From Fox News-
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is expected to submit his resignation to the New York General Assembly Monday night after allegations surfaced earlier in the day that he is "Client 9," named in a federal prostitution case. Why would employing a prostitute require Spitzer's resignation? The New York Times gives us that angle.Four arrests were made last week in connection to the alleged high-dollar ring, known as the Emperors Club VIP. According to a law enforcement official, Spitzer was named in court papers as a client after being taped arranging a meeting with one of the prostitutes.
The New York Times reports that the governor's travel records show he was in Washington in mid-February. It also says one of the ring's clients arranged to meet with a prostitute during that time.
An affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring said that a wiretap recording captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.Ah the Mann Act. As a former Attorney General, Spitzer should be aware of this law. Of course, he probably didn't feel it applied to him. Not the first or the last elected official to think they are above the law. The stupidity of Spitzer's actions is just incredible.*****
Federal prosecutors rarely charge clients in prostitution cases, which are generally seen as state crimes. But the Mann Act, passed by Congress in 1910 to address prostitution, human trafficking and what was viewed at the time as immorality in general, makes it a crime to transport someone between states for the purpose of prostitution. The four defendants charged in the case unsealed last week were all charged with that crime, along with several others.
James Joyner at OTB has a rather good and lengthy post on this developing story. At the bottom of the post, James reports-
A well placed source tells me that Spitzer will announce his resignation at 7 Eastern this evening. If Spitzer resigns, Lt. Governor David A. Paterson, becomes governor. He is both African-American and legally blind.

The first sentence was the point....
The federal investigation of a New York prostitution ring was triggered by Gov. Eliot Spitzer's suspicious money transfers, initially leading agents to believe Spitzer was hiding bribes, according to federal officials.

Questions re: Spitzer
1. How many people get caught in a vice sting on their 1st offense?
2. Who covers his tab at $5,500 per session?
3. How many prostitution rings are not connected to organized crime?
4. How long has he been a user?
5. How many O.C. figures do not know who Spitzer is?
It's not about sex, it's about the a.g./governor of NY being compromised...
how many of his selected prosecutions have been dictated by his own agenda, or by others? What would getting advance word of his targets be worth, or for that matter did he take direction under duress?

Your last response was interesting - muddled and not a straight answer - but interesting. You leapt to the defense of david when I challenged him about the point he raised about "money laundering" when he conveniently omitted the sentence that stated the IRS and FBI determined Spitzer wasn't hiding bribes. Clearly, it was an attempt to create an impression by omission (an act of intellectual dishonesty). There is absolutely no other reason to state it that way.
If you support his point you too are intellectual dishonest. I'm not lecturing you at all - just pointing out the obvious. I have no idea what you mean by not sliding out of here.

---------------------------------
After showing contrition to his colleagues for betraying conservative principles, Vitter got a standing ovation as pointed out below. Spitzer should get a standing ovation for staying true to the liberal principles. Is that why the liberals are trashing Vitter and now defending Spitzer? Since liberals advocating trashing the family, teaching pornography in schools, allowing abortion for 12 year old girl (eg. Spitzer), lower the legal age for prostitution (eg. Ginsburg), and denying medical care to surviving aborted children, so Spitzer 's behavior is no big deal! Brian, you can give Spitzer a standing ovation for staying true to your liberal values.

Mr. American Hypocrite Weighs In
This morning, NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been scheduled to speak to the Family Planning Advocates' 31st Annual Conference. The abortion racketeers are seeking more money. And he was preparing to push legislators to do their bidding-before he was forced to cancel his appearance.
As payback to his abortion industry supporters, Spitzer had supported "the Reproductive Health & Privacy Protection Act (RHAPP)" under the guise of "codifying Roe v. Wade." It would:
* Allow non-doctors to perform abortions, including a dentist, a social worker, or a health care practitioner.
* Let girls as young as 12 obtain abortions throughout all 9 months of pregnancy without ever having to tell their parents.
* Force health practitioners or Catholic hospitals to lose their medical licenses if they don't perform abortions since they would be denying women the "fundamental right" of an abortion.
