With the big Idol Gives Back show running tomorrow American Idol was all about inspriational songs this week, with Idols getting a chance to pick their favorite inspriational tunes. Here's our breakdown*** of the top eight performances.
- The Top Five
- David Archuleta
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Jason Castro
- Brooke White
- Michael Johns
- Carly Smithson
- Syesha Mercado
- David Cook
The Bottom Three
As much as I wasn't really feeling Jason Castro's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" I have to guess that teenage girls all over the country were. None of the top five really knocked it out of the park, but there seemed to be a clear difference (mostly attributed to good song choice) between the top and bottom of the five. In the bottom three are three strong singers who stumbled due to song choice. David Cook's song was a mess, Carly Smithson didn't make anyone forget Freddie Mercury, and Syesha Mercado didn't even hold a candle to Fantasia. While it's entirely possible that Kristie, Brooke, or Jason may end up in the bottom three on the show, we're betting that is comes down to Syesha and Carly with Syesha going home.
Here's our running tally of where the Idols stand for the entire season. Little David Archuleta moves back on top and Carly free falls... The ratings (completely unscientific) are weighted toward the most recent performances (using the "what have you done for me lately" principle) but reflect the entire season of song choices and connection with the voting public.
- David Archuleta
- David Cook
- Brooke White
- Jason Castro
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Carly Smithson
- Michael Johns
- Syesha Mercado
And, as always, we offer up the embarrassing Idol picture of the week:

A little disagreement with you this week but your bottom three I think are spot on.
I'd rate the top 5 like this:
Jason Castro
Michael Johns
David Archuleta
Christy Lee Cook
Brooke White
But again, I think your bottom three are perfect but perhaps not in that order, don't think two of those three will be going home.

Other than Archuleta being safe, its anyones bet as to the bottom three. Its getting to the point where voter loyalty will start to kick in and drive things regardless of the 'last' performance.
I don't think Syesha will dissappear just yet, maybe is Michael's or Carly's time to go.
I like Jason, but being limited by his 'style' I doubt he can make it past 5th or 6th without near perfect song selection.
That's funny... I agree with Baggi, I think two of those three won't be going home either... ;)2. Posted by rodney dill | April 9, 2008 6:18 AM |

Didn't they not boot anybody during American Idol gives back week? If memory serves, they did a double whacking the following week so as not break the "mood" for charity week.
My bet is therefore that nobody goes home this week.

They've already scheduled the Idol Gives Back show into the works for tonight, but the results show is Thursday. So no one goes home tonight... but tomorrow...

I can only "watch" the shows on YouTube. I just find David A. annoying, haven't been able to get through an entire song of his yet. I like David Cook, but you're right, last night was a wreck. I was ready to like Jason's song before he sang it. Anyone who will do a Bruddah Iz arrangement is okay with me. My wife and I fell in love with his music when we lived in Hawaii and it hasn't faded.
TWP (formerly PL), lighten up Francis.

"Who cares?"
Was that a liberal? Conservatives know how to really have fun, right?
I have to give the stoner his due....he was one of the best.
David Cook.....I love ya dude, but what's with the dinner jacket and the horrible song choice?
Brooke is a sweetie but she keeps mailing in mundane performances.
Michael is the real deal, even if he just mimicked Steve Tyler.....I think he has the real star quality, along with DC.
Christy Lee is making wise choices which shows you lesser talent can perform better than bigger talent.
David A.....sorry, he just looks like a 5th grader who could headline for Hannah Montana. Nice kid but kinda gives me the creeps.
Judges need to knock off saying "the best talent ever."

Usually insecure people resort to gratuitous name calling, formerly PL now K/A TWP.
Speaking of vacuous entertainment, some of us need some relief from this endless election cycle......so we watch AI and your form of entertainment is to post like an angry left wing blogger.
I'd avoid the Idol thread if it made me so miserable I had to make enemies behind the veil of a keyboard.
Bless you brother.

Nothing personal here, for the record. Didn't mean to imply you WERE a left winger.....I just look at the lefty blogs and can't get over how they savage each other. This election is just soooo dumb, even to a news junkie like me.

Sorry, but I agree with Typical White Person(formerly Pretzel_Logic) on this one. At least put in on Wizbang Pop. When I read about celebrities on this page, unless it's something severe like Patrick Swayze's illness, I feel like I'm on an entertainment/gossip site.
