I do wonder what this criminal will say to his schoolmates(Assuming Mr. Gant is even in school) after they read or hear of this story.
ST. PETERSBURG - Police chased a car Thursday night, hours after two people stole it from a 60-year-old man who had just pulled into his driveway, authorities said.16-year-olds trying to impersonate 3rd graders. Don't you just love the Sunshine State?Maurice Gant, 16, and Dealtae Franklin, 16, were arrested after the chase, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman George Kajtsa.
Gant apparently told police he was a third-grade student at Maximo Elementary School, and at least one St. Petersburg police officer noted that as his status in official police documents. But Andrea Zahn, spokeswoman for Pinellas County schools, said Gant is not in the system.
Gant was charged with carjacking, possession of cocaine, attempted felony murder of a law enforcement officer and residential burglary, Kajtsa said.
Franklin, who is listed in police reports as a ninth-grader at Boca Ciega High School, is charged with residential burglary, Kajtsa said.
I'm a little surprised the Tampa Tribune not just named the two suspected teens but also published a photo of Gant. The media more often than not withholds the names of minors to protect them. Even when the teen(s) commit heinous crimes that clearly show the youth to be a danger to society.
The details of the carjacking are below the fold.
At 2:25 p.m. Thursday, the 60-year-old man pulled into his driveway in the 900 block of Live Oak Terrace Northeast in a 2007 Nissan Maxima, Kajtsa said. A car that is said to have been following him drove up on his lawn, Kajtsa said.
In it were Gant, who was driving, and Franklin, Kajtsa said. They asked for directions and then for water before they hit the man twice on the head, knocked him down and took his keys from his pocket, Kajtsa said.
A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter and St. Petersburg police found and tracked the Maxima before a pursuit was authorized, Kajtsa said. Gant rammed a police cruiser during the pursuit, which led to the attempted felony murder charge, Kajtsa said.
The Maxima eventually wrecked or stopped, and both youths were arrested after they were seen running into a house in the 4000 block of 13th Avenue South, Kajtsa said.

Given the level of stupidity displayed I have no trouble believing they've been held back to the third grade.

Well, I'm glad to see 'social promotions' are becoming less popular.

Poor guys, just two more victims of the American legal system, out to put young black males in prison. Wonder what the good Reverend Wright would have to say about this. Probably something along the lines that the 60 year old somehow entrapped them?
