American Idol - Top 12 Week

americanidollogo_2.jpg

Sure it's a guilty pleasure, but you probably watched some of the top 12 American Idols nail Beatles songs and others massacre them on Idol's Lennon/McCartney week. Here's our breakdown of the top twelve performances.

    The Stars!

  1. Carly Smithson

  2. David Cook

  3. Brooke White
  4. The Almost Famous

  5. Jason Castro

  6. Chikezie

  7. Amanda Overmyer
  8. The Ho-hum's

  9. Michael Johns

  10. Syesha Mercado

  11. Ramiele Mulubay
  12. The WTF's

  13. David Hernandez

  14. David Archuleta

  15. Kristy Lee Cook

Once you've seen all the performances feel free to rate your top performances, argue our choices, or generally discuss the show.

David Hernandez's story about working in a pizza joint was pretty humorous given that he was a male stripper in a gay strip club right before auditioning. His performance bodes well for a quick return to the stripper pole. Most people's pick to waltz his way to the title David Archuleta, was saved from producing the bomb of the night only by a truly horrifying Kristy Lee Cook performance. She's going to need to go the wardrobe malfunction route pronto if she wants to hang around...

I liked that David Archuleta after he did "Imagine"... Hope he hangs in there.

Just watched Carly Smithson out here on the West coast... have to concur... pretty awesome.

I agree with your top three Kevin. They were awesome and have been the most consistent contestants.

Amanda Overmyer and Michael Johns can stay, everyone else go home.

Wow! Agreed with all 12 of your placements on tonight's performance. That said, I just don't like to watch Carly Smithson sing--great voice--but I don't like her performance appearance/style.

Not sure what Amanda is trying to do with the skunk stripe (a la Alexandra from Josie and the Pussycats), but she can sing the blues/rock/soul songs.

Smithson, Cook, and White will all be successful.

I get dragged into watching this stuff against my will, but it does seem the talent pool is of much higher quality this year, especially at the top. I suspect Idol is now seen (correctly) as a quick path to stardom and is attracting more real talent.

I agree with the picks. The talent pool is deeper this year. I am having a hard time picking a personal favorite. I believe the last three listed should go in the next three weeks. ww

For just last night that's pretty close to the way I see.

Overall Archuleta showed some weakness and the for the 'boys' he isn't just going to walk away with it. I favor Jason Castro as the 'dark horse' though David Cook or Michael Johns are also showing some promise.

Brooke and Carly are definitely the strongest all around 'girl' performers. I like Amanda, but don't think she can win.

As a side note, When I see Jason, I see some resemblance to John Travolta in his eyes and smile, that may carry him more than you might think.

I'm not a fan, but Chikezie really brought it this week. He was the only one that brought the roof down. Man, watching the 12 year old (or whatever he is) forget a bunch of lyrics was pretty bad.

Chikezie set the bar high and early. I didn't see anyone make it over.

ClobberGirl:

I cannot stand Carly Smithson or Hennessy or whatever her name is; the arm tattoo is awful and her arm is way too flabby to be showing it off. Neither her nor any performer who has already released an album on an established record label ought to be allowed on the show--and this season's top 12 is full of established performers who had their chance at fame but failed. Guess the days when the show truly sought to promote undiscovered talent are gone.

You may want to read what VoteForTheWorst has to say about this season's top 12, and consider whether or not you want to vote for someone who was hand-picked by the producers to win:

One of the plants may win the show, but I promise you won't be hearing their music on the radio for very long. People didn't want to hear them the first time around, they won't want to hear them this time either.

The problem, ClobberGirl, i... (Below threshold)

The problem, ClobberGirl, is that there isn't any undiscovered talent left. These retreads are the best of what they found, and they're not very good.
