Sarah Ditches Fancy Duds

Sarah Palin said she first hoped to just ignore all the talk about her clothes and high heels and hairdo, but has decided to address it. She is no longer going to be wearing the expensive wardrobe provided by the RNC which has gotten so much attention in the past week. One pundit pointed out that when Palin campaigned for governor of Alaska she wore "fleece" and that would not do for someone campaigning in the lower 48 for the office of Vice President. The RNC clothes never bothered me. She did have an Alaska wardrobe. She is not a super wealthy person like Cindy McCain or Michelle Obama. She was new to most Americans and needed to make a good impression. She also only had a matter of a few days at most to get her family packed and ready to begin this amazing adventure. It makes perfect sense to me that the campaign would provide her with a fancy wardrobe so she would have one less thing to worry about. It was always a big nothing to me, but I guess some newspapers and television reporters would prefer talking about $150,000 in clothes to talking about over $800,000 the Obama campaign gave to an ACORN group to get out the vote. Or about all the suspect donations the Obama campaign has accepted. Or about any of Joe Biden's dozens of bloopers, blunders and gaffes. Good for Palin for embracing her own style, but if she thinks going back to her Alaskan fashion is going to make them any more likely to report matters of substance, I fear she will be very disappointed.

Update: This is not directly about the clothes issue, but says a lot about how comfortable Palin is in her skin.

How about a woman spending $23,000 for 2 weeks of makeup? Or a man spending $5,500?

You know what? Never mind. I can see where this is going. Democrats' wasteful expenditures in vanity represent their typically wasteful and vain ways, but Republicans have good fiscally-conservative reasons for doing the same thing.

Then maybe you haven't been reading me long enough. I don't have a problem with it being reported, just as I don't have a problem with it being reported about the RNC Palin clothes story. My big problem is that other really important stories are not being reported as prominently and some not at all. I have said that for as long as I have been blogging and in fact have said that for as long as I have followed politics.

My best guess is that a smaller issue like this wardrobe thing(compared to the major story of the economy for example) found legs because many women voters were outraged at this. Other strange stories with the election such as Bill Ayers or ACORN just didn't find a real group of voters to outrage, although I'm deeply disturbed about any story involving voter fraud myself. The public needs to trust their elections to validate the result no matter who wins.

Lorie, this way, way off topic here. But if you're planning a Halloween party for an older audience, you might just want to rent or purchase the brand new horror DVD, TRAILER PARK OF TERROR. It's based off the comic book series from Imperium Comics, and guest stars country star Trace Adkins as the Devil(called The Man in this film). It has a real Southern flavor and is real creepy fun.

A young trailer park resident, Norma, is angered at her other trailer park residents and murders them and blows herself up in a propane explosion, but mysteriously this burnt-down trailer park re-emerges from the ashes only to terrorize a church group of wayward teenagers led by a pastor.

Norma rises from the dead, and rebuilds her beauty with artificial faces and commands a group of living dead to terrorize the church group. It is pure Southern flavored Halloween fun you might well enjoy, and one of the best pieces of horror movie trash to come out in some time. I would certainly recommend this over that awful SAW trash in the movie theatres which will likely be big because of Halloween.

TRAILER PARK OF TERROR is pure Halloween fun. I think you once did a post on your own website about Halloween horror films and a link to some of the best ones. Well, this is one to add to the list for sure. Halloween will bring a welcome fun distraction to all the politics this week. Thank goodness for holidays.

Yes, you said that. And I said that I don't recall you having this problem with the Edwards haircut story, that it was causing other really important stories to not be reported as prominently and some not at all.

And don't try to tell us that the Edwards story wasn't reported with as much fervor. Edwards's haircut was covered on the front page of The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Orlando Sentinel, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, San Francisco Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Washington Post, and The Washington Times. Surely taking up front page space would cause other stories to not be reported as prominently.

I have said that for as long as I have been blogging and in fact have said that for as long as I have followed politics.

Forgive me for not taking you at your word. If you're interested in pointing me to your similar comments regarding the Edwards haircut story, I will be happy to retract my statement.

They bought each outfit in 3 sizes since the shoppers weren't sure what would fit, so two of each outfit is returned unused, isn't that $150,000 figure misleading? And except for the makeup, the rest of the clothes will be auctioned for charity or donated directly, so what is the beef here anyway?

Obama is reportedly spending $295,000 an hour. Now that is disgusting.

Hussein O's election will help me. I'll resign from the volunteer fire department, turn in my gear and stop spending my own money to run several medical calls per week. Out of 28 members there is 5-6 who can run fire/EMS calls in the daytime. Everyone else works. I say, you bought Hussein O, let him pay, out of your money, a dozen or so firefighter/EMT's to watch after you.

How much did it cost for Hussein O to fly to Hawaii and back? That was on the dumb democrats. So bitch about wasting your own money and lay off Sarah Palin. Funny that the hate will not leave the liberals if Hussein O wins, they will simply transfer the hate to someone else, most likely their family member who they will kill by the thousands in their fits of hate. Hate and Liberalism are one and the same and is a mental illness.

In any case, should Obama win I am disconnecting my cable TV forever, no more DVD, and all the other junk; I am sick to death of the hollywood's botoxed fakery flowing from the big screen.

If we really want Change we must stop buying the news-entertainment industry's junk; disconnect the cable, no more DVD's, no more CD.

You want Change if Obama should win? Starve the propaganda machine.

Giving up one year of entertainment is all it will take, just say NO to 'Dancing with the Stars' they are not nice people, they are thieves conning you out of your liberty.

Well, now, if

thousands upon thousands of people dead from said war, and more than 2 million Iraqi refugees,
torture in violation of the Geneva Conventions,
an increase in poverty in the U.S.,
spying on people without a court order,
lies, lies, and more lies,
the turning of a budget surplus into a $400 billion-dollar deficit,
Katrina, with Bush playing guitar while New Orleans drowns,
the outing of a covert CIA agent,
rampant, immoral cronyism,
increased environmental degradation and global warming,
still yet more lies,
and Osama been Forgotten still free (because Chimpy preferred to go after those who didn't attack us instead of those who did)

doesn't bother you, then, of course, $150,000 SPENT ON STUPID CLOTHES CERTAINLY WON'T BOTHER YOU, EITHER!!!! Damn!!

hyperbolist, I don't consider anyone who votes for Hussein worth my time and money, and yes I spend hundreds of dollars per year of my own money running fire/rescue and medical calls. No one in the department has taken a penny of pay or reinbursement in the 14 years I've been there. If you're not worth spit you aren't worth wasting my time and democrats aren't worth spit. I expect all of the socialist on welfare to take up the slack or let the homes burn. At least I won't be killing folks since I won't set the fires or crash their vehicles, and I won't be a party to murdering 50 million + babies for birth control purposes. That's solely a democrats game.

If you plan to vote for Hussein burn your bible before going to the polls and close your eyes as you pass a church. Don't be a phony Christian, Jew or Catholic and a hypocrite. A vote for Hussein is a vote to kill 'real' living, breathing babies born during a botched abortion. It's called the born alive act and was passed with Hussein's support and his vote.

Hussein O used the campaign plane (Personal business) to fly to Hawaii to see his sick grandmother, spewing polution all the way there and back. How much did that cost compared to a new wardrobe? Did he pay the cost out of his own pocket? He is a multi-millionaire who never held a living wage paying job you know. BWAHAHAHAHA, and democrats think someone else is insane.

They want to talk about tanning beds and clothes, not ACORN and fraudulent donation practices and just who was repsonsible for digging through Joe the Plumber's personal records right after he had the gall to speak publically contrary to Obama's quasi-socialist policies.

In other words: Breaking the law, stealing votes and money? Worth a shrug of a shoulder, buying a wardrobe or having an opinion? Worthy or national derision.

Ken Hahn:

I will have to admit that I found the John Edwards haircut story worthwhile. Nothing in the '04 campaign so well illustrated the vanity that I thought was Edwards' most notable characteristic. And it was hilarious. We have since learned that Edwards was even more dishonest than he was vain. Oh well, he's a Democrat, that's to be expected.

As to Palin's clothes, if this were Hillary Clinton and the DNC, nothing would have been said. But Hillary's one of those poor multimillionaire Democrats so maybe she pays for her own clothes. Then again I suppose a wardrobe that doesn't cost the taxpayers a cent is more important than a trillion dollars in new government spending. I'd say if the RNC wants to spend money on Palin's clothes, the Democrats should be thrilled. That's $150,000 less that they can spend on commercials. The lapdog media should be demanding that Republicans spend even more on Palin. Less money to point out Obama's lies and Biden's incompetence.

So, Brian, I admit Edwards has every right to spend $1000 on his hair. He can spend as much as he wants for a pedicure. And I have every right to laugh at him. You can't laugh at Palin, she makes you too angry for that. That's the difference. It's the bitterness and the hate. Democrats are really good at those.

Imagine if both candidates said enough is enough and used the money to go towards the American people --- for some of the promises they have made or to go towards balancing the budget and not to take away from us hard working people to give to others.
The wardrobe / the haircut - that's just noise to divert from the real issues.
