Forget questioning their patriotism, I question their sanity

It would be really easy to question the patriotism of the person making this statement, but darned if I can get past questioning their sanity (via Ace).

Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn't happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn't accomplish its goal.

And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians.

I would love to dismiss the statement above as yet another absurd comment from yet another anti-war, anti-troop whiner grasping at any explanation, regardless how ridiculous, to diminish the success of American troops in Iraq. I would love to just completely ignore it, but since the statement is from the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, that is hard to do. The comment leaves me both outraged and incredulous. When I consider the very real possibility that Pelosi and those who think like her could control all branches of government beginning in 2009, including foreign policy and national defense, I am horrified.

Update: Regarding the horrifying possibility I mentioned above, this is a good article about watching which way NC goes to see how the political winds will be blowing in November.

Update II: From See-Dubya:

Like my ol' Uncle Pappy always told me, See-Dubya, you keep pumping that there botulinum toxin into your face to maintain its youthful appearance like that, an' one day your brain's going to freeze and you'll be incapable of doing anything but spouting appeasement-monkey pro-jihadist propaganda and denigrating the heroic accomplishments of our troops.

Sister Toldjah points to this as just the latest example of why Democrats can't be trusted to lead the war on terror.

Update III: Steve Schippert provides audio of the Pelosi interview along with great commentary.

Does it really surprise you that the democrats are suffering BDS to such degree that they are insane enough to give a terrorist state credit for winning a war that was won by the fine men and women of the United States Military? Doesn't surprise me at all from watching the American Communist Party, aka democrats, the past seven years. They would destroy this country and get millions killed to soothe their wounded ego's. They have done everything but provide guns and ammo to the enemy and I'm not sure they haven't been doing that through Moron.org and Soros.

Believe it or not, it does surprise me. I know it shouldn't, but just when I think I have heard it all they come up with something like this that puts my jaw on the floor. I think I am most surprised that they say these things out loud. That they then get away with such comments by getting a pass from the media, sadly, does not surprise me in the least.

The goal is control. With PC, they've attempted to control how people think and speak. They try hard to control how the world is perceived - thinking reality will fit their narrative.

Now, we're seeing an attempt to weaken the credibility of the US military. I sometimes think their preferred military model is that of the Army right after Viet Nam - riddled with incompetent units, drug-infested, with supply shortages that kept meaningful training from being accomplished.

(You see that with the occasional proposal for a draft, getting in hundreds of thousands of people who DO NOT want to be there would certainly do wonders for military effectiveness!)

They fear competency in the physical world, preferring instead to control the discourse in the intellectual world.

So now that it looks like the US military has done what they said couldn't be done - indeed, they were urging a belly-up surrender not very long ago - it's not surprising they're trying to find ANY possible reason to deny the victory.

I think perhaps you have this Pelosi "thing" backwards.

We should all be thanking the Speaker for her honest appraisal that progress in Iraq would have been further along had it not been for the interference of the Iranians in the internal affairs of Iraq.

She could have claimed it was the corruption or the inability of the Iraqis to get their house in order, but rather she pinpoints the long term problem .. the Iranians .. who are the major troublemakers in, not just in Iraq, but the entire region.

My hat is off the the Speaker for her wisdom.

I know it's all the rage for left-leaning folks to claim Bush is the "Worst President Ever". Then how does one describe Pelosi's term as speaker? F2F meeting with Baby Assad shortly before a Syrian nuke facility is destroyed, incompetent leadership in the house, failure to stop the war (the supposed tidal wave upon which the Dems swept to power), and now fealty to the Mullahs. There's no other way to say it: what a cunt.

Much like Harry Reid's proclamation that the surge worked, not because of the surge, but in spite of it. As if the Iraqi people who finally stood up against those who were destroying their neighborhoods and villages would (or even could) have done so without the US military to back them up.

This is such a jaw dropping insult to our military. Ms. Pelosi needs to think about whose side she is really on-America's or terrorists'. Unfortunately, a)That would require her to think and b)I suspect we already know the answer.

I always wondered how the Dems would handle/spin success in Iraq. I always assumed that they'd wait to gain power and then claim credit for salvaging "Bush's incompetent conduct of the war".
Perhaps they'll still do that if, God forbid, Obama wins. But should we really be shocked anymore by the treasonous rhetoric of the left, even the lefties who hold positions of power and, consequently, the responsibilities that go with it? The same leadership that compares US Marines to Nazis and believe and promote the worst propaganda against our troops and president?
After all, these are the same slugs who believe that it was the kind heart of Mikhail Gorbachev that brought the Cold War to an end.

It's up to us to hold these people to account. God help us.

This statement of hers manages to slap our military even as it embraces the Iranians.
