What's Arabic For "Chutzpah?"

"Chutzpah" is one of those words that's hard to define in a single English word. It's nerve, it's gall, it's effrontery, it's ballsiness, it's audacity -- and not strictly any one of those things. The classic definition of chutzpah is the man who's been convicted of murdering his parents asking for mercy from the court because he's an orphan.

Well, among all the other things the Palestinians have attempted to steal from the Jews (along with the Temple Mount, the term "holocaust," the land of Israel, and so on), it seems now they're making a move on that term.

There is considerable hue and cry right now about the poor starving and freezing Palestinians because Israel has shut down fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip. Why, it's downright appalling, this form of collective punishment.

Until you dig a little deeper into the full story.

All of the fuel that Israel transfers to Gaza goes through Nahal Oz. And just last week, Palestinian terrorists attacked through that terminal.

So Israel decides to shut it down until they can improve security -- no sense having workers there at risk, or the whole place getting blown up, right?

Cue the howls of protest.

Then others start talking about how quickly Gaza starts running out of fuel. That's when people start taking a closer look at just how fuel gets into Gaza, and quite a few things are revealed -- the kinds of things that should get a LOT of attention.

First up, Hamas basically skims off about half of all fuel that enters Gaza for its own use.

Next, we learn that the Palestinian distributor is the one who ordered an immediate halt to the distribution, because he's worried about being able to replenish his stocks.

Which are full.

Which means that even if Israel were to turn the flow of fuel back on, there'd be nowhere to put it.

So, essentially, the Palestinians attack the fuel terminal that supplies them with the fuel (half of which gets shanghaied into terrorism support), then complain when Israel shuts down the terminal, then demands the fuel be turned back on when they have nowhere to put it.

And, of course, this is all Israel's fault. As usual.

This is so far beyond "biting the hand that feeds you" that we might have to invent a whole new term for it.

(Hat tip: Meryl Yourish, who -- as usual -- is the go-to person for stuff like this.)

I have come to the conclusion that it is clear the Palestinians do need their own homeland. This should be taken care of with great expediency. The reason? Unlike the Jews in their homeland of Israel, once the Palestinians are forced to become responsible for themselves they will quickly become extinct by their own lack of any skills that would contribute to their survival as a society.

Yeah, you might be right, Puckhead. Tell me a bit about historic Palestine that was stolen by the Jews. Tell me about their system of government. Name some of their rulers. Describe their relations with other nations and peoples.

Shit, just tell me what they called their currency. That can't be too tough for such a devoted scholar of Palestinian history (and other fables for the weak-minded).

Lemme head off your likely next question, Puckhead. No, I'm not Jewish. Just your garden-variety raised-Methodist-but-confirmed agnostic Zionist with neocon leanings and a healthy dose of contempt for those who deserve it -- like yourself.

Europe stole the land from the Romans. Romans stole the land from Egypt. Alexander the Great stole the lands from a lot of people. On and on it goes for a poor argument.

Israel has its' problems but the palestinians are the cause of their own problems. If you could put your hatred of jews aside for a minute, you will find JT's post is right on the money. ww

Actually the Arabs have systematically usurped the "Palestinians" citizenship in their native Arab lands with the bogus promise of resettlement in real estate known as Israel. Of course that would be once they exterminate the Jews from the land of Allah.
There are many objective and scholarly books that tell the truth about the Arab's bigotry and treachery concerning the Palestinians plight. In fact, many who remember the late 1940's will admit Israel was a more benevolent caretaker than states like Jordan who massacred these unwanted pariahs of Arab society.
Of course Israel's enemies choose to be as illiterate about REAL history as the Palestinians choose to be about everything but brainwashing babies to grow up and kill Jews.

Dave D's right about the likely outcome of their autonomy.

And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.
Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

Closest equivalent for 'chutz'pah in Arabic would be "wa'aha".

As for a "Palestinian homeland" even if you ignore the concept of political boundaries and just used the anecdotal ones about 70% of it would come from current day Jordan and not Israel.

The fact is Arabs have long treated the Palestinians much like the Europeans treated the Gypsies. For the Arabs they are a convenient excuse to use against the Jews and nothing more. People always mention the number of Palestinians "ejected" and "made refugees" by Israel while conveniently ignoring the fact the surrounding Arab countries evicted twice as many into the same refugee camps.

Also, those like Puck like to ignore the shining example of the Palestinian run Gaza as to what a "state" would end looking like.

I don't think Farakan could have said it better.
So let me get this nyuck, nyuck characterization of pro- "Palestinian" advocates.....they oppose slavery and rape? Oh man what a hoot. Even leftist human rights groups recognize that rape and slavery of Arab women, especially Palestinians, is chronic.

Hey it's a Jewish book. What better source? Besides - not all Jews are angry, raging Zionists. Jay Tea, Allan Dershowitz, and Rev John Hagee are in a category all their own.

Just don't tell me it was an empty land on whom nobody lived till the Jews came there. Because people who say that are racist.

I want a place for Jews too - just as most Jews want a place for us Americans - a place with open borders that reflects the ethnic and religious makeup of the region (correct me if I'm wrong Jay - that is what you want for America - right?)

Tell me, Puckhead -- would you rather be a Jew under a Palestinian government, or a Palestinian under a Jewish government?

Trick question: there ARE no Jews under a Palestinian government. Gaza was rendered properly Judenrein, and they're working on the rest.

But back to your list: "the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites..." funny, I don't see "Palestinians" in that list anywhere.

In an article posted December 7, 2007, on the leftist website www.ahewar.org, 'Aref 'Alwan, an Iraqi author and playwright who resides in London and is the author of 12 novels, states that the Jews have an historic right to Palestine because their presence there preceded the Arab conquest and has continued to this day.

Jay, everyone, you are wasting your time and energy. The guy is an unrepentant anti-Semite. He's a Ron Paulis, a Buchananite, and he quotes the deeply anti-Semitic, Holocaust-denying site Institute for Historical Review. In fact, Puck's a Holocaust denier too, I'm thinking.

He can't talk about anything without resorting to slams on Jews. Check out his review of "Inherit the Wind" and see if something smells about the way he mentions the author's name:

I want to add that Inherit the Wind is bad drama. The movie is OK because of the superlative acting of Spencer Tracy and Frederick March. But the script by Jerome Lawrence (born Jerome Schwartz) is weak and the play is bad. I've seen it. It would not have survived had it not been for the satisfaction it gives to a certain American class of intellectuals who need to hate American gentiles and find in the primitive faith of middle American protestantism the perfect target.

Gee. He could get a little more obvious, but I don't see how.

I wouldn't waste another bit responding to him, Jay. He's an old-fashioned Jew-hater, plain and simple.
