I wondered where those King County Washington Democrat officials who screwed up the 2004 WEashington Governor's race vote count went to. I see they are safely ensconced in Minnesota. Don't worry. They will undoubtably find many more votes for Franken. Just enough to make sure that he "wins" the election. You just can't keep a good Democrat down, even if they loose.

The "found 100" ballots was actually a type-o. Instead of typing 123 into the final tally, the person doing entry typed 23. Simple human error and not some conspiracy like the Coleman campaign would have you believe.

Now given that even at 700 (much less 223) is still well below the legally required threshold, the Democrats have nothing to do with the recount.

As for the Washington vote, Christine Gregoire won re-election.

While you are at it, please weigh in on the fairly blatant irregularities of Minneapolis' Elections Director having unsecured absentee ballots in her car.
I would think this mismanagement of ballots should cost her her position.

The sad thing is this crap will continue until a bunch of these hacks got to jail and $ is taken out of their pockets. That'd be CHANGE I'd like to see.

If the election official who let 32 ballots "rattle around in her car for 3 days" get a slap on the wrist then this will continue...and ACCELERATE!

She took an OATH as an official. Whether through conspiracy or sheer stupidity she MASSIVELY failed that oath. And yes, whether she mis-placed 32 ballots she should not have had in possession in the first place...or delivered 32 MANUFACTURED votes...she disenfranchised SOMEONE!!

From what I have read so far, the MN voting system is almost 100% optical scan technology. All data must be printed to hard copy and signed (literally) by multiple judges with copies of tapes (the hard copy) provided to both parties at the end of official counting.

Any counting errors would be discovered on the original tapes from the hard drives, which were downloaded and printed, then affixed with a signature from local election precinct judges.

In the accounting vernacular, this is known as a hard close. Any adjustments subsequent to this would be considered extraordinary.

So the stage should be well set should the Dems want to steal the election: they will have to do it in broad daylight and explain the extraordinary votes....such as those found in the trunk of election official automobiles.

MN Republicans have an opportunity here to show the nation if they have the guts to confront a thief.

p.s., the only thing the Republicans lack right now is the MoveOn.Org fueled mindset that "they stole the LAST election...let's steal THIS one!"

Races are never over when the voting is complete. Yes, they're over when the counting is done. Or the automatically-triggered recounting, as required by MN law. If Coleman wants to challenge the 32 votes, he can do that, once the counting is done, as prescribed by MN law.

That seems to be exactly how at least one of these errors was discovered.

Because St. Louis County is some 7,000 square miles, election officials called in their results election night and followed up the next day by delivering their voting machine tapes. It was the initial call, not the machine tape, that got the vote tally wrong -- human, not mechanical, error.

We can argue political ideology all day, but empirical exercises such as counting votes should be beyond dispute. It appears to me that MN has a good system, or at least we will find out if they do.

Counting votes should be an absolute no brainer. If we have to back to paper ballots with signatures to ensure a fair election then we should do it.

I want to engage my political opponents on policy and philosophy. I do not want to have to worry if the referee is paid off.

(a) 32 Absentee ballots could have wound up in her possession PERIOD
(b) how those 32 ballots could have wound up in her car for THREE DAYS

Now...think of a way in which the word "Fraud" isn't involved!

Frankly the idea that she would tell such a story...tells me that is true. Because she would have to be the stupidest person alive to come up with a story like this that wasn't true, and expect anybody to take it serious. And I don't think she is stupid.

That said I don't care what side of the fence you are on, I say let the process play its way out and if you don't like the result suit after the fact and prove your case. Otherwise pointing fingers with no proof, or trying to get a court to stop the process because you suspect something is just as bad as any funny business that is going on...especially if your allegations are unfounded when put to scrutiny.
