Kos: Krush Konservatives, Komrades

Byron York draws my attention to the left's Luminary Intellectual Proletariat service (or LIP service, if you prefer), the one and only Markos Moulitsas. His mission: Not just win, but crush the spirits of conservatism and conservatives.

I've been making the case the last couple of weeks that we can't just focus on winning in November, but that we have an imperative to take advantage of a historic opportunity to break the conservative movement's backs and crush their spirits. In the White House, that means getting Obama a broad popular and geographic mandate for change. In the House, that means annihilating the Republican caucus and working toward a 100-seat Democratic majority. In the Senate it means getting to a 60-seat filibuster proof majority.

Republicans will claim that McCain wasn't one of them, hence rationalizing away their loss. But if we decimate their ranks, including their conservative icons, it'll make it harder for them to justify their spin. Remember, we want them broken, their ranks thinned, their treasury in heavy debt, their morale in the gutter, void of any leadership, discredited in the eyes of the public.

Hence our need this year to take advantage of this perfect Democratic storm to not just win, but to utterly wipe the board clear of as many Republicans as we can catch in this wave.

Prescient, no? Our fine contemporary Greek philosopher has expanded the political mission to now encompass a radical new idea: Win as many seats as possible. Brilliant. Why didn't anyone else ever think of that? No wonder he commands the Left's nutroots.

Here's my favorite part: "Republicans will claim that McCain wasn't one of them, hence rationalizing away their loss."

Will claim? Another bit of prescience from the LIP service.

Here's the deal, Aristotle. If your candidate wins the Presidency, and if as many candidates win additional seats in each of the houses of Congress as you hope for, you have two years to run your fire sale on the Constitution. You will own the process, but not the clock. You will have two years to institute the mechanisms of silence and dissent suppression, such as the Fairness Doctrine, and the mechanisms of Central power, such as universal health care, the levers of defeat, such as withdrawal from Iraq (not to be misrepresented as 'ending the war,' which requires acknowledgment form each warring side) and apologetic rapprochement towards sworn enemies such as Iran, and drive the stake of the Marxist principles of wealth redistribution and shared misery and capped aspirations deep into our system of governance.

And then, when you get what you want, gloating with glee and smug satisfaction, you will own it. All of it.

And you will find yourself having awakened a sleeping giant, having overplayed your domestic Pearl Harbor political moment. You will find yourself perplexed as to why, suddenly and even with the aid of a fawning mass media and measures of silence imposed on others, you and your movement seem incapable of convincing 'the masses' of your existential merit. Because such is and has been a carefully crafted illusion. Incapable of closing the deal and realizing perpetual success. Because illusions do not stand up to scrutiny once the audience has been to the puppet show and seen the strings.

Brush reality aside as much as you like, but the fact remains that your movement has had monumental aid and assistance from nearly every media outlet capable of delivering and selling your message. Yet, once again, you are incapable of truly closing the deal and reliant on razor thin margins falling in your aided favor.

Why is that? Because such is the nature of illusions, even among an electorate largely disenchanted with the current state of affairs and government.

And you may well yet get that which you seek and predict. But confusing that with a deal closed and sealed with the American people writ large is a fatal mistake borne of premature glee, arrogance and ignorance.

The garage sale on the Constitution is nearing its end. Perhaps, as you predict certain 'victory,' not before we bear witness to an all out fire sale on the Constitution. But end it will.

break their backs
crush their spirits

wipe them out

He really needs therapy.

Well said, Steve. What are Obama, Pelosi, Frank and Schumer going to do when they cannot blame George Bush anymore for everything that goes wrong due to their ignorant policies? Personally, if I was in the Republican leadership, I would just get out of the way and let them self-destruct. Everyone knows it's coming by 2010 or 2012 at the latest.

You know what else I cannot wait for? Obama press conferences! Wait until the press starts to finally ask him tough questions. He'll probably scream "ENOUGH" again. : )

Kos talks about the political annihilation of the conservative movement--if that's newsworthy to you, then you fail to understand the extent of his partisanship.

However, lunatics like Scrapiron can talk about killing their opponents (not the first time he's done it--he has mentioned that people would be within their rights to kill public school teachers if they don't like their ideological bent), and they get three positive votes!!!

He doesn't speak for ya'll, but would it kill you to at least tell him he's an idiot?

I voted you down for your supercillious, arrogant attitude, which has worn very, very thin.

Kos has a hell of a lot more influence over people than someone like Scrapiron. Scrapiron can vent, and you object. Kos looks forward to dismantling the democratic process, shutting down freedom of speech, and you applaud. Briefly, you're an idiot if you think 'progressive' ideology will improve ANYONE'S life.

If you haven't read it already, I very much recommend Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago. The descriptions of the trials of people who were simply attempting to keep the country running, the water works going, food and fuel going to where it needed to be are the stuff of nightmares.

Hyper-partisanship is NOT healthy for a government or a society, and the left have been shoving themselves into a spiral that totally rejects any attempt at rational debate on the issues, preferring rabid insistance on partisan belief.

So read the book, Hypie. You might be seeing it live on your southern border in the next decade or two.

Not to mention excellent masturbatory skills.

What that lunatic fails to recognize, in addition to our own lunatic scrapiron, most if not all of what obama proposes will never get pst the Blue Dogs in the House and Senate.

When that happens Kos and his kiddies will wage all-out political was on his own just as he has with Hillary and Lieberman.

Scrapiron "vents", murderously, and you don't object, JL. He gnashes his teeth at the thought of a red vs. blue civil war, where people would be murdering each other over their political beliefs. I'm a snide jerk so vote against me, fine, but dude, I don't wring my hands with glee at the thought of conservatives being killed. Negative votes for being a prick, but not for being evil? Come on.

I have read it, and have almost all of Solzhenitsyn's books. Not a great author, but I admire the man, even after he became a die-hard Putin supporter.

I'm not a Kossack. I think that element of the netroots are useful for fundraising, but they don't control the party apparatus, at least not to the extent which would be cause for your concern. Of course politicians occasionally pander to him, he has a big internet megaphone.

If conservative politicians understood, and had the same regard for, their own netroots as liberal politicians, they would attend conferences put on by Glenn Reynolds or Michelle Malkin or whomever, and they would be just as guilty of pandering to fringe nuts. They wouldn't be writing their policy anymore than Kos writes Obama's, though.

You didn't learn a damn thing from them, did you?

What's stuck most with me are all the trials of people who's only crime was expressing any sort of doubt about the ideology - and they died because of it.

You see NO similarity between the rabid ideology of communism and the rabid beliefs of the far left?

You believe Obama's not going to be influenced by the Kos folks? That he's not going to have any influence?

I hope like hell you're right, Hypie - but it's awful easy to justify witch hunts, whether they're for racism, questioning belief, or simply speaking your mind. You see Scrapiron as being murderous - I'm certain that a 'progressive' judge would see things the same way.

So what should the sentence be, Hypie - gulag or simply shooting him before he becomes a menace to the state?

You really don't think it could happen? Like I said - I hope, if Obama gets elected, you're right. But the danger is there, and as been shown, the danger is REAL that extreme ideology ends up with extreme results.

Steve, did you steal this from some Democrat who lashed out at the Republicans in 2000? Because it's word-for-word dead-on accurate with what happened to the Republicans since Bush got elected.

I'm especially suspicious because of your reference to "razor thin margins" (describes Bush's win) and "confusing that with a deal closed and sealed with the American people" (describes Bush's alleged "mandate" and "political capital"). Since Obama looks to crush Bush's margins, this rant doesn't seem to apply to today's politics.

Anyway, one tendril of agreement I'll extend is that history will, ultimately, repeat itself. These things come in cycles. Too bad for Republicans that they didn't realize that. I don't expect the Democrats to either.

hyperbolist:

I think it's funny that you don't tell Scrapiron he's evil when he obviously is. Kos never advocates murder.

JL, no, I see no comparison between Stalinist Soviet Russia and the left in America. Mainstream Stalinism granted the government the power to murder the enemies of the state, whereas whatever you consider to be the far left--the 50+% of the country who views Obama favourably?--are not clamoring for their candidate to kill his opponent at rallies. (McCain supporters do that. Don't expect you to denounce them, as they're fringe lunatics, but they do that.)

I think the sentence for Scrapiron should be banning. People have been banned here for being annoying, for using sock puppets, for swearing too much (I think), or at least disemvowel the guy. I'm not aware of him ever being censured, whereas I and others have been censured for dropping f-bombs or going off-topic. HE WANTS TO KILL PEOPLE! He says so all the time! What more does he need to do, show up at an admin's house with five hippies' heads in a duffel bag?

Obama isn't extreme. Talk radio has painted liberalism as extreme for the past fifteen years, and it's a caricature. New York is a liberal city. It's a nice place. Ever been to a liberal country? Incredibly peaceful places, with good food and vibrant artistic communities. Nice places! You are afraid of a caricature, and I'm glad you'll get to see that social democrats ain't all that bad once Bush vacates the comfy chair.

You use 'evil' to discount anything you don't like and you cheapen the word into sheer uselessness.

Let's go through a little exercise designed to restore your sense of proportion.

Saddam's feeding people in wood chippers, gassing his own people, killing them off at about a hundred thousand a year, selling the 'food for oil' supplies to build a whoppin' big mosque and rearm his military?

THAT was EVIL.

Taliban killing women who wouldn't wear mattress sacks, and accidentally show an ankle?

THAT was EVIL.

USSR killing massive numbers of its own people through engineered famine and calculated oppression?

THAT was EVIL.

AIG executives take money and go on a business retreat?

STUPID, but not EVIL.

"Homeless Teen: I Killed NYC College Student Out of Boredom"

THAT was EVIL.

Scrapiron fuming on-line?

That's NOT EVIL.

You may dislike it - but it doesn't hit the 'EVIL' standard at all.

Scrapiron actually going out and slaughtering people? THAT would be EVIL.

You're certainly free to EXPRESS what you think - but don't expect automatic agreement. (Or disagreement - you've had good points in the past I've agreed with.)

But that's what you seem to expect. You pronounce your judgement, and then you're shocked - SHOCKED - when we don't automatically confirm the essential correctness of your labeling. THAT is why I think you're a supercillious, arrogant fool. You seem to believe we should bow down to your lofty pronouncements, because YOU think someone is 'evil'.

You haven't got a friggin' clue.

hyperbolist:

Yes I have a clue, and for you to dig yourself out of a hole, all you have to do is throw one asshole under the bus (who you had no business defending in the first place--seriously, does anybody think he's anything but a frothing lunatic?)

One more time for you: Scrapiron advocates evil actions. He advocates KILLING people because of their ideology, and we aren't talking murderous Stalinists, but tax-grabbing liberal peace-niks. Your response: equivocation. Saddam was evil! The Taliban are evil! Scrapiron's not evil, he's just saying evil things. My response to that: he is evil, as no person with a functioning moral compass would gnash their teeth at the idea of murdering half their own countrymen, and furthermore, HE'S RIGHT HERE. Can you yell at the Taliban on the internet? Have they got an English blog? ***ksakes man, you can TELL a BAD PERSON (Scrapiron) what they're doing wrong with the intention of making them a better person! I don't want the ****ing guy thrown in jail, I want someone he listens to to explain to him why he's bat-shit crazy so that maybe someday, in the distant future, he might contribute a single iota of substance to a conversation on anything other than how much fun it would be to kill all the public school teachers.

hyperbolist,

People on the left don't wish for Bush's death? I have seen shirts worn by liberal members of my community calling for the death penalty to be used on him. There was artwork imagining and hoping for his assassination from the left.

Does this mean all people on the left want conservatives to die? No.....however, when I see bumper stickers that say 'Abort Conservatives' it is quite clear to me that a large number of the left wish we on the right were dead.

All of this brings to mind one of Obama's biggest supporters, socialist columnist Greg Palast, cheering the death of Ronald Reagan and saying that Reagan was burning in hell for all the "evil" he did.

Funny -- I have not seen one prominent conservative of note EVER say that about Kennedy or Johnson.....

There are going to be some stupid people on either side, that will say stupid things.....
but you guys on the left control the media, so we rarely hear when people on your side say things like 'We Support our Troops when they shoot their officers'.... although we know these things are ROUTINELY said at protest rallies who are 99% populated with Obama supporters.

I don't want Obama to die. Rather, I will pray for him that perhaps his heart may be changed. But that does not mean I have to like or support his policies. Too bad you guys on the left could not oppose Bush's policies without HATING the man.....

"You are afraid of a caricature, and I'm glad you'll get to see that social democrats ain't all that bad once Bush vacates the comfy chair"

I live in a community that has been taken over by social democrats locally. Ironically , our schools are performing worse, our taxes have gone up, our property values have gone down, crime has increased, and city and school budgets are busted. That is bad enough for me. To see it on a national level, and all the entitlement expansion that will take place, will be 100 times worse.

Social Democrats are the scourge on American Society. Wealth redistribution is theft, and faith in the government to solve all problems is a fallacy. Additionally, opposing capital punishment for the guilty, while killing the innocent child makes no sense either.

Social Democrats are the enablers of death and destruction upon America --- if not by their own hand, they will domestically weaken us to a point to where the external enemies crush us.
