerless to stop the mass exodus of their own people, as a matter of fact the Mexican government actually encourages its' citizens to cross illegally into the United States, just so the corrupt government officials can line their pockets with more of the money the illegals send home so their uncle, cousin, grandmother, brother, niece three times removed can come here to sponge off the hard working LEGAL citizens of the United States.
From your post it seems that you are a LaLa Land liberal who's own state is going to go bankrupt because it is providing all the free services to ILLEGALS. Just exactly how much does an illegal pay into income tax, social security, Medicare or Medicaid as to what they recieve in free services which our inompetant government officials provide for them, services which come from the taxes LEGAL American citizens pay.
Did you not get rather upset when the Latinos staged their protest marches, flew the Mexican flag above the flag of the United States which they had upside down. If you didn't get mad about that, then you are a pitiful excuse for an AMERICAN !!!

That's a good question - it deserves an answer. Over 80 percent of Americans demand secured borders and illegal migration stopped. But what would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America? The answers may surprise you!

In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupted hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominate language again.

In Colorado, 500,000 illegal migrants, plus their 300,000 kids and grand-kids - would move back "home," mostly to Mexico. The would save Coloradoans an estimated $2 billion (other experts say $7 BIL) annually in taxes that pay for schooling, medical, social-services and incarceration costs. It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone.

Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67 percent drop out/flunk out rate via thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. At least 200,000 vehicles would vanish from our gridlocked cities in Colorado. Denver's four percent unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living w age.

In Florida, 1.5 million Illegals would return the Sunshine State back to America, the rule of law and English.

In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million Illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home" --

If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home," the U.S. economy would return to the rule of law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage. Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local state and city coffers.

No more push '1' for Spanish or '2' for English. No more confusion in American schools that now must content with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for America n kids. Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually would vacate our country. In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the "18th Street Gang" would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

Losing more than 20 million people would clear up our crowded highways and gridlock. Cleaner air and less drinking and driving American deaths by illegal aliens!

Drain on America's economy; taxpayers harmed, employers get rich

Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to their home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America's economy - which currently suffers an $8.7 trillion debt.

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupted out of existence because Illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act. Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country-brought in by Illegals unscreened at our borders.

Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities. It would also put the "progressives" on the horns of a dilemma; illegal aliens and their families cause 11 percent of our greenhouse gases.

Over one million of Mexico's poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California in what the New York Times called, "colonies" or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, electricity, roads or any kind of sanitation. The New York Times reported them to be America's new "Third World "inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonies. (I've seen them personally in Texas and Arizona; it's sickening beyond anything you can imagine.) By enforcing our laws, we could repatriate them back to Mexico.

High integrity, ethical invitation

We invite 20 million aliens to go home, fix their own countries and/or make a better life in Mexico. We invite a million people into our country legally, more than all other countries combined, annually. We cannot and must not allow anarchy at our borders, more anarchy within our borders and growing lawlessness at every level in our nation.

It's time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.

I couldn't agree more with what Arizona is doing. I think that all of the states should follow suit. The only thing that could make it better would be if we had people going into companies to check on their employees to see if there are any here illegally and then take the same action. That would speed up the availability of job openings that we are so desparately in need of for our own economy.

This would make a baby born to non-citizen or illegals have the same citizenship as the parents nothing more disallowing anchor babies.

ALLIE from Fullerton:

I still don't get why we've put up with illegals and their offspring defacing our cities with their inconsiderate littering and using public property as a garbage can as well as letting their kids run wild in public places with no discipline whatsoever...not to mention their reliance on taxpayer money to educate and feed their children...and why we haven't done a DAMN thing about it, like refusing to let their chronically pregnant women have child after child after child...and why we don't DEMAND to our government reps that this STOP...INMEDIATEMENTE. People are WAY too afraid of not being politically correct. Hey, if you're prejudiced against people who have disgusting cultural values, you SHOULD be. And be PROUD to say it.

Look at the number of people who are in agreement with Arizona's law and angry that we have to put up with more Mexican insults (99%) and the number who think sinking our ship with dead weight of millions of illegal (criminal) aliens is the right thing to do (1%) and ask why it's even a question. Why are our legislators hell-bent on ignoring the outpouring of resentment? Are they making that much graft from the employers who love the slave labor? The argument for getting rid of the cheap workers in favor of giving jobs to American citizens at decent wages is infallible. Of course people out of work would do these jobs "that no one wants" if they were paid properly. Of course I'd rather pay more for goods and produce than having my tax dollars, public health facilities, and Social Security wasted on people who have absolutely NO RIGHT to them. Inhumane? No, inhumane is a government that says it doesn't want its own people back. Our legislators should all be convicted as traitors to the U.S.

P.S. I believe our legislators actually think they'll be buying votes when these millions of illegals are made citizens, but that won't happen. The interlopers will replace every one in the government with their own people and our gringo law makers will be trampled in the dust as they stand at the border with their arms opened welcoming them. The Mexican nationals have made that intention VERY clear.

I DON'T THINK SO!

Ryan, or who ever you are. THis is my first time on this site but I can tell by your post you are a product of Ca public school. I guess its not your fault where your parents decided to live but Sir, you are ate-up with the DUMB-ASS. Do you realize these Illegals take jobs away from Americans? They also cause the wages of Americans to go down because they work for less money than Americans do. Americans expect to be paid a living wage so they can support there families. Illegals will work for a crap wage and live 5 families to a 2 beedroom house to get by.
So while you sit up there on your HIGH-HORSE just remember, some day some Illegal might take your job because he will work for less than you so why would your boss keep you when he can pay the Illegal half of what you want to be payed.
Oh by the way, while the Illegal takes your job, his family will be getting every kind of social service this country can offer with your tax money.

Just in case anyone here doesn't know, Mexico's immigration policy is simple. If you weren't born in Mexico, of Mexican parents, you can't own land, vote, hold a good job, etc. if you are there illegally, you are prosecuted. and yet they want us to throw open our doors and our wallets to support them? personally I say there should be snipers on teh border with scopes forever pointing south. No illegal immigrant, regardless of place of origin, should have any "rights" here.

But I do have to say that if they get rid of the illegals, there will be no more cheap labor and many of the other races are going to have to start doing "real work", and not just typing and doing paper work in a cool and air conditioned office...that's not real work! It's a catch 22. Get rid of illegals and do labor work or keep them and sit in a comfy office. I'm sorry, we as Americans are lazy, that's why we look to cheap labor. The people complaining about illegals are usually the same ones that have immigrants cut their grass, do repairs to their house, clean their house, or look after their kids...I've seen this so many times it's nauseating! I'm all for deporting people who don't belong here, but we need to get real about the situation.

Irene:

I am an American living in Mexico for the last 27 years. I love America with all my heart. In Mexico if you are here without paper also know as Illegal it is a felony and the people that know that are also by law in Mexico criminals. Hence my husband who is a Mexican citizen. If I was to ever become a mexican citizen ( and I will not) I can not vote in an election only people born in this country may vote here. My children went to school here and the day I took them to school they did not speak any spanish and nor did I. They went to school and they learned. no special treatment for them no and they lived. it did not effect them. I learn Spanish because I wanted to be able to go to the store and talk. Nothing was given to me in English. We have a business and I learned to pay the taxes in spanish I can not get a driver license becasue I have no Paper I am illegal. My kids went to private school the mexican goverment has never given me anything I have paid my way all this time. If the Mexican that crossed our boarder illegal stayed home and fixed here what they take for granted in the U.S. This might be a better country someday. We as business owner are always looking for workers but most ( not all)of the people are lazy and want something for nothing.
Mexico is a very rich country they have oil, natural gas, gold, silver, great soil to grow everything Don't let them tell you it is a poor country. If you want to make it here you can. It is called really hard work.
Close the boarder to the illegal. send them home let Mexico deal with them. They protect the southern boarder and send the people back.
I hope I have spelled everything correctly I don't use my english as much as I should. BUT I AM IN MEXICO NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ME.
Send them home. oh yeah If you want to be President of this country Your parents both must have been born in Mexico. Thank God my grandchildren can not be the President here as all of them have parents born in the United States. Now maybe we should change some of our laws to match this country. You can not hold any public office unless you are born here. Good bye Arnold and soon many more

You say - "Yes they take jobs and yes they do cause problems but the same jobs that our own American's don't want. I would love to see one "American" go out in the middle of the heat and pick oranges and lemons, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. from the groves. One "American" clean hotel rooms, wash dishes, etc. These are all jobs that are not wanted and not desired along with many construction jobs. "

Well here I am - better yet I'll give you six "Americans". My mother, father, three bothers and myself have all picked onions in the fields of California in the sweltering heat - cutting fingers and going on to complete row after row.

My mother was a maid for several motel/hotels throughout the U.S. along with her other job as a nurses aid. My brother and I have both been dishwashers and another brother a construction worker.

Our family ran a janitorial business - yes family owned and operated - which means we cleaned the toilets, scrubbed the floors, washed windows and picked up trash and other things most people would run screaming from in fright.

When you say these are jobs "Americans" don't want - you are dead wrong. I'm disgusted by this typical response by people who obviously have not been directly affected by the influx of illegal immigrants into the U.S.
I could say so much more, but it won't matter until we have politicians who will stand up and say "no more - enough is enough and I hear what the "American" people want".

Oh by the way I've never been on welfare and I'm an average white woman with a good job, which I pay taxes to our Government from my wages. How many illegal immigrants can say that?

Jim:

We should make it easier for them to get their US Citizenship.

When they are caught illegally crossing the border, rather than send them back as we do now, they should be given an option to become a legal US Citizen, after they spend a tour of duty in Iraq. They will get a Private's wage so they can send the money home to Mexico. During their tour, they will be given the oppurtunity to learn English.

If they refuse, send them back to Mexico. If they are caught again, off to Prison with a work detail to clean up the mess the Illegals have made of Southern Arizona. Once they have picked up the 25 Million pounds of trash they have left behind (http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/border/140004). Send them back.

Seems pretty straight forward to me....
