Bill Clinton's Outbursts are Part of the Clinton Strategy

It's not that Bill is out of control and won't shut up; rather, his being out there spouting off is part of the Clintons' strategy, according to Ben Smith at The Politico. Even though Kennedy and Emanuel have told him to shut up, don't expect him to go away any time soon. The Democratic base loves Bill Clinton and wants him back in the White House.

The logic is clear. Bill Clinton's approval rating stood at 79 percent among Democrats in one CBS poll this summer, and interviews with voters in the early states often find Democrats saying that her access to her husband's advice is a key reason for supporting Hillary Clinton.

"While some observes have warned the campaign not to allow the former president to 'steal the limelight,' [Bill] Clinton has the ability to validate the candidate and launch aggressive push backs on [Hillary's] opponents, including those of us in the media," said Donna Brazile, a former Clinton aide and CNN commentator who was recently one of his critics.

He's "a beloved figure in the Democratic party," she added.

Some have wondered if Bill could possibly be happy not being in control; however, does anyone really think he won't be in control if Hillary wins the Democratic nomination and then the general election? Ben Smith ends his piece with this, and I think he's right in his analysis of Bill's motives:

The shift in Bill Clinton's role -- from silver-haired statesman to attack dog -- has drawn warnings that he's compromising his legacy and his stature. But what better way to defend his legacy, he has apparently concluded, than getting his wife elected president?

Update: Tom Daschle, an Obama supporter, calls Bill's behavior "unpresidential." I don't think he or Hillary cares what other Democrats think. What matters to them is getting Hillary into the White House and getting the Democratic nomination is the first step. If behaving in ways that the Democratic base laps up but other Democrats think is unpresidential gets them that nomination, so be it.

Bill Clinton's legacy and stature were compromised long ago. The Democrats apparently don't mind. In fact, they like it that way. Birds of a feather and so forth.

Even a liberal can see through the Clinton 's legacy as not a big deal! Yup, that hurts. All the liberal Clinton apologists will keep citing poll numbers.

What's Gotten Into Bill?

Obama's candidacy not only threatens to obliterate the dream of a Clinton Restoration. It also fundamentally calls into question Bill Clinton's legacy by making it seem . . . not really such a big deal.

Tiny Tom is just finding this out? Where the hell was he from 1993-2001 anyway? Or could he just not see over the podium?

Clinton is doing what he does best, perhaps better than any politician in my lifetime: campaign. He is brilliant at the art of the preemptive attack. When he laughs at Obama's central (and only) claim of having been against the war "since Day One," and says "It's a fairy tale" and "Give me a break!" he put Obama on the defensive about it. Obama came down from the clouds to rejoin "politics as usual," which he cannot practice with the fire and ice of the Clintons, losing whatever advantage he may have had.

Remember when Jerry Brown brought up Whitewater in a 1992 Democratic debate? Clinton shot back angrily, "Lay off my wife!" (as if he had nothing to do with it) and looked like he was going to punch Brown in the mouth. Issue closed.

You may also recall how the Clinton machine had painted Monica Lewinsky as a lying, mentally disturbed stalker - until the DNA turned up. These folks are practiced at the art of destruction. If you don't want to be shredded, run over, eaten, and defecated, stay the heck out of their way!

mantis:

Well, if you were at all aware of the voting results, you would know that much more than a "real small minority" of white liberals are voting for Obama. For instance, if you believe the exit polls New Hampshire white males voted 38% for Obama, compared to 30% for Clinton and 20% for Edwards. He got trounced by Clinton in the white female category, and in total got 36% of the white vote, compared to 39% for Clinton and 17% for Edwards. White Nevadans went for Clinton more than the Granite-Staters, but Obama still took 34% of the white vote (to Clinton's 52%). In Iowa Obama handily took the white vote across the board. Do you think a black Republican candidate would do so well among white voters in the primaries?

Anyway, I don't see why you bother to quibble about the differences in support among the Democrats. They're all in the "moral sewage" anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go kill a few babies (and not terrorists).

LoveAmerica Immigrant:

Yup, after Iowa, Clinton pulled out the race card and it seems to work. Given the known corruption of the Clintons, I would expect 90% of the white liberals would vote for Obama. But in the end 52% of them deliver NH to Hillary. What a shame! In Nevada, you can contribute Hillary win to Hispanic vote, but again if white liberals would flock to Obama, he would have won. That 's the real story. In the end, white liberals is one important constituency that keeps the Clinton machine going. That is the real shame no matter how you want to spin it.

BTW, if you don't seem to have an answer to the facts about the liberal agenda. Just look at the effort the left would spend to save the trees and the terrorists. Compare that to the effort to make sure that surviving aborted babies do not get medical care. Just look at their actions and you can see clearly. For all your spin and euphemism, the ugly truth about the liberal agenda stands out: "saving trees, killing babies/not terrorists, big gov"

LoveAmerica Immigrant:

BTW, I don't see the quibble among the dems in terms of agenda. They are all for abortion (killing babies first - no wonder Hillary try to outdo Obama in terms of abortion extremism), American defeat (save the terrorists), global warming (save the trees first, damn the poor), and big gov health care solution.

The quibble among the dem primary is about race, gender, and class warfare (Hillary, Obama, and Edwards). Unfortunately, the white liberals have sided with a known corrupted white liberal against a real black presidential candidate. Again, liberals are all about talk.
