Class Shows

Last week, during the Democratic National Convention, John McCain bought an ad during the final night -- and used it to congratulate Senator Obama on his accomplishment.

Then, the day after the convention adjourned, he announced his running mate -- roughly a week after Obama named Biden his running mate. In each case, it was done on the Friday before their respective conventions convened.

Tonight, the night John McCain formally accepts the nomination, Barack Obama will be giving his long-awaited interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, ending about an hour or so before McCain is scheduled to speak.

Dare I question the timing?

The spin from the Obama camp has been "old and tired vs. youth and energy." In this case, I think it's more a case of maturity and grace and good manners vs. petulant adolescent attention-seeking.

Hope Angel:

I think if the republicans where in the world alone then their plan would work because they really could continue to work without diplomacy and tact like they have for 8 years and continue to ruin the reputation of the US abroad. NEWS FLASH to the GOP....we live in a DIVERSE country and world and the tone of your VP and all the support people was rude, a classic play from the good ole boy playbook of the past, divisive, exclusive only for republicans(I think you insulted everyone you could claiming you have to be republican to be a patriot and apparently blue collar), and quite frankly disappointing to hear something like this in 2008. It had a "the south will rise" tone to me and I don't see how these people will reach across the aisle and get things done. For the record if you want a definition of a community organizer maybe there's a dictionary somewhere in the pit bull dog house. I don't blame the republicans though....you have to attack and criticize when you don't have substance. One thing I can say is that Palin and McCain aren't going to Washington to work with anyone other than each other and ...ummmm that reminds me of the last 8 years.

Wanderlust:

Aww, c'mon, Jay, "Hope Angel" is just parroting how what I am beginning to think of as the "wannabe Left" feel about McCain, and about the political Right in general. It's all about codewords like "diversity", feelings, smears, and a silent code that requires them to never, ever use logic to defend their politics, much less actually explain why they think theirs is better.

Compare and contrast to what I'll call the "professional Left", which is focused on maintaining a state of fear and economic misery, so that people will believe and accept the Government-led "solutions" these snake-oil salesmen are selling. The bottom line for this half of the Left is Power, through control of the Government purse, and by maintaining a state of tenuous status-quo between the West and whatever force will counterbalance it (e.g., communism, islamofascism, or just plain thug dictatorships (Castro, Chavez, Assad, etc., etc.))

That being said, the wannabe Left is so sold into the "progressive" myth, and the professional Left is so hungry for power at all costs, that such simple virtues as graciousness and sincerity are seldom found on their side anymore.

So let Obambi have his time in the limelight with O'Reilly. But don't expect for a moment that Barack of the thin political skin will extend the same graciousness to McCain on Friday as was extended to him last week. Their campaign has demonstrated time and time again that they do not understand what being gracious to one's opponent means.

TOP OBAMA CAMPAIGN FINANCIER ATTEMPTED TO STORM STAGE DURING SARAH PALIN SPEECH
Thursday, September 4, 2008 | Kristinn

Posted on Thursday, September 04, 2008 12:46:21 AM by kristinn

One of Barack Obama's elite fundraisers from the anti-American group Code Pink attempted to storm the stage last night during Republican vice presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's acceptance speech at the GOP convention in St. Paul.

Jodie Evans, one of a group of about 500 top financiers who have bundled tens of thousands of dollars for the Obama campaign was seized by the Secret Service after she had made her way to side of the stage and and started to yell at Palin.

The Washington Post reported on the incident:

10:45 p.m. A pair of Code Pink activists just got to the very edge of the stage and were a moment away from apparently running on stage, right by the Kentucky slot on the floor next to a host of McCain's most senior staffers.

Secret Service men grabbed them at last minute and literally dragged them out.
--Paul Kane

Evans has bundled between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama as well as contributing the maximum $2300 to Obama's presidential primary campaign. She co-hosted Obama's breakout Hollywood fundraiser at the start of his campaign in February 2007.

As a bundler, Evans has been given perks that include regular briefings by top campaign staffers on policy and private meetings with Obama and his vice presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Evans is infamous in conservative and military family circles for publicly endorsing the terrorists in Iraq against the American soldiers who toppled Saddam Hussein and have fought to keep free Iraq from falling to the hands of Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups and nations.

Evans has worked with state sponsors of terrorism including the governments of Castro's Cuba and the the late Saddam Hussein. She has also met with Venezualan dictator Hugo Chavez and has professed her "love" for him.

Evans has led Code Pink's campaign against the Marines in Berkeley where the group has called the Marines "assassins" and Evans herself has compared the Marine recruiting center in Berkeley to a porn shop.

Code Pink issued a press release a short while ago bragging about their attempt to disrupt Palin's speech:

Co-founders Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans, who were given their tickets to the speech by a Republican delegate who was frustrated with the Republican party and Sarah Palin, caught the attention of Palin with their banners and shouting about 15 minutes into her speech. Palin stopped talking for a moment to turn to look at them.

After another moment, security then grabbed Benjamin and Evans and escorted them one at a time out of the St. Paul Xcel Center, where they were held until the end of the Palin's speech and told they would be arrested if they tried to reenter. They were told they'd committed an arrestable offense but they were not charged.

"Sarah Palin is not a woman's choice," said Jodie Evans, co-founder, moments after being released. "That's it."

Someone should have tasered that ****!

Giani: I saw one camera cut to a woman being escorted out, was that one of them?

"Sarah Palin is not a woman's choice," said Jodie Evans, co-founder, moments after being released. "That's it."

That's a whopping big can of worms for me. Nope, to people like this, the only choice important to women is whether or not they will get an abortion. I remember reading Bob Harms' website a couple years ago. Aside from every single page having misspelled words and simplistic notions, under "women's rights" was one paragraph about abortion. This is how some Democrats view women. As if they have no other concerns. As if they aren't concerned about the economy, national security, immigration, and a whole host of other issues. That some women actually support people like this is embarrassing for all thinking women.

His website is gone now. In the bit-bucket where it belongs.

Giani, I think I know what you're getting at. Correct me if I'm wrong. I would say that while some on the left and the right will both on occasion attribute the actions of one person or group as indicative of the entire opposition, in the case of your hypothetical, there's no doubt there would be those who would attribute such actions to all "right-wingers". But yours is a hypothetical and I try to stay away from such comparisons.

There's likely (nay certainly) going to be some who say these Code Pink women are indicative of the left. I would just correctly say that they are "part of" the left.

If you're saying you think the media would give it more coverage, then judging from past experience with the media, I think it would be a safe bet, but not a good argument to put forth a hypothetical.
