One thing is certain: Sean Penn didn't write that piece. It's too clever by half, with the necessary one millimeter of self deprecation, to pass off as his own.
That said, Penn lacks the attention span to craft such a tome. I wonder which screen writer had the honors (or orders)?

A group of bloggers of Cuban descent, both on and off the island, responded to Spicoli, thus:
December 3, 2008
Dear Sirs:
Many Cubans, on the island and in exile, have read with interest your recent collaborations in different media about the Cuban political situation.
We would like to bring to your attention two recent facts that we have not seen mentioned in the international press:
The renowned Cuban blogger, Yoani Sánchez, was today summoned by the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, which explicitly warned her against conducting an event for independent bloggers that she was preparing for December 6.
The official government journal of the Republic of Cuba published a "Regulation for the Service Providers of Internet Access to the Public," contained in Resolution No. 179/2008 of the Ministry of Computer Science and Communications, which says that administrators have the obligation to "adopt the necessary means to prevent access to those Internet sites whose contents are contrary to social interest, morality and good behavior".
In a ridiculous attempt to censor the incipient Cuban blogging movement, this resolution, signed by Minister Ramiro Valdés, establishes the order to prohibit "the use of applications that affect the integrity or security of the State".
We would appreciate it if in your next reflections on the so-called Cuban "process of transition" you would take into account these and other limitations on the basic liberties of all the citizens inside the island.
Regards,
Ill note that Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez has won numerous prizes around the world, was listed in Time 100 most influential people issues and her blog has been nominated for best Lation, Caribbean or South American blog at this year's weblog awards.
