Today's lesson in irony-
'Joe the Plumber' Wurzelbacher told a group of journalists covering the conflict in Israel and Gaza that he didn't think the media should be allowed to report on war.The media should be there to report the news but by Joe wanting to cover 'Israel's side of the conflict', doesn't he realize he is picking sides too?"I think media should be abolished from, you know, reporting," Wurzelbacher said. "You know, war is hell. And if you're gonna sit there and say, 'well, look at this atrocity,' well you don't know the whole story behind it half the time, so I think the media should have no business in it."
Wurzelbacher arrived in Israel on Sunday to start a 10-day assignment for pjtv.com, a Web site run by the conservative media outlet Pajamas Media. The plumber-turned-foreign correspondent said he wanted to cover Israel's side of the conflict, because he thought the media was slanting the story to make it look like "Israel's being bad."
Also note that if the media was abolished from covering the war, Joe wouldn't be there either. I think Joe the Plumber's 15 minutes of fame are up.
Before someone attacks the source for the above, CNN, I'll note Joe's dislike of the media coverage was reported in the Jerusalem Post. We certainly know that member of the media can't be pro-Israel.(Turn off the sarcasm)
Doug at Below the Beltway concurs-
Which just leads me to something once said by America's 3rd President:"Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter."
So, instead of Joe The Plumber, I'll take my wisdom from Tom The President.
Dr Steven Taylor writes-
This really has to be one of the oddest episodes in recent politics and now in journalism (so to speak). It is made even stranger in that he seems to think that he is not only a reporter and commentator, but now is some sort of voice of moral authority based on nothing more than asking Obama a question and then having McCain say "Joe the Plumber" over and over at a debate. We all know how that worked for McCain.
Scott Johnson at Powerline dissents-
"Is there any chance Pajamas can send Joe on to Beirut, Damascus and Tehran after he completes his assignment in Israel? I think he could teach the media reporting from those locales how to do it right as well"Send Joe to cover professional golf in the United States. He stands a good chance at being better with simple facts than Doug Ferguson or Ron Sirak are.
What do I think of Joe after this episode? Check the title of this post. There's a You Tube video worth watching below the fold.

Scott Johnson is a twat. Journalists in Tehran have nothing to learn from this moron, unless he has some advice on how to publicly express dissent in a totalitarian state without being tortured or killed.
Keep this guy around, please. He's a hilarious stain on the Republican brand, and a very good example of why "elites" are better at many important things--e.g. journalism and discussing public policy--than average people.

Hello America, this is Joe The Plumber live from the Gaza Strip, and I haven't seen anyone kill this many towel heads since 2003. Jesus said, "Make the little children suffer" and by golly this is how to do it. To bad Palestinians aren't black!!!
Like Tim Russert and Chris Matthews proved that, unlike plumbing, no license or training is required to rise to the top in the broadcast news biz.
How about Joe joins the military and sees what an average soldier does on an average day in one of our ongoing wars? Joe just wants to be a war hero like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rush, O'Reilly and the other chicken hawks.
How is Joe ever going to get that dream of a plumbing business off the ground if he is running his fool ass all over hell's half acre? The average Joe doesn't want to go to Palestine and couldn't really give a rat's backside about what Jewish Average Joe thinks. Guess that claim he was going to buy a plumbing business was all BULLSHIT! Joe. Bullshitter. Joe the self-important attention whore. The second monster created by John McCain after the Mooselady (what was her name again?).
And some of you wonder why you lost the election?

As you lefties look down your long a snooty noses, you missed the simplicity of his comment. In every war, there are very confidential strageties and wider scope issues and along comes a half assed journalist, looking for his or her camera shot, report on the "scene" of a battle without any knowledge of the strategy or piece of the bigger picture. Therefore, the reporting is incomplete and untrustworthy.
It is telling the Joe cannot speak his mind without the lefties attacking him for doing so. Well noted. Of course, Cindy Sheehan is such a good representation of the left. ww

Yes, Willie, you're correct: journalists should only report what CENTCOM or the Dept. of Defense tells them to.
As if Michelle Malkin's "citizen journalism" in Iraq didn't make the wankosphere look stupid enough, PajamasMedia trots out this clown who proceeds to levy meta-criticism against journalists, whose profession he clearly does not understand and is incapable of discussing. Watching the clip you can understand where the guys is coming from.
Nothing let the media shining lights in the face of Navy Seals coming on the beach.
How about in Desert Storm where The Generals allowed the press access to battle plans and troop movements. What did the media do they reported it. The Iraq believed it and we were able to surprise them.
Growing up I watched PBS and saw more than a few press debates where the question was asked if you were on patrol with the enemy and you knew that an American patrol were to be ambushed? What would you do? Only one person said they would alert the US troops. the others stated they were reporters first and Americans second. So in that context yeah they should be kept away from our troops and our allies.
What does that mean? We have an ALL voluntary Military. Someone can choice to serve or not. It is a personal choice.
In the good old days when their was draft when politicians would abuse their political will to exempt their children or friends from serving you might have had a case.
Unlike the BS of Fahrenheit 9/11 Congress member s of both parties have Children in the military and those children have severed in Harms way. They do not make a big deal of it because that would make them high value targets.
