I love stories about Hollywood conservatives. I guess it is because I am such a big television and movie fan and hate to think of the money I contribute to the industry through ticket sales ending up as donations to liberal politicians. I enjoyed reading the list of those expected to attend an event for John McCain next week.
As Democrats celebrate in Denver next week, Republican presumptive presidential nominee Sen. John McCain will be trying to fire up some star power of his own by collecting checks and support from conservatives in Hollywood.Mr. McCain will attend a fundraiser at the Beverly Hilton on Monday, the day the Democrats' convention opens, bringing together top leaders from the Los Angeles business and entertainment communities, according to an invitation for the event obtained by The Washington Times.
Show business publication Variety reported that Angie Harmon, David Zucker, Jon Cryer, Lionel Chetwynd, Craig T. Nelson, Jon Voight, Craig Haffner and Robert Duvall are among those expected to attend.
For more on conservatives in Hollywood, read John Nolte's piece on David Zucker's upcoming An American Carol movie. More on conservative Hollywood at Dirty Harry's Place and at Libertas (now on hiatus, but there is still plenty of current stuff there to check out).

Maybe next we'll be able to get a group of obese welfare recipients that support McCain as well.

I'm sorry, I admit that the above may have been a little on the insensitive side. But when a group that is 99%-plus for Obama has some showing up for McCain, it is heartening.
Let's change "obse welfare recipients" to "terrorist muslims" on that outside chance that there may be a few loco terrorists that don't worship Obama (we know that straight thinking terrorists will go for the Obamassiah).

Wow. You must truly see the entire world through the prism of politics. That's kinda sad.
On the other hand, Lionel Chetwynd and Craig Haffner? No way! The only star bigger than they are is Jon Cryer. He's gonna be there too? OMG!

Funny thing Lorie, I was also thinking about Hollywood celebrities and the 2008 election and I'm planning to pen a piece in a few days on my two blogs about which celebrity supports who and which Clinton backers such as Markie Post have so far not given to Obama, but I'm still doing research on the donations. There is also one large celebrity Clinton backer who is now giving to McCain. But you'll have to read my piece to find out who.
Interestingly, David Letterman made a large gift to the Al Franken Campaign, but only because he is a friend. Canadian-born Paul Shaffer made a decent contribution to a Republican campaign in the past, but has not donated anything of note recently.
It promise it will be a fun a piece and I'll try to balance it out so everyone can enjoy it regardless of their views. I just want the piece to be cool to read and not preach to anyone.

Angie Harmon is indeed a major babe and a great actress. I really miss the WOMEN"S MURDER CLUB that ABC cancelled that she was in. That was a half decent show. I sort of like Markie Post who is 57 a lot myself, but Marg Helgenberger from CSI is another fine lady who is 49. Both are proof positive that some very fine older ladies certainly exist. I don't quite get it. Are those saying they don't know who these people are trying to make the point that there are not as many big name Hollywood types that are conservative? Duh. That is the point! They are a small group of people who risk their careers by even admitting they are Republicans. I repeat. That was the point of the post. Seeing a bunch of people in Hollywood gathering to support a Republican is so rare that it is newsworthy.
As for those bizarrely going on about their ignorance of who people like Lionel Chetwynd are, there is this really cool site called IMDB and you can look them up there. I had heard Chetwynd's name, but didn't know that he was an Oscar and Emmy nominated writer and director, but it only took about 20 seconds to look him up. I had not heard of Haffner either, but looked him up and he has been nominated for two prime time Emmy awards and appears to have a long list of credits producing shows for The History Channel and others. This internet is such a nifty little tool.
I knew Angie Harmon because I have seen just about every episode of Law & Order ever made. Zucker has been all over t.v. and the internet just recently promoting An American Carol. I think most everyone knows who Craig T. Nelson (Coach) and Robert Duvall are, but maybe not. I watch a lot of tv and see a lot of movies so mayber they are not as well known as I think.
I used to point to John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston and Bob Hope and say it wasn't the quantity of celebrities on your side, but the quality. Unfortunately they are no longer with us, but there are still some good conservative actors around.
