It is one prong of a well-designed strategy of the Hillary campaign. Between now and the PA primary, she is preparing to dismantle Obama piece by piece. First, she used Ferraro to gin up the race issue, with the obvious motivation of driving up her margins among white voters. Second, she is going to tie Obama with his church and his pastor. As Mickey Kaus in Slate points out, she is going for the "Jessie-fication of Obama".

I think Sam has a point. Ferraro baited Obama to condemn her and demand an apology from Hillary. Now what is Obama going to say about his pastor and mentor for 20 years? Why is he willing to subject his wife and kids to this hate-filled preaching for all these years?

I agree it is pretty shitty when someone who has literally not managerial experience and very little government experience. Gets a free pass from the media, so far, and has lived on the empty promise of change and hope with no definition of what to change or hope for, gets to run for President. The Reverend Wright announced his retirement from the church, and it will not become effective until May of 2008. He's not gone yet. He's still there at the church, and he's still on the Obama campaign. He held his last sermon Sunday, February 10th.
