Breaking News: Grand Jury Supoenas Issued for Rezko/Obama Land Deal

The headline at Drudge:

Grand Jury supeonas Rezko-Obama.png

An exclusive from the Washington Times:

A former Illinois bank official, now claiming whistleblower status, says bank officials replaced a loan reappraisal that he prepared for a Chicago property that was purchased by the wife of now-convicted felon Tony Rezko, part of which was later sold to next-door neighbor Barack Obama.

In a complaint filed Thursday in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Kenneth J. Connor said that his reappraisal of Rita Rezko's property was replaced with a higher one and that he was fired when he questioned the document.

Mr. Connor, a real estate and commercial credit analyst at the Mutual Bank Corp. in Chicago, also noted in the complaint that the bank received a grand jury subpoena in October 2006 requiring it to produce information concerning Mrs. Rezko's purchase, including the bank's files on the property.

The complaint also said that the grand jury wanted information on Mrs. Rezko's checking account and loan file and that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) had audited the Rezko file - although Mr. Connor's lower reappraisal had been replaced with a higher amount.

"Connor's internal whistle-blowing activity at Mutual Bank implicates Mutual Bank and the potentially guilty officers thereof to prosecution under federal and Illinois statutes," said the complaint, filed by attorney Glenn R. Gaffney.

The complaint said Mutual Bank officials could be guilty of making false statements, willfully overvaluing property, bank fraud, witness retaliation, willful violation of a lawful subpoena, FDIC violations, and state banking regulations.

Notice the complete disconnect between the headline and the article. Not a thing in the article about the purchase of the land by the Obamas. It's a completely different transaction but that doesn't stop the wingnuts from trying to pretend it's the same thing.

"Not a thing in the article about the purchase of the land by the Obamas."

...except that it was all part of a larger transaction, and the property values were "modified" to make the Obama land purchase more reasonable-looking. The reason the value of the house was dropped so dramatically was to make it possible for Obama to buy it (without having to take the other $125,000 as a direct cash bribe).

Yes, it's a direct tie to the Obamas. Just like the arrest of the Illinois Governor is also a direct tie to Obama (he helped get Obama elected in EVERY race he ran in, including the Presidency, and was looking for political payback that wasn't coming fast enough and with enough cash).

By your idiotic logic all the Republican corruption scandals in the past 8 years have a direct tie to Bush. Could you possibly say anything dumber than above? Well, actually I'm sure you can and will.

Yeah, except for the part in the FIRST freakin' paragraph.

Good try JFO. Cirby gives direct facts about how Obama and Rezko are related in corruption and how the Governer of Illinois and Obama of Illinois are related (The corrupt governor helping Obama win each election he's been in.) and you counter with..............

just a strawman "well gee then that means that Bush is related to every corrupt Republican."

Cirby talks facts, you talk innuendo. Good going but it's only the libs who will find your argument persuasive.

Sue, you dream a wet dream about Obama. You and many of your ultra rightwinger buddies. How about demonstrating the "facts" - not what you think or want them to be - but facts supported by documents and testimony that concludes Obama is "corrupr" as you so like to dream in your wet dream.

Ummm...this isn't breaking news. The Washington Times story was published on 10/18 and there hasn't been anything about this (at least not that I can find) since. Kim (here) and Drudge are being a bit disingenous in treating this as if it were new "news". If that complaint was so damning, why hasn't there been a follow-up since 10/18. Why wasn't it an issue pre-election? Because there's nothing there, at least not as far as a connection to Obama. As for the Blagojevich mess, good for Fitz. And as the complaint in that case makes clear, Obama's team specifically refused to play ball.

Obama's team didn't report the solicitation of the bribe to the authorities...which is required by law. A team with so many lawyers should know this. I guess when it's a Democrat and a Chicago one at that, it doesn't apply.

Uh, can you say "biased MSM"? It was there, and had the potential to damage the Obama candidacy, so of course it was ignored.
Sounds like Obama's own personal "Whitewater" has surfaced early. Who's got the first catchy "___-Gate" moniker to describe the situation? There should be a flood of them soon.

@hermie

a) Do you know that Blagojevich directly tried to bribe the Obama team? I see nothing in the complaint indicating this happened.
b) How do you know that the Obama team didn't report the solicitation? Perhaps they were the ones that gave Fitz the tip. Jarrett pulled herself out of contention pretty quickly. Could be that Blagojevich did ask for something in return, they refused, then gave Jarrett a WH adviser slot and gave Fitz a call.

Fitz is probably a guy Obama wants to keep on during his administration and probably promote. He's a good prosecutor. I can the Obama team working with Fitz on this case, not against.

And the OG actually stands for Obama is the Greatest-bestest-superest-terrificest-wondefulest person ever in history! (we liberals, by the way, don't worship at the altar of Obama like conservatives do with Palin)

The liberal, terrorist loving, America hating NY Times "broke" the Whitewater story in early 1992 - ie, before the Dem primaries were over.

And, again, it was the NY Times who introduced America to Whitewater. It was also the NY Times who published Judy Miller. Got that?

*the Democratic Party moved it's PARTY HEADQUARTERS away from DC (another historical event) to Chicago for this election?

*no stories were reported in the national media about Obama's neighborhood, talking with constituents, or spotlighting past achievements in his home state and own district?

*the national media took Obama's excuse that he made a "boneheaded" move in getting a land deal from Mrs. Rezko (which he admitted himself), then never did any further investigations themselves?

*Gov Blagojevich, a governor, was not selected for nomination status, and Obama who had hardly any record and was a mere junior Senator was?

*Gov Blagojevich tried to get the Chicago Tribune to censor stories and fire editors?

Please take your Obama goggles off and start to think about things.

FembotsForObama:

Talk about making gross comparisons!

Could you at least compare apples to apples?

A comparison of Bush with "all the Republican corruption scandals," and a comparison of Obama with corruption in his own state, and with people he has had close relationships with (advising Gov Blagojevich, and Rezko being his number one political contributor, who effectively got his political career started) are two different things. These corruption scandals beg the question: how was Obama able to rise in the political cesspool of Chicago and Illinois?

JFO you just said something equally dumb. Perhaps it would help if you didn't engage in personal attacks. But Obots don't know how to do anything else.

When will they look into the fact that MicHELLe got a big $120,000 a year raise increase as soon as Obama became a Senator. Isn't that a big bribe saying make sure that obama votes for whatever it is that we need. Why else give MicHELLe such a big raise.
Obama has a lot of very dirty friends thru Rezko including Saddams money launder and his ex minister of Electricity.
But 1st things 1st... Washington DC needs to look into his HA birth certificate. Nonsense to the BS that its a private matter. If you want to be President of the USA we the people have a right to see it from the Registrar not a copy that is all doctroed up from Obama. Go right to the source.
