The Knucklehead of the Day award

Today's winner is John Hunter. He gets the award for the following.

Claiming to possess vital information for undercover detectives, career criminal John Hunter wanted police to pay him a visit -- so he dialed 911 to report two armed men selling drugs on South Beach, police say.

*****

Miami Beach police arrested Hunter on Saturday night after receiving an emergency call of ``two black males carrying firearms and selling drugs.''

Officers rushed to 13th Street and Washington Avenue, the heart of the South Beach party scene.

No gunmen. Instead, they found Hunter, a 38-year-old felon with a ''Lisa'' tattoo on his neck and a string of convictions for drugs, trespassing and theft.

''I called in the guns because I have important information for undercover officers,'' he told Officer Robert Azicri, according to an arrest report.

Hunter's troubles didn't stop with the bogus call.

Azicri found Hunter with one packet of suspected cocaine, one of suspected marijuana and 119 more packets of suspected drugs.

Hunter ''caused numerous officers to divert from other calls for service to respond to the area due to the nature of the call,'' Azicri wrote in his arrest report.

He faces one count of misuse of a 911 system, as well as four drug charges.

If you are going to call police, first rule is get rid of your stash first. John Hunter forgot that, and that and his bogus 911 call are why he is today's Knucklehead of the Day.
