Law & Order Update

Click the below link if you'd like to read about some recent crime & punishment news stories: A left-wing enviro-nut getting 20 years in the clink, an Alaska Republican legislator sentenced to prison for corruption, an illegal immigrant 'coyote' receiving life imprisonment for homicide, and that ongoing late-term abortion criminal case in Kansas.

Left-Wing Enviro-Terrorist Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

A California man who was a member of a left-wing enviro-terrorist organization and who was convicted by a jury for plotting to blow up a federal forestry site, among other targets, was sentenced on Thursday to nearly 20 years in federal prison.

Ah, yes, leftists are real cute when their ingrained mental disorders take the form of actions and not merely words, eh?

Here's a link to Reuters' whitewashed report.

Alaska Republican Sentenced to Prison For Bribery

A Republican former state representative in Alaska who was convicted of taking bribes to push legislation for a major natural gas pipeline was sentenced Thursday to 3 1/2 years in federal prison.

I don't know what's in the water up there in Alaska. Between those VECO miscreants in the state legislature and Ted ("Pork Barrel") Stevens' entanglements and Frank Murkowski's foibles, etc., man alive, the local GOP is becoming, well, almost Democrat in terms of systematic corruption. Someone grab a broom, please.

Illegal Migrant Smuggler Gets Life in Prison for Deadly Crash

A Mexican smuggler responsible for an accident that killed 10 illegal immigrants in the Arizona desert two years ago was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison.

Adan Pineda-Doval, 22, received the maximum sentence from Judge Stephen McNamee for the deadly incident in which he flipped over a vehicle packed with illegal immigrants while trying to flee Border Patrol agents near Yuma, Arizona.

In October, Pineda-Doval was convicted of 10 counts of transporting illegal immigrants resulting in death, one count of placing lives in jeopardy and one count of illegal re-entry after deportation.

That should send a pretty strong message to those who facilitate illegal immigration, shouldn't it?

Here's a link to Reuters' full report.

Kudos to local law enforcement agents and to the local federal prosecutor's office. BTW, the judge who meted out that maximum sentenced was nominated in 1990 by George H.W. Bush and still is young enough to serve for another decade or more to come. That's true, Ross Perot, there are no term limits on federal judges.

Kansas Supreme Court Upholds Law That Allowed Prosecution for Late-Term Abortions, sets guidelines balancing privacy rights of patients with investigatory powers of grand jury

In connection with an ongoing investigation into whether a local physician violated state laws barring late-term abortions, the Kansas Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a separate state law that allows citizens to convene prosecutorial grand juries, but the court set limits on the grand jury's investigatory powers in order to strike a balance between law enforcement and patients' privacy rights.

Here's a link to the AP's version of events.

For obvious reasons the media's version of that case is couched in different terms and is presented in such a way as to effectuate its liberal agenda. If you read the entire article and filter out the author's and editor's biases, however, the crux of the story comes into clear focus.

Obviously that case is a hot-button item because it involves late-term abortions. Even in the abstract, however, it's an interesting case. There are competing and legitimate concerns. The will of the people for citizen-based law enforcement. The need to acknowledge and protect medical privacy rights. The proper administration of justice. Definitely food for thought.
