McCain/Palin turn up the heat in Virginia

John McCain and Sarah Palin will appear at a large campaign rally in Fairfax Virginia on Wednesday morning - the first sweep through the critical Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Barack Obama's hopes to switch Virginia from a red state to a blue state for the first time in decades in a Presidential election hinge on Obama winning large number of votes in the inner-most of Virginia's suburbs. He's going to loose decisively in the rural portions of the state but he's hoping to repeat the winning strategy previous state-wide Democratic winners (Mark Warner, Jim Webb, Tim Kaine) by taking the state by winning large margins in the urban areas.

The addition of Palin to the ticket appears to give the McCain campaign a real chance to slam the door shut on Virginia - a state the Obama folks were really counting on as a potential pickup.

More on the appearance Wednesday...

The Wednesday event is at my kids school - Fairfax HS. Cool!

My school suffered a visit from the Jimmmeh, back in the day. Not cool.

I hear Hussein O is coming back to the part of the country his media mouthpiece Andrea Mitchell called 'real redneck country'. All he can do is lose more votes when his racist mouthpieces make more stupid remarks. 'Rednecks' may not be super educated but they are super smart and have lot of common sense.

No, HB, the article isn't a good read - unless one is into fiction.

Steve Schippert:

Because Frum lives in DC, where the contrast between upper-middle class and poverty is starkest and measured in meters, there is suddenly a "widening of income inequalities"?

He is right that the country is becoming less Republican. But that has nothing to do with his (factually unsupported) assertion of a "widening of income inequalities," a pointy-headed way of saying the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer" liberal mantra of days gone and present.

The Republican rolls are down for one reason: The Republican party has slid from its core conservative principles and come in certain influential quarters to embrace once liberal solutions if not recognition of false problems (ie man made global warming, etc).

So it should be striking that his solution to grow the Republican party is an even farther slide from core conservative values and more of what has shrunk the Republican rolls.

The point is this: I do not care one bit about the size of the Republican party if its ideals are sacrificed and/or watered down. then the Republican party will have left me - as it has those no longer on the rolls - and NOT the other way around.

The groundswell of support for Palin bears truth to this fact. I say again, this fact.

Support has poured in, not because she is a woman, and not out of simple sympathy for her media treatment.

But rather, because someone with communication skills, clarity and resolve is championing core conservative principles again. And look at what is happening.

Frum's solution is to turn the Republican party into what the Democratic party used to be before it lost its way and was taken over by the extreme left.

I reject it fully and energetically.

You bring the public back to the ideals they have not abandoned, but which they just do not hear articulated in an inspiring way; not bring the ideals to where one imagines the public to be. That is a recipe for failed government.

Frum is very bright and just as wrong.

hyperbolist:

That's a thoughtful response, Steve. (Jess--not so much!) You're right: as a Beltway insider born in Canada, Frum is probably not ideally situated to make sweeping generalizations about the history of the party that most reflects his values, but I thought it was a provocative hypothesis anyway.

Demographic shifts, with the decline in population share of white Protestants, are not going to be offset by a return to core conservative values, many of which fail to resonate with social moderates. The Republican Party will have to become a more moderate party as social conservativism does not resonate with the majority of voters, and puts quite a few of them off.

HB,
Steve gave the article more attention than it deserved.

In simpler terms, Frum looked in his own backyard, then attempted to apply his worldview to that forbidden land West of the Potomac, and failed utterly.
You see, out here in the hinterlands of Fairfax County, "democrat" does not equal "liberal", nor does "republican" equal "conservative". The Commonwealth tends to be rather conservative, regardless of party and geography, and there is still a great deal of "old democrat", even in places like Arlington & Falls Church.

I also LOL'd (to coin a phrase) over Frum's descriptions of NoVa - by the time Bobby K was in McLean, communities such as West Springfield and Greenbriar (both in Fairfax County) had far greater voting populations than the environs of Hickory Hill, but that seems to have escaped the good writer.

Mr. Frum should make that long & tortuous trek across one of the D.C. bridges into the Commonwealth. With some practice, he may even be able to do it without holding his nose or keeping his eyes closed.

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA... (Below threshold)
JAY Author Profile Page:

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS NOT READY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

SARAH PALIN IS NOT READY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

The difference is ---- only one of them is running for the job! GO JOHN McCAIN!

WHY IS OBAMA VETTING THE "VICE PRESIDENTIAL" CANDIDATE? IS HE NUTS?

I find it interesting that Obama NOW regrets not serving our country --- NOW he wants to explain his "above my paygrade" remark at Saddleback. I guess he couldn't think fast enough without his teleprompter and 300 advisors. What about his voting for infanticide? He will say and do anything to get what he wants --- Sorry, but it's too little --- too late!

OBAMA HAS 30 LAWYERS IN ALASKA VETTING GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN. HE'S RUNNING AROUND LIKE A CHICKEN WITH HIS HEAD CUT OFF! WHY IS HE AFRAID OF THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR "VICE PRESIDENT"?

THE DNC AND BIASED MEDIA NEVER VETTED HIM --- IF THEY HAD, HILLARY WOULD BE THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE. HE'S COMING ACROSS LIKE A BLUNDERING IDIOT!

Gov. Palin has more executive experience than Obama or Biden since she has been a councilwomen, a mayor and is now the governor of the State of Alaska along with being the head of the Alaska National Guard; whereas Obama has been a Community Organizer, got into the Illinois State Senate by disqualifying his democratic and republican opponents and thus ran alone for the seat. Then he became a Senator in Congress. Since that time, he has spent most of his time 'running for president'! IF HE CAN'T DO HIS SENATE JOB --- HE SURELY CAN'T LEAD OUR COUNTRY!

Governor Palin brings a lot to the table! Most of our Presidents in recent history have been governors and not senators so when you compare the Democratic ticket, all you have is Senators who never ran a business or a city or a state. At least McCain gained some of his experience while in the military. Remember Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush were all governors when they became president.

OBAMA'S PHILOSOPHY IS: "DENY AND DESTROY". Don't pay for your mistakes. Deny ever hearing or seeing anything. If you don't want to pay for your mistakes, just get rid of them --- or blame someone else!

WE ONLY HAVE A FEW MORE WEEKS TO LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT WHO BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA REALLY IS. HOW MUCH MORE "HIDDEN BAGGAGE" DOES HE COME WITH? HE IS TOO RISKY!

I'M VOTING FOR THE HONORABLE JOHN McCAIN IN NOVEMBER!
