The U.S. is a nation of laws with a government elected from the people by the people. In any society ruled by majority vote there can be a large number of people who don't agree with who gets elected. Even those who voted for a particular President don't agree with everything that President has done or proposes, yet they are elected according to law and it's that person who speaks as the President and no one else. If the President breaks the law then it's the duty of Congress to impeach that President. If Congress doesn't impeach them then it's meaningless within the context of the law to claim the President has broken the law.

The question is, do you have a better form of government that you want to propose? If not, then young people who join the military are serving the nation regardless of weather or not you or anyone else disagrees with what the President is doing with them.

Without young people to defend this nation we would have to take an aggressor's hits or use our nuclear weapons. I know there are lots of liberals who would like to see the U.S. destroyed, but there's a great risk that we would use our nuclear weapons in a last act that could destroy most life on earth. Is that what you want? If not, then you should be glad there are young people willing to defend this nation. Only idiots would hold these young people responsible for performing their lawful duties given them by the President of a nation of laws.

The idea of a nation of laws was once considered a progressive idea, but it seems progressives are now having second thoughts.

Well there are lots of people who disagree with me; that's nothing new. The point here is this Murphy fellow is attacking people who serve this nation and he's trying to sway public opinion against them; why else post it to a blog? Sorry, but there are lots of veterans who simply won't stand by when individuals and their families are being attacked for serving in the military.

If it's ok for anti-war types to protest in front of recruiting stations, then it's ok for veterans to protest in front of places where anti-war types brew their poison. Like the vast majority of veterans, I've never protested anything, but nothing will get me out on the street faster than anti-war types attacking individuals serving in our military.

You can be against the war and talk nasty about Bush all you want, but when you go after kids serving in the military you can expect to be gotten after by their brother in arms, their dads and their uncles. That's a line not to be crossed lightly.

Using their publicly available information, which they know is public, may lead to a better way of sending messages such as a letter or a phone call. Well our troops have been collectively referred to as "boys" in song and in the press going back decades. Being the military now included "girls" near combat if not in it, and being the term "boys" has racial connotations, it's best to use "kids" as a collective term of fondness for the troops. Besides, every dad who has sons or daughters in the military refers to them as kids no matter how old they are.
