Terrorized

Barack Obama speaking to the National Council of La Raza

When communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids, when nursing mothers are torn from their babies, when children come home from school to find their parents missing, when people are detained without access to legal counsel, when all that is happening, the system just isn't working, and we need to change it.
Ed Morrissey at Hotair then writes-
So now the US government is a terrorist organization? Not only does this demonstrate his demagoguery on immigration, it also shows his cluelessness in the war on terrorists. If he can't tell the difference between al-Qaeda and ICE, then not only should he not be President, but Illinois needs to answer for his selection as a Senator.
I think Ed is overstating the use of the word terrorize. Terrorize isn't just for use as in terrorist attacks, but for situations where people are frightened or scared.

A yahoo news I conducted using the word terrorize finds examples such of tbese-

'Thugs' terrorize blind woman in her apartment, police say

and

Dogs terrorize neighborhood

Bagel-Snatching Craft Services Bandits Terrorize Sony Lot

Dogs in Port Richey and people who take food they aren't supposed to on at a entertainment studio must not like being associated with al-Qaeda. Maybe they can sue the members of the MSM who libeled them.

Another thing Ed wrote-

I missed a news story, ICE agents do not tear babies from nursing mothers' breasts. Does Obama have a citation for that, or does he just feel like lying to people to make ICE agents sound like Nazi brownshirts?
They don't? A google search I conducted using the words 'nursing mothers ICE' found the following article.
Federal immigration agents were searching a house in Ohio last month when they found a young Honduran woman nursing her baby.

The woman, Saída Umanzor, is an illegal immigrant and was taken to jail to await deportation. Her 9-month-old daughter, Brittney Bejarano, who was born in the United States and is a citizen, was put in the care of social workers.

A google search for 'breastfeeding mothers ICE' found a followup article to the above.

CLEVELAND: U.S. immigration officials said they have enacted a new policy to show greater consideration for breast-feeding mothers, days after authorities arrested a Honduran woman in Ohio on an immigration violation and separated her from her crying baby.

Sayda Umanzor, 27, admitted to being in the United States illegally when sheriff's deputies and federal agents knocked on the door of a house in Conneaut, Ohio, on Oct. 26.

Umanzor was breast-feeding her 9-month-old daughter, Brittany, at the time, and the baby cried as her parents were led away.

On reading those articles, I think i've given some slight basis for anyone to compare ICE's tactics to Nazi brownshirts. Ed asked for citations, and I got them in exactly two google searches.

I believe in deporting illegal aliens, at the same time I strongly believe they have a right to be treated humanely during the process. Also I will note by taking out the safeguards of allowing people accused of being illegal from having legal representation, you're opening up the possibility of legal aliens and US citizens being deported or coming dangerously close to it. It has happened, click here and here.

I'm a registered Democrat, but as I've declared at least once on this blog, I have no intention of voting for Obama in November. Obama doesn't impress me in the slightest, he could be another Jimmy Carter Some people who dislike Obama so much see a need to put his words and actions in the worst possible light. If this is meant to convince people Obama isn't someone to vote as our next President, Ed or other who use such examples fail badly. If Ed or any blogger is just directing this towards a certain group of readers who want to read disinformation, you have to wonder if their views are authentic or just a means to get readers.

Update- Isn't this freaky. Now Cassy comes along posting on the same Obama speech, quoting the same blogger, but taking the opposite viewpoint of my own.

In honor of this occassion I herby present this.

Differing viewpoints at the same blog. Crossfire lives at Wizbang I guess, and isn't it wonderful? Isn't this a great blog or what?

No if. Since.

Awww, come on Bill. Didn't you get the memo? Al Queda doesn't have terrorists. They are insurgents, millitants, rebels, and/or freedom fighters.

The word "terror" and all it's derivitive forms is just democrat code-speak for stuff 'rethugricans' do.

(I do agree with your point however - I'm just pointing out the hypocracy of the lefts view of anything terror related).

Bill, I for one do not want to design a system or process that is based on trying to stop mistakes from happening. It is impossible and will only make matters worse for the ICE agents. I do not think anyone is treated inhumanely. That is an overused word in the vain of racist, liar, etc. ww

While I wouldn't have gone as far as Ed did in his portrayal of what Obama said, the whole "terrorized communities" rhetoric is over the top too. Yes, I too believe that ICE officials could be far more sensitive and treat people with the human decency we all deserve, but immigration officials showing up at a construction site or hotel and half of the workers fleeing because they're here illegally is exactly the sort of thing that many consider "terrorizing the community". "They live in terror." No. They're afraid of getting caught.

Then I guess you're not in favor of a trial, jury etc. By allowing people taken into custody is the same thing, the right to prove themselves not guilty of being an illegal alien. Not everyone is, nor is everyone arrested guilty of the crime they are being accused of.

Safeguards are needed.

Bill,your citation... (Below threshold)
Jeff:

Bill,

your citation of "nursing mothers being torn away from their babies" is alittle weak on the torn away. She got arrested and anytime a single mother gets arrested they take the child into child protective services. So arresting the mother in that case is the same as nazi brown shirts in your reading.

Please go back to posting on Wizbang Blue, they are bright enough there to think you have a point ...

Jeff,

If you cared to notice, I linked to an article that reported just that. The ICE change of policy doesn't change what they did in at least one mother's case. Sorry for not giving an opinion you agree with.

I really hate it when you get on these contrarian jags and dump your load of garbage on people trying to make a valid point. When you are in that mode you make me cringe like I do when Alan Colmes is trying to keep a straight face while sputtering what he knows is nonsense.

I have to think for some on... (Below threshold)
Knightbrigade:

I have to think for some one who AGREES with deportation, siding with NObama on this issue doesn't make sense.
ICE does their JOB, how they do that job is NOT as important as the fact that they SUCCEED in that job. Yes...lets treat people with respect etc, etc, but lets NOT get trapped into agreeing with those who would like to take this perspective to see ICE fail in general.

Playing with the word "terrorize"----I wake up every day terrorized by the thought "What are libtards going to screw up today".....see I'm a "victim" too

Its a lie that illegals do ... (Below threshold)
Baggi:

Its a lie that illegals do not get legal representation. If not a lie, it is at least disengenous.

They are allowed to have legal representation but the key here is that it is, "At their own expense". In other words, the rest of us get free legal council if we want it, illegals have to pay for it on their own.

Do we really want to start paying for illegals to have lawyers in this country? I don't.
