Obama's List: The Goodie Bag

Jake Tapper today calls him Obama Clause. As Glenn Reynolds remarked, "No wonder some people think he'll pay for their mortgages and gas."

Just today in Sarasota, Fla., the Democratic presidential nominee said that he'd:
  1. "give a tax break to 95 percent of Americans who work every day and get taxes taken out of their paycheck every week";
  2. "eliminate income taxes on Social Security for seniors making under $50,000";
  3. "give homeowners and working parents additional tax breaks";
  4. not increase taxes on anyone if they "make under $250,000; you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime -- not your income taxes, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax";
  5. "end those breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas";
  6. "give tax breaks to companies that invest right here in the United States";
  7. "eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-up companies that are the engine of job creation in this country";
  8. "create two million new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, and bridges, and schools -- by laying broadband lines to reach every corner of the country";
  9. "invest $15 billion a year in renewable sources of energy to create five million new energy jobs over the next decade";
  10. "reopen old factories, old plants, to build solar panels, and wind turbines";
  11. build "a new electricity grid";
  12. "build the fuel efficient cars of tomorrow";
  13. "eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in 10 years";
  14. "lower premiums" for those who already have health insurance;
  15. "if you don't have health insurance, you'll be able to get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress give themselves";
  16. "end discrimination by insurance companies to the sick and those who need care the most";
  17. "invest in early childhood education";
  18. "recruit an army of new teachers";
  19. "pay our teachers higher salaries, give them more support. But ... also demand higher standards and more accountability";
  20. "make a deal with every young person who's here and every young person in America: If you are willing to commit yourself to national service, whether it's serving in our military or in the Peace Corps, working in a veterans home or a homeless shelter, then we will guarantee that you can afford to go to college no ifs ands or buts";
  21. "stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq whole the Iraqis have a huge surplus";
  22. "end this war in Iraq";
  23. "finish the fight and snuff out al Qaeda and bin Laden";
  24. "increase our ground troops and our investments in the finest fighting force in the world";
  25. "invest in 21st century technologies so that our men and women have the best training and equipment when they deploy into combat and the care and benefits they have earned when they come home";
  26. "No more homeless veterans"; and
  27. "no more fighting for disability payments."

This on top of his 30-minute infomercial last night, and the myriad other pledges and promises he's made throughout the last 21 months.

Time is critically short today. I have to go with my daughter today and make sure there are no Obamas trick or treating who take their costume to the next level and go about the business of sticking their hands in her treasure bag to "spread the wealth" because "it's good for everybody."

But the above list is numbered (Tapper's is not) because when time avails, I will revisit most of them, and numbering makes for easier reference. In the mean time, commenters can argue the plausibility of each more easily by numeric reference. Have at it.

So when he says those making $200k or below will see a tax cut or says those making over $250 will see a tax increase he is talking about the same plan.

But I'm not going to vote for Obama. Over the last 30 years, I've noticed that Democrats always make promises - and forget them the day after the election. (How'd that super-secret Pelosi plan to get gas prices down work for ya, by the way? Gas is down to about $2.50 a gallon locally, but the Dems had to trash the economy to do it.)

Republicans usually don't promise you the moon, the stars, and a pony. But they DO try to take care of defense issues and they usually don't mess up the economy much.

Obama's promising everything to everyone, with the 'rich' paying for it all. Well, where the hell is he going to get the money once the 'rich' has been bled dry? Off the money tree in the back yard?

And seriously, is there ANYTHING you can point me to that Obama DIDN'T screw up in his career? He left his 'community organizing' because he wasn't making a difference. He helped ACORN get mortgage reform that FUBARed the economy. Google Grove Parc for an example of what he did as a state senator. NOW he wants to 'help' the country out?

Not true they repeatedly said it was the "WORST ECONOMY Since the Great Depression" We are really in recession regardless of GDP growth.
. Once basic tenant of life is that the value of money is peoples faith in the Government. We had recessions and depressions when we were on the gold and sliver standards. Assuming a dem House, Senate and an obama WH who doesn't think obama's pet project (Senate bill S2433) wouldn't get passed?

S2433 calls would require the U.S. to initially direct .7 percent of our GNP into the United Nations coffers for distribution as they see fit, for "food" to third world nations.

Under earlier agreements this would evolve into a national tax on the U.S. with the UN attempting to levy this on all first world nations.

The U.S. would be required to surrender some of its sovereignty over foreign aid by putting it under UN control. The bill would force the U.S. to sign onto the U.N.'s Millennium Declaration, which would commit us not only to "banning small arms and light weapons" but also to adhere to the International Criminal Court Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol.

THAT my friends is a TAX ON EVERYBODY.

Democrats have delivered before and will again if they win. Franklin Roosevelt and New Deal Democrats were able to provide millions of jobs with the New Deal, NRA and WPA, rebuild the business community, and open up home loans by creating Fannie Mae, and creating bank savings insurance.

If Roosevelt had not strengthened American industry by the late 30's the allies would have lost WWII and Japan and Germany would be sharing ownership of the U.S. after the Republicans and Hoover destroyed the economy in 1929.

Some American auto makers like Duesenberg-Cord-Auburn had to switch from building cars to building kitchen cabinets to stay in business because of the Republican damage to the economy during 1929 with the Wall Street crash and their Great Depression.

Whenever Republicans have destroyed the economy and wrecked the country, voters had to turn to the Democrats to fix things. Last time was 1992 with another Bush wrecking the economy and taking away people's prosperity.

This election won't even be close. Voters will vote their pocketbook values again.

What makes you think HE is managing his campaign? That he's so low in the polls?

He could have sat on his ass, not spent the money, had an interview every other day or so, and he'd probably be only about 4 points behind McCain thanks to media support.

And it doesn't worry you that 'managing his campaign' was the only thing you could come up with he hasn't FUBARed?

His economic plan is going ... (Below threshold)
rls:

His economic plan is going to put the US into a 2nd World, maybe 3rd World country. This is what I am going to do. I expect a lot like me will do the same.

I am 60 yrs old and have owned my business for 24 years and I currently have seven (7) employees that my business provides a decent living for. The longest tenured employee has been with me for 17 yrs.

I'm not going to get into the $250,000 argument, I simply do not trust Obama and the Democrats. I personally think that everyone that pays taxes will get an increase in taxes once they let the Bush tax cuts expire. However I am going to close my business, lay off my employees and sell my equipment and buildings before January 20th, IF Obama is elected.

I had planned on working two more years and trying to line up financing so my employees could buy me out and then I would stay on one more year (as an employee) and help them transition. Now it is not a big operation and I would sell it to them just south of 1 million, which would be at a discount (actual asset value).

Obama's stated intent is to raise the capital gains tax to 20% (from 15%). That is what he has said he would do....that doesn't include the possibility of what he might do. Now you might not think that the extra 5% is much of nothing, but I have real property (commercial) that has increased significantly over the last 20 years and that extra 5% is going to cost me a pretty penny.

So, Senator Obama's election is definitely going to put seven (7) employees out of work and impact my current vendors to the tune of about a half a million per year, one small supplier rather dramatically.

That is how taxes impact small businesses. Small businesses, by nature, want to grow....as they grow, they add staff, they buy more inventory, they invest more in plant and equipment and thus they end up paying more (dollar wise) in total taxes.

When they are constricted by onerous tax rates, they have no choice but to curtail operations, lay off employees, shrink their business...or like I am going to do, just get out entirely and let someone else deal with the "new" economy.

IF, and it still is "IF", Senator Obama is elected, the tax revenue for "spreading the wealth" won't come from me, so you guys will have to pick up my part, and the part of every other small business owner who sees this as I do and is able to bail out.

The tipping point is 49% paying and 51% taking. Wonder how close we'll be in two years of a President Obama's term.

this is stupid. Modern government didn't exist in His day - so you're saying a candidate who embodies His teaching and wishes to use the means he has as a leader (like, for instance, if he were a King) to further it somehow goes against the Word? Absurd! Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah, the King - he was for all intents and purposes the "government" to the believers.

It does say that you will be judged by the way YOU (Note NOT YOUR GOVT BUT YOU) treat the poor.

Speaking of govt.

"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry... has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who... have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it." --Thomas Jefferson

"I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground that 'all powers not delegated to the United States, by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states or to the people.' To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specially drawn around the powers of Congress, is to take possession of a boundless field of power, not longer susceptible of any definition." --Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson~ "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not!"

As HL Menken once said:

The theory behind representative government is that superior men-or at all events, men not inferior to the average in ability and integrity-are chosen to manage the public business, and that they carry on this work with reasonable intelligence and honesty. There is little support for that theory in the known facts...

As a society we choose to implement the enforce laws against killing. We further take it that the taking of an innocent life is an anathema to a functioning society. Society distinguishes crimes committed against minors as especially repulsive.

So in that context the Judea Christian tradition concept of law has which looks to "thou shalt not Kill" has been established.

Furthermore we see that this concept is not limited to Occidental cultures.

The question surrounding abortion is a wether a fetus before the first trimester has the potential to be viable human life. (Pregnancy can be terminated in any trimester for the health of the mothe according to ROe V Wade)

http://www.tourolaw.edu/Patch/Roe/

Many Christians take the admonition about killing innocent life esp a child as being of paramount importance because the child cannot defend of fend for itself and thus is as you pointed out the 'least of my people" and look at the termination of a fetus which will of course be a baby as murder regardless of the feasibility.

Using you Biblical standard of "least of my people " no can support Obama because even when the child is born alive (thus showing the feasibility of surveying outside the womb) he allows that child to die cold hungry and alone as it might make the mother reconsider her abortion.

I do not accept your premise of Jesus being political figure and governmental . He was not socialist, capitalist, communist, women rights, man's dominance or any other movement that has co-opted him. he was about individual salvation. He forms the moral foundation and it requires that man acts and accepts individual responsibility for his own actions.
We can disagree but I will not allow you define my faith. Just like you can keep to your own console. However I will say I am sick and tired of people telling me what I believe or calling me a hypocrite because it do not follow there illogical conclusions.

This true Beauty of The USA. We can hold a debate we can yell and scream and even call each other vile names. As long as we do not violate any law and influence our government. (usually without fear of retribution )
