  • Pandora's Box Memo To Clear-Eyed Budgeteers: The Clinton Era Was An Anomaly. If President Bush's 2007 defense spending had matched the same share of the economy as President Clinton's did, last year's budget essentially would have balanced. (Via IBD)

  • No Earmarks! Whatever shall they do? WASHINGTON -- Legislation that would place a one-year moratorium on congressional "earmarks" is getting a chilly response from Maine's delegation. Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican, and Rep. Michael Michaud, a Democrat, said they would oppose a ban on the practice that allows lawmakers to direct federal spending to local projects. (Via Slublog)

  • Cut the tax cuts, reap what you sow Obama and Clinton both promise to reverse Bush's tax cuts for wealthier taxpayers, but the Democratic budget they'll be voting for would allow income tax rates to go up on individuals making as little as $31,850 and couples earning $63,700 or more. Update

My sons (both of them) had a blast at young marine bootcamp. They're 9 and 11. You'd thought they'd won the lottery the way the were carrying on demonstrating everything they were taught. Wonder how long I can get them to just stand at attention?
