You stay classy, Pioneer Pelosi:
House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of "Drill here! Drill now!"Pelosi paused and asked the group, "Right here?"
Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: "Can we drill your brains?"
She went on to refer to the protesters, who continued to chant sporadically, as "handmaidens of Big Oil." Arguing that increased offshore drilling would reduce gas prices by only a couple of pennies a decade from now, she referred to the demonstrators as the "2-cents-in-10-years-crowd."
Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer swiped at the demonstrators, too, saying that "sophomoric chanting" won't solve the energy crisis and that "all thinking Americans know" -- stressing the word "thinking" and looking at the crowd -- that America doesn't have a quarter of the word's fossil fuels yet uses a quarter of the world's energy.
When you don't have anything intelligent to add, what do you do? Name call and use insults, the preferred tactics of liberals everywhere!

Actually, probable reserves (minus the US) are around a trillion barrels. Estimated US reserves in the arctic, oil shale, and the OCS are, also, one trillion barrels. But, no, if we don't actually drill for it then, logically, we cannot drill out way to more supplies.

Regardless of price every barrel of oil we produce domestically is one less barrel we have to pay some foreign government for, you know, like Russia. Also, the democrats have been making the same no benefit for 10 years argument for 30 years! That argument was wrong 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago and it's still wrong. It's time to move past the failed obstructionist energy policies of the Democrats, it's time for change.
And "all thinking Americans know" we have do a lot more than drilling wherever there's oil, but we do have to do the drilling. We also have to put new nuclear power plants on the fast track, we have to develop wind and solar energy. We have transform our passenger transportation to electric or hybrid vehicles. However, the first thing we have to do to move forward is vote out the obstructionists.
Actually, I'm glad the democrats are falling on their swords kowtowing to the environmentalists over drilling and nuclear power. BTW, there's a wakeup call coming and it's name is Gustav.

Really? So the oil companies have agreed to bypass the open market and sell all of their oil directly to the US?

Why not, didn't all that sophomoric chanting about "global warming" and "impeaching Bushitler" work as well?
See one, play one, I say.

What, you think if it's produced in the U.S. we still have to pay a foreign government for it? No, it's sold on the world market and regardless of where it's actually consumed the money for that of oil comes to or says the U.S. Same as with any nation. It reduces the $700 billion we are paying for foreign oil every year. Stop thinking like Pelosi, you're smarter than that, Brian.
