O's campaign hasn't been very well thought out from the beginning. The only thing I can think of here, is she might be used to a certain lifestyle and has no problem with where she lives. In her eyes, public housing may be far better than she has ever had, and he may actually be giving her money that we don't know about. Why does that story mean that Obama is a hypocrite? 2 cases:
1. he did have contact with her on a regular basis: so he should have known about her status. what would you do then? report her? obviously, if you would do so, I don't know what kind of person you have to be to report a relative.
Besides, apparently, officials already knew about it, so why report her again? so I can't see what he would have done wrong then, or how it says anything bad about his character?

2.case: he rarely talked to her, they were not close, so he just didn't know, like he said. the only thing to conclude from that is that he doesn't have a close tie to this part of his family, which is understandable to me since his father literally abandoned him... but there nothing "hypocritical" about that, or anything that would disqualify him as a president in my eyes. Many people have relatives they do never speak with.

Well, according to news stories, she was requesting "asylum". Is that normal for a foreigner that wants to become a citizen or was she trying to escape from something?
