The latest buzz about the arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is that President-elect Barrack Obama's appointed Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, "turned" him in.
While Emanuel's conduct is sure to be part of the ongoing investigation and potential trial, the notion that he is responsible for Blagojevich's indictment is not supported by the facts contained in the criminal complaint (PDF). Federal investigators received permission to bug the Governor's telephone lines BEFORE the presidential election took place.
Emanuel may well have declined to get involved in any of Blagojevich's schemes, but to suggest that he is some how a hero for "turning in" Blagojevich doesn't square with the facts presented so far.
The Feds already knew about Blagojevich's attempts to sell Obama's Senate seat because THEY WERE LISTENING TO HIM TRY TO SELL IT. What could Emanuel have told them that they didn't already know?
That "tip" is obviously a trial balloon (and lefty blog fodder) to try and throw the scent off of Obama and Emanuel. Don't buy it...

What "lefty blog"??? The rumor of Rahm Emanuel supposedly blowing the whistle was directly from a FOX NEWS affiliate, of all places. Do your research and get your facts straight before you try to start slinging mud...and get a life already!!! Idiot!

No shit Sherlock. It's left blog fodder, i.e. they take an unsourced "tip" given to a MSM outlet and talk it up as fact. It wouldn't have any weight if it originated on Daily Kos, but since it went to a Chicago news station and was picked up by Politico it now gets an air of authority. That's how it works. If you don't believe it read the criminal complaint, where they detail how the Gov planted stories in the Chicago media...

When you put something in quotes, it oughta be a quote, Kevin. No one said "turned him in," but rather the FOX reporter said this:
We did receive a tip this morning that perhaps all of this came together so quickly because the Governor may have reached out to Rahm Emanuel, the president-elect's chief of staff, in attempting to leverage filling the Senate seat. And it may have been Rahm Emanuel who tipped the scale and made this move as quickly as it did.
No one suggested that 'he is some how a hero for "turning in" Blagojevich,' but rather that Emanuel's involvement may have been the last straw that made Fitzgerald decide to detain the governor today. Maybe. I doubt it, but regardless no one is saying that Emanuel is somehow behind the entire investigation.
Reading (or listening) is fundamental.

By Kevin's logic right-wing Fox propaganda "news" is now a "lefty blog" when it's convenient.
And Kevin, by the logic of your previous post:
Hollywood loves terrorists.
Republicans love Hollywood actors (Reagan /Arnold /Fred Thompson).
Therefore: Republicans love terrorists.
That, in a nutshell, is right-wing pretzel logic.
You discredit yourself Kevin and do a disservice to Wizbang spouting such right wing blog fodder/nonsense.
You are clearly a capable writer Kevin, please take a deep breath, count to ten, and Think through what you are writing.

Clearly sitnam and news reference don't understand how this works. Look around at the comment section on the original Politico post, there's plenty of people now claiming Rahm "turned him in," and that's how it's being spun on at Daily Kos. Next thing you know that will be an accepted trueism on lefty blogs. The details of the orignial report and/or the truth thereof are irrelevant.

1. Emanuel denied that he was a "tipster" in this case.
2. If you read the wiretap transcripts... Blagojevich is fuming because all the Obama administration would give him for offering the senate seat to their favorite candidate would be their "appreciation".
So Emanuel is not making any lofty altruistic claims and seems to be honest about this, and from Blagojevich's own recordings, PEBO did not take any bait and is detached from this wrongdoing. The idiot is on an island... the President Elect didn't bite, the unions didn't bite and the Tribune didn't bite. Viva Lisa Madigan!

The press didn't do it's job of vetting Brocko so these type of things are going to dog him for years. More dirt that should have been uncovered and examined before the election will keep coming up.
The press did the country, and Brocko, a huge disservice by looking the other way.

Wouldn't it be funny if Emanuel just called up Obama and said, "Looks like we need a fall guy..."?
Questions Arise About the Obama/Blagojevich Relationship
"Asked what contact he'd had with the governor's office about his replacement in the Senate, President-elect Obama today said "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening."
But on November 23, 2008, his senior adviser David Axelrod appeared on Fox News Chicago and said something quite different.
While insisting that the President-elect had not expressed a favorite to replace him, and his inclination was to avoid being a "kingmaker," Axelrod said, "I know he's talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them."
Even funnier are the updates:
"(UPDATE: An Obama Transition Team aide says that Axelrod misspoke on Fox News Chicago.)
Even more comedy:
(UPDATE #2: Axelrod this evening issued a statement saying. "I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.")
There are no allegations that President-elect Obama or anyone close to him had anything to do with any of the crimes Gov. Blagojevich is accused of having committed.
In fact, there are indications that Mr. Obama and his team refused to go along with the "pay to play" way Blagojevich is accused of operating, offering only "gratitude" if the governor appointed his friend Valerie Jarrett to take his U.S. Senate seat, much to the governor's chagrin."
Axelrod seems to be taking his cues from "mark my words" Biden.
Obama is also lying about being against Mandatory civilian service, when in reality, they are on the exact same page. Look for more scare stuff from these two:

Just as Bush and Cheney used the press to misrepresent the truth and to terrorize the masses into believing the sensationalized story that they needed to get into a war in Iraq in order to avoid Iraqi WMDs from blowing up US cities, I believe that Obama and Emanuel are using the press to discredit and smear Blagojevich so that he will want to quit before going to court to expose them for their misbehavior in trying to force him to appoint Valerie Jarrett as Illinois senator. Blagojevich may be as corrupt as Illinois politics, but I think Obama and Emanuel are more desperate these days in hiding the truth than he is. They have the myth of being reformers to protect.
