For the past eight years, liberals have screeched and moaned about how President Bush STOLE THE ELECTIONS!!!11!!!1!!!1!!! This, of course, is a load of crap, as President Bush actually did win the election. I'm sure that all those people were only concerned about making sure the voices of the people were heard, not anger over someone they disagree with winning office.
And considering how much liberals love fairness and upholding democracy, shouldn't they be more concerned about a real, live, honest-to-God stolen election going on right now?
I haven't commented much on the drama going on in Minnesota, with the race for the Senate between Norm Coleman and Al Franken. Why bother? I knew from the beginning what the outcome would be. No matter who the people actually voted for, Al Franken would be declared the winner. And that's exactly what will happen, because there is no other allowable outcome beyond a Franken victory. It doesn't matter whether or not Minnesotans want him; all that matters is that some crazy guy wants to be a Senator and he's got a (D) next to his name. Every single outcome of the recount, no matter what they find, will benefit Al Franken, as the Wall Street Journal is noticing.
Under Minnesota law, election officials are required to make a duplicate ballot if the original is damaged during Election Night counting. Officials are supposed to mark these as "duplicate" and segregate the original ballots. But it appears some officials may have failed to mark ballots as duplicates, which are now being counted in addition to the originals. This helps explain why more than 25 precincts now have more ballots than voters who signed in to vote. By some estimates this double counting has yielded Mr. Franken an additional 80 to 100 votes. This disenfranchises Minnesotans whose vote counted only once. And one Canvassing Board member, State Supreme Court Justice G. Barry Anderson, has acknowledged that "very likely there was a double counting." Yet the board insists that it lacks the authority to question local officials and it is merely adding the inflated numbers to the totals.
In other cases, the board has been flagrantly inconsistent. Last month, Mr. Franken's campaign charged that one Hennepin County (Minneapolis) precinct had "lost" 133 votes, since the hand recount showed fewer ballots than machine votes recorded on Election Night. Though there is no proof to this missing vote charge -- officials may have accidentally run the ballots through the machine twice on Election Night -- the Canvassing Board chose to go with the Election Night total, rather than the actual number of ballots in the recount. That decision gave Mr. Franken a gain of 46 votes.
Meanwhile, a Ramsey County precinct ended up with 177 more ballots than there were recorded votes on Election Night. In that case, the board decided to go with the extra ballots, rather than the Election Night total, even though the county is now showing more ballots than voters in the precinct. This gave Mr. Franken a net gain of 37 votes, which means he's benefited both ways from the board's inconsistency.
There's lots more, but from that alone I think you get the picture. And of course, liberals aren't decrying this election, even though it's undoubtedly stolen. Breaking the law and stealing elections is perfectly acceptable, provided it benefits the right people.
And as for the wimps on our side, I'd love to see them actually grow a backbone and put up a fight. Coleman says he'll sue, but what happens when that doesn't work? It'll be back to the GOP standard of rolling over and playing dead.
It's a great time for politics in America, isn't it?

What a load of (predictable) crap. The canvassing board is 2 Dems, 2 Reps, and an Independent. The recount was broadcast live on the Internet. BOTH camps had to agree on which ballots to count (although Franken has repeatedly said "count them all", while Coleman has been the one challenging them in court). There's "no proof" to the charge of missing votes, so it should be dismissed. But the charge of double counts... well, the no proof there means it's a certified fact! (Ignore the fact that even if you give Coleman the 80-100 "double" votes, Franken still wins.)
How about this... for the past eight years, Republicans have screeched and moaned about how Democrats USE THE COURTS TO OVERTURN THE WILL OF THE VOTERS!!!11!!!1!!!1!!! With Coleman promising more court challenges, will they be screaming about court-decided elections now?

Hansen and bob
I was referring to the tactic employed by the Clintons against their enemies. Try to destroy the person and then claim to be above the fray and villify the enemy if they should dare to fight back.
The way Lewinsky was treated by the Clinton team was a perfect example.
Now lets look at 2 current situations that are ongoing with the Senate.
A. Illinois. - This is a matter for the people in Ill. to resolve. I have no issues with who the folks in ILL want to represent them in the Senate. As far as I am concerned, from what I know of the situation and applicable laws then Burris should be serving. He was nominated by the governor who was not under indictment at the time. He is not under investigation. This is a position contrary to some folks who feel that a special election takes place.
I personally think Reid should stay the hell out of it instead of trying to cherry pick someone he likes or thinks can win reelection. Going by his thinking than he doesnt have to seat anyone who he doesnt like regardless of who the duly elected Senator from that state should be. So I am all for seating Burris and he is a democrat (are you suprised?)
b. MN - Mentioned above. Again a matter for the folks from MN to resolve. That being said from what I have read ballots with the same circumstances were counted differently depending upon who they benefited, you have more votes in some counties than were cast in the election, amongst other issues. All in all I would prefer a fair election. Does that mean that I think Coleman won? I have no clue. I think the process needs to be set out ahead of time and followed to the T, no matter who it benefits. I am not of the mind though that there should be recounts until my candidate wins and then stop them. If they follow the same rules in reference to all ballots than I have no more of a problem Franken being a Senator from MN as I do Kennedy being a Senator from NY. My thoughts are if the people in that state are stupid enough to vote for them then they deserve them.
Personally I am sick and tired of hearing about recount this and recount that. I wish that they would pass a law which states that if the difference between the 2 candidates are less than 1% of the vote (or say 20,000 votes whichever is lesser) than they need to hold the election over again and only those people who have been recorded to have voted in the first election can vote in the 2nd. That way we wont have the parties trying to bus in voters from out of state to rig the election. This would also (hopefully) combat some of the fraud that both sides take part in. But I dont know if even that will help as people in MN have demonstrated there are a remarkable number of people out there (probably in every state) who cant even fill in a circle properly.

The Minnesota governor (R) and the attorney general (D) have both stated they won't sign the certificate of election until any forthcoming court challenge has been decided. Without the certificate the election is not final. In past challenges courts start by throwing out counts for missing ballets and then move on to throwing out absentee ballets, and then drop overvotes from precincts that report more votes than voters who signed in to vote, which they must do in Minnesota. In these precincts the overvotes are assumed to be in the same proportion as the total. If the overvotes are in a precinct heavily in favor of one candidate that candidate will lose votes even though the ratio for that precinct stays the same.
I'm not predicting the court will go all the way or even follow what I have outlined, but there is a lot of legal precedent that the court will be pressured to follow. The only thing I can say for sure is that if Norm Coleman is declared the winner it will be the democrats whining about votes being thrown out and voter disenfranchisement.
Regardless of the outcome, the closeness this race proves there's something strange in all that water up there in Minnesota. Al Franken doesn't just write jokes, he is a joke. To think he got so many to vote for him says something about Minnesota that's not very flattering. If you live downstream along the Mississippi I would be worried about drinking that water. You've had the first constructive suggestion I've seen on this whole mess - I've wondered myself why they don't just declare the election a draw and redo it? Instead we keep getting 'found' ballots, and 'lost' ballots, and duplicated (maybe) ballots and unreadable (but we can find out who the voter INTENDED by consulting Madame Yolanda the Psychic Advisor) ballots - and the whole idea of having a clear winner degenerates into a farce.
We should have done that with Florida in 2000 - just redone the whole state with a MASSIVE election observer corps. But now we've got a 'system', if you could call it that, where if any Democrat barely loses, you get an endless round of challenges until somehow sufficent votes are 'found' to make it a win.
Something needs to change with that.

I feel sorry for Herman. He did all that math but never took the time to actually read the article. Here is the next paragraph in the link which identifies another questionable vote gain for Franken of 176 votes:
"And then there are the absentee ballots. The Franken campaign initially howled that some absentee votes had been erroneously rejected by local officials. Counties were supposed to review their absentees and create a list of those they believed were mistakenly rejected. Many Franken-leaning counties did so, submitting 1,350 ballots to include in the results. But many Coleman-leaning counties have yet to complete a re-examination. Despite this lack of uniformity, and though the state Supreme Court has yet to rule on a Coleman request to standardize this absentee review, Mr. Ritchie's office nonetheless plowed through the incomplete pile of 1,350 absentees this weekend, padding Mr. Franken's edge by a further 176 votes."
Those 176 votes, when added to the already-mentioned other dubious vote gains for Franken, is more than enough to account for Franken's lead. To borrow a quote from Herman, though certainly not as he intended, "Game. Set. Match."

And even machine counts with millions of ballots tend to skip or miss some ballots, or voters don't exactly follow directions. In Florida in 2000, for example a number of voters were turned away at the polls only because they had names similar enough to a list of felons because Governor Jeb Bush didn't authorize funds to use a social security number checklist that the voter security company requested and other serious problems. And in at least one county, many people voted for two candidates because of confusing directions. In 1972, thousands of persons voted both for Republican Richard Nixon and the Socialist Worker's Party candidate, Linda Jenness, and a federal judge finally ruled that both votes were valid, although it didn't change the outcome. However, such a similar ruling would have elected Al Gore by comparison in Florida in 2000. But close elections really magnify any flaws such as witnessed in Minnesota.
I also have to blame Al Franken for making things so close in Minnesota by being so controversial, where many voters who voted for Obama simply couldn't stomach a vote for Franken. Franken nearly re-elected Coleman by his own conduct.

After reading the bitter liberal comments in here it is obvious that they are very disturbed over the way their Messiah is responding to events unfolding after his election win. Obama has taken the road to the center right, Oh dear, whatever will you liberal weenies do now that you're Savior has forsaken you. You know conservatives may just end up being the big winners here, I think Obama may make a better conservative than McCain would have.

You lefties never stop whining and gnashing your teeth about Florida do you, Hooson? You know you guys have made a cottage industry out of concocting ever more bizarre and outlandish voting scenarios by which Gore could have won. And now this fantasy has Jeb Bush standing in the doorway of polling sites turning away legitimate voters (the tacit admission that felons overwhelmingly vote Democratic is hilarious, though).
So, come on Paul, tell us another Florida fairy tale. And preferably one with Katherine Harris in it. And be sure to include at least one cheap shot about her appearance. Yeah, that's the ticket.

One other observation I have is that the liberals either can't read well or just refuse to see the truth. It is so damn obvious that this recount is fixed in favor of Frankel that its pathetic. But this is no surprise, the democratic party has always been the party backed by Mafia type personalitys. ( Teamsters union to mention only one )
Kennedy clan got their money bootlegging in the early days. Joe Kennedy bought the Chicago vote and backing for his son J.F.Ks election win. Clintons are a walking catastrophe waiting to happen, one never knows what dishonest scheme of theirs will come to light next. You think its a conincidence that Gov. Richardson is being investigated by a grand jury. LOL He pissed off Bill and Hillary when he endorsed Obama, now he pays the price. lol Its the crooked Democratic way. Wait till the Obama closet is shaken a little more, what skeletons will appear. This Obama administration is rife with scandals even before he takes the oath of office. TALK ABOUT SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOR, WELL LOOK AT THIS OBAMA ADMINISTRATION.

AIN''T HAPPENING BUDDY. So what ya think... YOU BEEN HAD BOY. LOL
One more thing. Dingy Harry Reed is a racist, he didn't want black politicians considered as Obamas senate replacement. Wait till this news gets out to the black population. You liberal trash are racist at heart, you keep the black man down by making him dependant on you. You're reign of power will be short because you are going to lose the black and hispanic vote that you need desperately. You don't have the mainstream traditional American vote. I am aware of Limbaugh's past problems with oxycotin and his hearing loss.
a. This does not prove your assertation that Franken's book had anything to do with his oxycotin problem. Is this one of those liberal dream things that you guys whack off to over at DU?
b. You can call his books cheeseballs but the bottom line is they were bestsellers and since you havent come back with Franken's books were as well I can assume for now at least that they werent.
c. Obviously more folks from the right appreciate LImbaugh's books than folks on the left appreciate Franken's since (again) you havent shown Franken to be a better author. And nice to see that someone you hold such a low opinion of is a better author than someone you obviously are estatic about getting a Senate seat.
d. Since you are obviously familiar with Franken's work that shows your level of IQ and the explains the connections you make between two unrelated events (IE Limbaugh's oxycotin problems and Franken publishing a book.)
e. If you read above you will see I could really care less if Franken is seated for MINN. Since they were idiotic enough to make the election this close if he is seated then they deserve everything they get.

Obviously Franken isnt rolling in the dough as that wasnt your defense. In addition, if Limbaugh got addicted to substances everytime someone said something bad about him then he would have been dead years ago. The thought that a book from 2 bit washed up comic/radio host bothered him enough is like saying the CEO of GM really cares if the man on the street calls him greedy. And before you start on the Jesse Ventura crap, or any others like him, I didn't vote for them and will only laugh at your attempt to equate me to those who voted for them.

Working together is only important when you need the cooperation of the other side. I think in a year or so a lot of nominal Democrats are going to realize that their 'change' hasn't exactly worked out like they were expecting - and the 2010 election is going to see a considerable change in the makeup of the House and Senate.
(Yeah, yeah, Pelosi's going to start using a trowel instead a makeup brush, yada yada...)
Democrats have a chance to show what they can do that they haven't had since the early '90s. But they were convinced THEN that everyone would support whatever they did, no matter what. They found out otherwise in '94. Think they'll remember the lesson?

Pelosi and Reid see this as well. They have superior numbers now and after a while the averages say that if you have more seats you lose more in the election. They will want to push as much of their agenda as possible through in the next 2 years. As such expect a HARD LEFT TURN.

They had the election in the bag on Nov 1 just wanted to make it look good. The fact that we now have a 123% voter participation doesn't matter (No one in this state would dare to actually investigate). Herman, read the article. I know its hard for you. But try. Franken picked up 176 votes by adding previously rejected absentee ballots from "Franken-leaning counties" while similarly situated ballots from "Coleman-leaning counties" were left uncounted. The arcticle righly cited "this lack of uniformity" for "padding Mr. Franken's edge by a further 176 votes." Either the 176 votes for Franken should be excluded, or the similarly situated ballots from "Coleman leaning counties" should be included. Pick your Poison.
