The Andrea Eichhorn saga appears to be wrapping up.
The Casselberry police sergeant who sued the family of a severely brain damaged boy because she slipped in a puddle of water while helping with his rescue is still fired.The lawsuit was dropped in a matter of days after a huge public outcry happened. Both people in law enforcement and the media also concerns that the public could be scared to call 911 fearing a lawsuit if a law enforcement officer or fireman responded to their home and they got injured. Andrea Eichhorn was quickly suspended from her job and then fired in December.Former Sgt. Andrea Eichhorn, 36, was fired Dec. 4 by Police Chief John Pavlis. She appealed that decision, and today Casselberry City Manager Barbara Lipscomb denied the appeal.
Eichhorn went to the home of one-year-old Joey Cosmillo Jan. 9, 2007. The boy had fallen into the backyard pool, and his mother had dragged him out and called 911.
While watching rescuers work to revive the boy, Eichhorn slipped in a puddle caused by his rescue, fell and broke a kneecap.
Although the city or its insurer paid all her medical bills and she lost not a single day of pay, she sued the child's grandparents, who own the home where the accident happened, accusing them of being negligent.
Eichhorn was a scumbag and is a disgrace to law enforcement. Her attorney, David Heil, is a bottom feeder himself. What did he say last October?
Her attorney said those benefits, paid by the city's workers' compensation carrier, were not enough. The suit seeks an unspecified amount of money.A child has permanent brain damage but my client may get arthritis. What a piece of @@#@! this lawyer is.Eichhorn, he said, is a victim. Her knee aches, and she will likely develop arthritis.
If the Cosmillos had made their pool baby-proof, police would not have been called to the scene, there would have been no water on the floor, and Eichhorn would not have hurt herself, he said.
"It's a situation where the Cosmillos have caused these problems, brought them on themselves, then tried to play the victim," he said.
Andrea Eichhorn had other employment issues besides the moronic lawsuit she filed.
The Orlando Sentinel reviewed Eichhorn's personnel file last week, and it was unblemished, but on Thursday the city produced more records, showing she had been disciplined in 1998.There are other so far unproved allegations against Eichhorn. Read comment #330.(It was written a day before the Sentinel reported about Eichhorn's use of a false name and being investigated by the FDLE. So the commenter has some credibility) Seems to me Casselberry should have fired this officer long ago. Lets hope Andrea Eichhorn never works another day in law enforcement.According to police records, Eichhorn had used a false name four times while working an off-duty job, something the Police Department concluded may have been a tax dodge designed to hide income. She was docked a week's pay, took a $40 pay cut and was banned from off-duty jobs for six months.

I would think the "Fireman's Rule" would also apply, i.e. If I'm crazy enough to go into your burning home to put the fire out and get hurt, you are not liable if I get hurt. There are exceptions for arson, etc. and negligence, but it has to be exceptional. To expect the home owners to chase medics around with mop is ludicrous.
