"Little Hiccups"

Timothy Geithner, Obama's pick for Treasury Secretary, failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001-2004.

Obama, defending his pick, said "Look, is this embarrassing for him? Yes. He said so himself. But it was an innocent mistake."

An innocent mistake, huh?

I bet if any one of us here forgot to pay $34,000 to the IRS, it wouldn't be viewed as a "mistake".

Quoting the AP:

"He paid some of the taxes in 2006, after an IRS audit discovered the discrepancy for taxes paid in 2003 and 2004. But it wasn't until much later -- days before Obama tapped him to head Treasury late last year -- that Geithner paid back most of the taxes, incurred in 2001 and 2002. He did so after Obama's transition team found that Geithner had made the same tax mistake his first two years at the IMF as the one the IRS found he made during his last two years there." (Emphasis mine)

How coincidental that he paid the rest of the taxes back "days before" he became Obama's pick.

It's also been reveled that his housekeeper's legal immigrant work permit was expired for 3 and a half months during which she was employed by him.

Senator Harry Reid called these mistakes "little hiccups".

These are recent mistakes made by the man who is possibly going to be the Secretary or the Treasury. You know, the office that handles, uh, money and stuff?

Needless to say, one could only imagine the outcry if this were a Republican nominee.

So let's see. We have Rangler, a tax evader, sitting on the congressional committee that all tax laws must go through. He just says oops and everything is alright. We are about to have Geithner, another tax evader, head the Treasury Department, which, among other things, controls the IRS. His problem is just a hiccup and he is not even charged penalties and interest. I, on the other hand, would be sent federal PMITA prison if I decided to not pay my taxes for several years. At the very least, I would be paying penalties and interest that not even a credit card company would be allowed to charge. I wonder if that is the two Americas that John Edwards always referred to.

Sure, it all started back in 1913 during the Christmas holidays, if you are willing to take the time to review. Regardless of what bureau of which department they are, the IRS has no legal right to force Americans to pay income tax. Many people already know this, but often someone gets unlawfully audited and forced to eat it when they come knocking. The real kicker is the Feds know it, too, they just aren't telling anyone. Please take the time to review the documentary in the link.

However, bear this in mind, - he probably, prior to being formally picked, was put through a full FBI background investigation or the equivalent by people on Obama's team. They audit your taxes, or the essential equivalent, during that process. In other words, it's very possible that he didn't know he screwed up until that point, particularly since he had had an accountant either do or review his taxes from that time. Should he have known better? Well, that's certainly a legitimate topic, also.

Let not forget he oversaw the Fed in NY. Where Wall Street , AIG and Madoff were all based in that capacity did he with a ground level view do any of the following:
• conducting the nation's monetary policy by influencing money and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of full employment and stable prices
• supervising and regulating banking institutions to ensure the safety and soundness of the nation's banking and financial system and to protect the credit rights of consumers
• maintaining the stability of the financial system and containing systemic risk that may arise in financial markets
• providing certain financial services to the U.S. government, to the public, to financial institutions, and to foreign official institutions, including playing a major role in operating the nation's payments systems

Let's be real. Who are we kidding? You have an investment man who people trusted with their life and he's in his jacuzzi drinking champagne and NO-ONE is as close as pissed as the way you and other pundits are at Geithner. WE know it's not a Geithner thing. It's a racist thing. Anyone Obama picks or shakes hands with should be fed to the sharks. What if Ted Stevens was someone that Obama had picked for Alaska Senator and got away with 7 felony convictions and another chance to run for election?? I can only imagine for the life of me what these post rooms would look like.
Speaking of Alaska, if you truly feel that Geithner should not be Treasury head over this $34,000 misdemeanor tax issue, then wouldn't you suggest that Sarah Palin resign or be impeached for never returning the $20 million bridge to nowhere money that was lent to her. Again, if this was Obama, Geithner, or anyone of his friends, 3rd grade teacher, that never returned a $20 million loan, you'd be pounding the door of the Attorney general.
So u know what??? I hope Geithner DOES get the job. Let the Republicans see how we feel when we sit here and watch these 7 time convicts, $20 million disappearances, and $50 billion panzi crooks in their homes and noone cries wolf. BUt as you tourself posted all the responsibilities Geithner is in charge of, it's understandable how he doesn't make the time for his own taxes. Just like a work-aholic, they dont even remember their children's birthday. I cant see Geithner as a $34,000 criminal. if he was a criminal you'd think he'd go for a few extra zeros--like 6 of them. I use to drive myself nuts reconciling bank tellers' mistakes everyday. You try finding 40 cents between 500 tellers every day and the last thing you want to do is worry about your own taxes. God knows i just handed the paperwork to my CPA.
And the problems that NYC has had in the financial dept, I'm sure there were times where Geithner didn't even come home for days; examining the records of Shearson, Goldman, ATG, and many others undergoing investigation for years. Your hands just get full.
Funny the same thing happened to JOhn McCain recently. He failed to pay property tax for 4 yrs. When questioned, you know what his response was? "When you're poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. *****WELL its obvious that you cannot see the big picture because you're allowing his personal matter become the center of everything. Where has it been stated that Geithner was a screwup in his job? AS i stated before, many people, including myself, put their jobs first and everything else second. Its called being a workaholic.
In a TIME article i clipped this: " Mr. Geithner will be praised as one of the most effective managers in an unprecedented situation, looking around the corner for the crisis that might follow. He has been in many ways an activist looking to intervene wherever the government could to address a market failure. As vice chairman of the interest-rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee (the usual role of the New York Fed chief), Mr. Geithner was among the first officials deeply concerned about the economic implications of the credit crisis. He advocated for the aggressive rate cuts since September 2007 that probably kept the economy out of a deeper downturn until now."
So it doesn't sound like he lays back in his chair at work waiting for 5:00 to come. I think before jumping on the quaterback on a 4th and 1 situation, a little research on his performance would better understand the present dilemma he's created on himself only.
Workaholic always created problems for themselves, but never on their job.

His core competency like everyone else at the IMF is finance. He prepared his own tax returns and screwed up. After being told multiple time how to do it the correct way. At the IMF he is one of a small minority who screwed up. So he does not seem that brilliant. He made the same mistake 4 years in a row. When it was brought to his attention 2 years ago he still did not take care of it.

Why because with SE tax there is a statue of limitations on when you're liable to pay back the taxes.
So keep the money you were paid by the IMF to pay the SE wait it out and you not only save money but make money if you have invested it. The only reason he paid it back was because the Obama team made him.

So your correct he is a smart guy.

The Senate committee considering Geithner's nomination released 30 pages of records detailing the tax problems and other issues discovered after he was nominated. The materials show that the IRS audited Geithner in 2006 for tax years 2003 and 2004, noting then that he failed to pay self-employment taxes while working for the International Monetary Fund.

Geithner also received IMF pay in 2001 and 2002, and he handled his quarterly tax payments those years in the same improper way flagged by the IRS. But it wasn't until his nomination by Obama that he paid those taxes, a fact that's puzzling in light of arguments that Geithner's actions were simply "honest mistakes."

"Even in the best of economic times, it would be hard to accept a Treasury secretary who, after all, is in charge of the Internal Revenue Service with a cavalier attitude toward paying his taxes," The New York Times wrote in an editorial. "Today, in a time of economic peril, the nation cannot afford a Treasury secretary with a tainted ability to command respect and instill confidence."

Even the NYT Editorial page (by no means a house organ of Republicans) finds fault

BTW most people who are self employed do not work 9-5.

There's not a high incidence of non-payment of taxes," Bill Murray, an IMF spokesman, told me Thursday. "We have a very low incidence of that here." Murray took care to say that he was not commenting in any way on Geithner or the current controversy. But he pointed out that the IMF has an ethics office, which issues a yearly report on various transgressions among the organization's 2,600 employees (about 25 percent of whom are Americans). The ethics office's 2007 report contained a chart of those transgressions; tax problems were listed under the heading "Unpaid Debts." In that column, there was exactly one example in 2007. "It's not unprecedented that people have had problems paying their taxes, or not paying their taxes, but it's not a widespread issue," Murray told me.

Mr. Geithner prepared his own federal-tax returns during the first two years he worked at the IMF, 2001 and 2002, according to the Senate Finance Committee report.

"The IMF informs U.S. employees about their tax allowance and what it covers and doesn't cover -- and that includes paying your payroll taxes," said Michael Mussa, a former IMF chief economist, who is now at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. "The IMF doesn't leave this out."

Now u gave all these people an excuse. They'll repeat all your claims and cover their ass. But i know they didnt know all this, now they do.

post 38. This is going to go on forever because obviously noone wants to agree that with the workload Geithner has, and the situation at hand, that it was really an honest mistake. I looked a little bit into your supported info and what i find was this:
"The Senate documents said that Mr. Geithner had prepared his own taxes in 2001 and 2002. However, an accountant reviewed his 2001 return and also failed to catch the mistake. In 2003 and 2004, he used an accountant who advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes. He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake for the average accountant to make given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions. The I.R.S. has noted that many employees of international organizations, including foreign embassies and consular offices, have made mistakes in filing their taxes.was a common one for people hired by international organizations that don't pay the employer share of Social Security taxes. The IRS estimated in 2007 that as many as half those employees had made tax-filing mistakes, and offered a group settlement to let them correct the errors." "This is not your normal situation between an employer and an employee," said Saul Brenner, a tax partner at Berdon, an accounting and advisory firm. "Did he make a mistake? Absolutely. But it appears that both he and his accountant made a mistake."
***So while you look for articles or clips that demeans Geithner's character, i go into one or two sites and get a totally different story. You put in a nice big box "Mr. Geithner prepared his own federal-tax returns during the first two years he worked at the IMF, 2001 and 2002, according to the Senate Finance Committee report.". But you failed to include the part where "an accountant advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes. He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions".
So in all retrospect, as long as republicans try to dig into what now seems to be a common error, and make it a catastrophe, this back and forth non-sense gets nowhere. I throw in the towel. Time for me and my girlfriend to cuddle.
Peace.

HCDDBZ post 38 Are You serious?? You quote what a spokesperson for IMF says? "There's not a high incidence of non-payment of taxes," Bill Murray, an IMF spokesman, told me Thursday. "We have a very low incidence of that here."
When a company may be under scrutiny, you don't look for what their spokeperson says.LESSON 1 in finding the truth. Unless of coarse, your goal is to slander the accused. You look for what the offense says and what a neutral party says. The Senate Finance Committee's report and IRS is really who you want to pay attention to. They have nothing to gain or lose so they're neutral. The New York Times?? The ethics office??? The ethicd office's 2007 report contained a chart of transgressions and showed that errors are not a widespread issue??? So then the IRS lied when they said "that many employees of international organizations, including foreign embassies and consular offices, have made mistakes in filing their taxes. This was a common one for people hired by international organizations that don't pay the employer share of Social Security taxes."????
The biggest irony of all this is that noone realizes that even the IRS screwed up. Everyone is so focussed on hanging anyone Obama appoints that if you take your mind out of evil, you realize that the IRS failed to recognize Geithner owed the taxes in 2001 or 2002. And it was for more money, $25 grand. It was Obama himself and his transition team. So are we to say that the entire IRS should be fired?? Sounds to me like Obama deserves a thumbs up. Not likely in this world of pundits.

Look the points are simple.

1. 2001-2002 were prepared by Gietners and he did not take any advice on those returns. Your are talking about 2003-2004.
2. He did file an amendment to the return based on deferred pension and that was the only thing he showed the accountant
3. Unlike many of the people who make the mistakes like a cook or security guard , his core competency is finance.
4. The IMF had him signed a yearly document that explained his tax liability
5. He filed for and received compensation to make up for the employers SE part of the tax liability.
Therefore you have compare him to his colleagues in that organization
The IMF is not under investigation by the IRS.
Any stats need to be researched and put into context. If many IMF employees were making that mistake then it would be a common one for him to make, since that is not the case it is an uncommon mistake.

Once he was audited for 2003-2004 and knew that filed wrong he should have stepped up to the plate and take care of 2001-2002. However, the IRS has statute of limitations on how far back they can investigate filed tax returns. So he just kept quite while he pocketed the money he had received for for it.

(Also for an expert he picks really crappy accountants what does that say for his skills in picking the right people to work for him)

All that aside What has he done in the last 8 months that makes him so good? Rubin, Paulson and him have screwed the poach.

If he is the best choice, then one would expect him to not make average mistakes esp. when give the tools.

Look if he was for transportation or HUD and had not received money from the IMF to pay his taxes and signed paperwork yearly then maybe a pass.
Finally you made this a Dem vs. Rep and the NYT is a very liberal paper esp. the editorial page. My point was even lib see something not entirely above board.

Kudos on the BHO transition team for finding the issue and correcting it.
Not so high marks, for not realizing that many would not look favorably on the Head of Treasury having tax problems.
They should have realized after all the statements Bidden made about paying taxes being patriotic people would securitized this.
Anyway have a nice weekedn.

WRONG!!! 2001 AND 2002 WERE prepared by Geithner BBUUTTTTT, The part everyone seems to go blind on, "an accountant advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes. He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions".2. He did file an amendment to the return based on deferred pension and that was the only thing he showed the accountant

4. The IMF had him signed a yearly document that explained his tax liability

You already showed what a sneak you are by posting bits and pieces of original statements. And thats an insult to my intelligence and I get very offended. You posted "Mr. Geithner prepared his own federal-tax returns during the first two years he worked at the IMF, 2001 and 2002, according to the Senate Finance Committee report." One sentence after that phrase comes the following:"an accountant advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes. He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions". Its in the same Senate Finance Report!!! How did you think I or anyone was going to see it?? ANd yet you continue to bitch as if you're so freaking right. You're impossible. Maybe Babe Ruth didn't hit 714 homers it was John McCain. Well I made your life easier and at the end of my note you will find the ling to the ORIGINAL 30 page Senate Finance Committee REport. That will put an end to all of this. Looks similar to your magical trick, except it looks like you got a hold of his scratch work and now you're making him out to be a sloppy preparer. Never Ends. I enclosed the 30 page that the Senate Finance Committee looked at
In the report you will find little minor things you forgot to leave out (duhhh) like:
1) Mr. Geithner self-prepared his original tax returns for years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005. He used paid tax preparers to prepare his original tax returns for years 2003,2004,2006 and 2007. He used paid preparers to prepare a 2001 amended return that was filed in July, 2002, and his recently amended returns for years 2001,2002,2004,2005 and 2006.
All returns were filed using married filing jointly filing status.
---looks he he used tax preparers for nearly 70% of his returns from 2000 til present. (Why don't you mention these small minor these so it doesn't look like Geithner screwed up all by himself? Gee I know, because it'll prove that his accountants played a big role in this and will take ALL the fun out of condemning Geithner, A Democrat.)
2) Telephone interviews
were conducted with THREE of Mr. Geithner's ACCOUNTANTS. Mr. Geithner met personally with staff on December 19,2008
to answer questions about the self-employment tax issue and other issues identified
during the course of the document review.

3)Under section 3121(b)(15), international organizations like the IMF are exempted from
the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA, or social security taxes). Such
organizations do not pay the employer share of FICA. There is no employee liability for
the employee share of FICA and there is no payroll withholding for the employee's share.
Under section 1402(c)(2)(C), service performed by an employee of such an organization
is treated as service that is subject to the Self-Employment Contributions Act...

4)Mr. Geithner acknowledged receiving all of the documents. He wrote
contemporaneous checks to the 1RS and the State of Maryland for estimated tax
payments in amounts THAT TIED EXACTLY TO THE FED + STATE TAX ALLOWANCES REPORTED ON THR IMF QUARTERLY WAGE STATEMENTS
**He did not write checks corresponding to the self-employment tax allowance that was separately stated directly underneath the federal and state allowance amounts.**--THAT WAS HIS MISTAKE. THIS SOUNDS LIKE CRIMINAL INTENT?The rest is yours to read--all 30 official pages.

This is the same document

Either he is very DUMB or he tried to GAME the system.
Furthermore he picks really incompetent Tax people. The IMF provides 27 pages of documentation on how to correctly prepare taxes while you are an employee.

So did he turn this over to the accountants?

Even in the link you provide it states that his tax software prompted him for it.

A GS1 working in the Embassy without all of that information might be expected to make a mistake.

Someone working at the IMF who used to be in Treasury, with this much information, (and getting money to pay SE) can not.

He knows that if you do not get caught by the IRS within 5 years of filing a return you will not have to pay(which is why he did nothing for 2001 and 2002 when he was caught in 2006).
SO he TOOK MONEY for Paying his SE taxes and pocketed. Sounds like fraud.

He filled out, signed and submitted an annual tax allowancerequest worksheet with the IMF that states, "I wish to apply for tax allowance of U.S.Federal and State income taxes and the difference between the "self-employed" and"employed" obligation of the U.S. Social Security tax which I will pay on my Fund

If he is so important then let him be a consultant and find someone else to head treasury.

It looks like he will get confirmed but I do not have to like it.

At least with GW when people did not like stances Harriet Myers took in the past, she did not get confirmed.

**** Cant argue with a racist pr*ck. You use my quote on criminal intent without the question mark as if i accused Geithner. Having fun? On top of that, you were either too stupid or too blinded with blackness to see that right before you stupidity there was a line that read: "He wrote contemporaneous checks to the 1RS and the State of Maryland for estimated tax
payments in amounts THAT TIED EXACTLY TO THE FED + STATE TAX ALLOWANCES REPORTED ON THR IMF QUARTERLY WAGE STATEMENTS. SO WHAT PART OF THE F**KIN EQUATION YOU DONT UNDERSTAND??? He paid the fed and state, forgot the self employment. Some crook that makes him.
And you continue with the IMF as your source. And YOU'RE calling Geithner DUMB LMFAO--"The IMF provides 27 pages of documentation on how to correctly prepare taxes while you are an employee."
AGAIN--WHY THE HELL ARE YOU QUOTING OR PROVIDING THINGS FROM IMF??!!!!! These are the same people that said "There's not a high incidence of non-payment of taxes," Bill Murray, an IMF spokesman. "We have a very low incidence of that here."
And what was the truth?? The IRS estimated in 2007 that as many as half those employees had made tax-filing mistakes, and offered a group settlement to let them correct the errors." "This is not your normal situation between an employer and an employee."
What makes you think IMF is going to make themselves look weak? They're going to do like YOU!! Look for smut to cover their ass and make it look like Geithner is the only one. I told you earlier the best source is the NEUTRAL source.
He is not DUMB like you or gaming the system the same way you're gaming me with these things taken from context and hiding the important facts. Funny you never mentioned that he used 3 accountants. When that gets thrown in your fu**kin face now you make him to be DUMB! I wish you were a lawyer because I would keep throaing so much true facts in your face whatever firm you work for would be embarrassed to have you and toss u in the dumpster where garbage racists like you belong.!!! I'm tired of this crap. Leave Barrack Obama alone he's doing his best. For christs sake he got him reported that should stand for something!!! You want to pick on a crook? Find out what your Republican Sarah Palin did with the $20 Million bridge to nowhere which was supposed to be returned when she supposedly said "thanks but no thanks" lmao another republican twister. Yea she said it, but all the republicans leave out the fact that she said only AFTER the govt refused to fork over another $300 million.
I'm tired of making you a good journalist because you're not looking for the truth. You're looking for whatever can make Geithner look guilty. He hires 3 accountants. So now they're dumb. Even though it was already stated in the SENATE FINANCE REPORT that "He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake for the average accountant to make given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions. The I.R.S. has noted that many employees of international organizations, including foreign embassies and consular offices, have made mistakes in filing their taxes.was a common one for people hired by international organizations that don't pay the employer share of Social Security taxes.
Based on your idiosyncrasies, this would mean that everyone is either DUMB or in on a f**kin scam!! Are you trying to make Bernard Madoff look innocent?? I bet you're his brother.
And then YOU continue to forget to see the entire big picture because GOD forbid a black man does something right. BUT IT WAS OBAMA THAT DISCOVERED THE $25,000 from 2001 & 2002!! Where was the IRS?? This was an IRS screw-up more than anyone else's. THen the accountants that Geithner hired. THe last and least of the guilty is Geithner. he filled out the draft with whatever reciepts and documents he gave, but you hire Accountants to finish the job and make sure it's done correctly. I know your whole tweet of a tune would be different if you hired me to prepare your taxes and u end up owing $20,000 and all the fingers get pointed at you being a crook.
Dont you feel like heartless sh*t?? Everytime you come back with whatever ignoranus claim you can invent, you get hammered down like a wrecking ball into a brick building.
Frankly i dont care, I'm having fun. But its you thats gonna have a heart attack with all that hatred and bias inside.

An innocent mistake, huh?"
**Its comments like that, that triggers off these back and forth fights. You oughtta know that this election has been very racially tensed. Any type of comment against Obama only boosts the bias. Unless, of coarse they're true and factual remarks.
Even in your own post you were kind enough to inform us that "it wasn't until much later -- days before Obama tapped him to head Treasury late last year -- that Geithner paid back most of the taxes, incurred in 2001 and 2002. He did so after Obama's transition team found that Geithner had made the same tax mistake his first two years at the IMF as the one the IRS found he made during his last two years there."
So why and how would this make Obama such a bad person. I know you didn't say that per say, but assuming that Geithner purposely and intentionally tried to evade tax, reflexes Obama. Try going into any blog site and everyone is calling Obama a ringleader.
The Senate Defense Report clearly stated that when it comes to international organizations (which IMF), it is very common to make errors on their self employed tax retirns. From the Senate's Report: "an accountant advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes. He relied on his accountant and that could have been an easy mistake given the complexity of the code sections involving exceptions to exceptions." It also goes on to say that used 3 CPA's to handle his work. All Geithner did was prepare a rough draft. Just like a boss and a secretary. The secetary gets a draft from the boss and she has to finish the rest.
He signed papers every year?? C'mon, when your tax preparer tells you to sign here, do you actually read all the little fine print and clauses before signing. Yea u would say YES, but we know its not true. Noone reads that especially if you have an accountant doing your work. He paid his federal and state taxes because that's easy. As the Senate report says, self employed tax gets a bit complicated. ""The I.R.S. has noted that many employees of international organizations, including foreign embassies and consular offices, have made mistakes in filing their taxes.was a common one for people hired by international organizations that don't pay the employer share of Social Security taxes. The IRS estimated in 2007 that as many as half those employees had made tax-filing mistakes, and offered a group settlement to let them correct the errors." "This is not your normal situation between an employer and an employee."
Another comment you made indicating corruption:"I bet if any one of us here forgot to pay $34,000 to the IRS, it wouldn't be viewed as a "mistake".
**Well maybe so if you were filing your basic 1040 and state returns. We're talking a whole different game.
"How coincidental that he paid the rest of the taxes back "days before" he became Obama's pick." Another jab. Look it's not a "COINCIDENCE" the way you make it to be. He was being incestigated by the President of The United States. They found he failed to pay $25k in taxes and when brought to his attention he paid it. What Coincidence is that?
Then the housekeeper. Thats a cruel remark. Lots of rich people hire immigrants because they can trust them. Its sad that we cant trust our own citizens with the house w/o having to worry about their jewlry being stolen. An immigrant steals something, you know where they'll going. He forgot her expiration date, so that's intentional crime? Look, you know the guy is innocent. Why go there. What if you were from Honduras where the guerellas are always blowing someone away? You sneak here and get a job cleaning and maintaining a house? No they're making her a public issue. Really, man leave it alone. There's nothing he did to insinuate criminal intent and being Head Treasurer does not need you need a degree in bookkeeping or a certificate from H&R block. To a high ranked official like Geithner, tax returns are embarrassing and an insult. Ask Donald Trump if he knows where his W-2 from 2005 is and i'll bet you he'll respond "call my accountant."". Or "I'll give you my accountant's number."

It's also been reveled that his housekeeper's legal immigrant work permit was expired for 3 and a half months during which she was employed by him.

Senator Harry Reid called these mistakes "little hiccups".

If you're a spokesperson for anything, that means you're speaking in behalf of other people who know do the job.

Because I know everyone else who's been laughing at you can see that it wasn't that he ignored it, His three accountants told him he was EXEMPT from SE tax. EVERYONE in their right frame of mind knows that Geithner failed to pay SE TAX by now; and why!! Except the racists, the stupid, the ignorant, the morons, the imbesils, the brain-dead, you know, YOU!!!

1. I did not alter your post that was Wizbangblog so please talk to them.
2. Self Employment Tax Them employer contribution of the SE tax is what the IMF gave him money to pay. He never used that money to pay the SE tax. He ignored the SE tax on his statement.
3. For 15 years this guy has had tax problems so,he really needs to hire better people.

Looks like everyone wants to give the guy pass so I guess he will be head of Treasury.

The only good part about having Tim as head of treasury is maybe he will be really nice to every one that make Honest Tax mistakes year after year and will allow every one to pay their back taxes with zero penalties.

Oh yeah and where in the report does it say he was told he did not have to pay?

Geithner told Obama's team and senators that an accountant had reviewed his tax returns after Geithner prepared them and didn't discover the problem.

At the closed-door meeting, Mr. Geithner was contrite, several participants said. He told senators the mistakes weren't intentional, but that he should have known better. The Internal Revenue Service makes up by far the largest piece of the Treasury's budget

As to why Mr. Geithner didn't pay all his back taxes after the 2006 audit, an Obama aide said the nominee was advised by his accountant he had no further liability. Senate Finance aides said they were concerned either Mr. Geithner or his accountant used the IRS's statute of limitations to avoid further back-tax payments at the time of the audit.

*** AGAIN, YOU WITH THE WORD "IGNORE'. When three of your accountants tell you "YOU'RE EXEMPT FROM SELF EMPLYMENT TAX YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY IT", how are you ignoring it? YOU'RE taking the advice of the people you hire to handleyour returns. I dunno how you see this as an "ignore" thing.
"Looks like everyone wants to give the guy pass so I guess he will be head of Treasury."
****It's not that they're giving him a pass, but when the IRS states to the Senate "that many employees of international organizations, including foreign embassies and consular offices, have made mistakes in filing their taxes. This was a common one for people hired by international organizations that don't pay the employer share of Social Security taxes. The IRS estimated in 2007 that as many as half those employees had made tax-filing mistakes, and offered a group settlement to let them correct the errors. This is not your normal sit
uation", then that makes it a very flexible situation. It would be cruel to deny him the position based on that kind of statement from the IRS.
"Oh yeah and where in the report does it say he was told he did not have to pay"
***I DELETED the entire SENATE report BECAUSE I WAS getting sick from constantly having to get back to it whenever you tried to challenge. But there are so many links to that but I'm quoting the one I know i posted and showing youthe link(s): "In 2003 and 2004, he used an accountant who advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes."
The link to that quote is here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/15/us/politics/15tax.html
There are so many links that say the same exact thing. BUT I KNOW ONE THING. THE LAST 3 PARAGRAPHS IN YOUR last post WAS NOT in the Senate Report because Something like that i would have remembered. So where did u find that?
Here is the page with all the links to the fact Tim Geithner was advised by his accountants he was exempt from SE: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=Senate+Finance+Committee+report.+an+accountant+advised+him+that+he+was+exempt+from+self-employment+taxes.&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

and i apologize for my other remark. half of the things i dont mean anyway. But it's just i really would like to see the day that people are not labled and hated because of their color. There is good and bad in all of us. But everything bad that Obama has been accused of is ridiculous. Unfortunately, he worked in a state that has bad politicians. And sometimes you have to work with them when you're in office. It doesn't make you "one of them." When you're climbing up that latter of success, all u can do is keep your mouth shut and eyes open. What was Obama to do when he got hired by The Woods Corp to worth together with Bill Ayers?? He was still a small man in the Chain of Command. Was he in position to say "No he's a terrorist"? Nice one, see ya Obama! And the fact is, Ayers was pardoned and actually named Citizen of the year around 20 yrs ago? Did Obama do this? So this "palling around with terrorists" crap is a sign of bigotry in my book. Tony Rezko was another issue. If you ever read Rezko's history, this man tried to buy every politician in Illinois. wikipedia: "Antoin "Tony" Rezko (born 1955) is a Syrian-American political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois, convicted on several counts of fraud and bribery in 2008. Rezko has been involved in fundraising for local Illinois Democratic and Republican politicians since the 1980s. The man contributed to both republican and dem's. If you care, look at this link and you'll see just some of the people he contibuted. Including George Bush like 5 times. http://www.newsmeat.com/ceo_political_donations/Tony_Rezko.php
So if you opened it, you saw some of the Atoine (Tony) Rezko donations. He's a joke. Obama took his $10,000 contribution and donated it to charity. It still didn't matter. Obama got hammered. Noone else, noone mentioned that he donated to Bush 5 times, but Obama. So u see how it looks racial? And this thing with the house, it was Tony's house. If he worked out a deal with Obama, how is that criminally related? Obama's not stupid. He knows Rezko was trying to kiss up. Did Obama do any favors for rezko? The guy just got convicted 16 out of 24 counts of fraud and bribery. And so many other things. If you ever saw All In the Family, you can say I'm Mike Stivic.

No one told him he was exempt

Mr. Geithner self-prepared his original tax returns for years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005.He used paid tax preparers to prepare his original tax returns for years 2003,2004,2006and 2007. He used paid preparers to prepare a 2001 amended return that was filed inJuly, 2002, and his recently amended returns for years 2001,2002,2004,2005 and 2006.All returns were filed using married filing jointly filing status

I use ignore, because if you look on page and it says pay A, B, C, D
and then select to pay A & B and not C & D you are active. Now if he dd not request money to pay C & D ok., but he did.

The statements I used were not in report but from senator who were there.

In this case my problem is with Tim not BHO.

BTW Ayers was never pardon.

***YOU'RE JOKING ME. I KNOW U ARE. I KNOW GUYS LIKE YOU. YOU LIKE TO PISS PEOPLE OFF AND THEN REPORT THEM. I DONT THINK ANY SITE WOULD BAN ME IF YOU REPORTED ME AND SAW WHAT A MORON YOU ARE. DUDE I GAVE YOU LINKS TO OVER 100 SITES THAT ALL SAY THE SAME THING:
1)The transition office says an accountant prepared Geithner's 2003 and 2004 returns. The transition memo says that the accountant "prepared Mr. Geithner's 2003 and 2004 returns and advised him in writing that HE WAS EXEMPT [from] self-employment taxes on his IMF income.--NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE 1/16/09
2) Politics: Geithner Tax Woes Examined
Jan-14-2009, All Things Considered
"According to the Obama team, his accountant advised him in writing that he was exempt from self-employment taxes on his IMF income."--NCR Press.
3)"The Senate documents said that Mr. Geithner had prepared his own taxes in 2001 and 2002. However, an accountant reviewed his 2001 return and also failed to catch the mistake. In 2003 and 2004, he used an accountant who advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes.---NY Times
4)"The Senate documents said that Geithner had prepared his own taxes in 2001 and 2002. However, an accountant reviewed his 2001 return and also failed to catch the mistake. In 2003 and 2004, he used an accountant who advised him that he was exempt from self-employment taxes"--chron.com
5)"* Mr. Geithner worked for the IMF until the fall of 2003, and he also received a small amount of income from the IMF in early 2004. An accountant prepared Mr. Geithner's 2003 and 2004 returns and advised him in writing that he was exempt self-employment taxes on his IMF income."--politico.com
***I would keep clipping and pasting, but then i would be doing your work. And Politico supports Republicans. Leslie Sanches is your equivelant. You can have the accounts tell her that they did advise Geithner and she'll call them liars. Thats why i dont take you bigots seriously. When you have so much truth presented, and where the sources came from, and you still continue to ignore it, and stick to your bullsh*t, there's no hope for you.
You even throw Ayers into this...
"BTW Ayers was never pardoned"
***jesus christ what are you trying to prove? OK U know what? He wasn't pardoned. You know why??? Because you have to be serving time in prison to be pardoned. Which Ayers never was imprisoned. If you want to be a wise ass, the exact perfect thing to say is: "In 1973, the federal government requested the dismissal of the charges against AYERS AND HIS WIFE n the interest of national security following accusations of government misconduct"---HOW'S THAT? BETTER? SCHMUCK.
IT HURTS TO REALIZE THAT WHAT YOU BIGOTS DO IS SO STUPID. THOUSANDS OF FLOATING ARTICLES ALL OVER THE INTERNET. But you ignore all of them. The reason why you don't find that his accountants advised him of his SE exemption is because the report was already written when this info was disclosed. But you just keep posting what makes the Black Man's pick criminal. He pre-paid his taxes, and you wont even say THAT. It makes your devil horns twist right? Why not realize the truth about Obama and Ayers? "Ayers and Obama worked with Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley in shaping the city's school reform program, and was one of three co-authors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge grant proposal that in 1995 won $49.2 million over five years for public school reform. In 1997 Chicago awarded him its Citizen of the Year award for his work on the project." CITIZEN OF THE YEAR?? THE TERRORIST THAT WORKED WOTH THAT N**GER?? LMAO. I CAN HEAR YOU SAYING IT. SO BLAH BLAH BLAH KEEP LIVING YOUR FANTASY'S. WHY DONT YOU WRITE TO THE THOUSANDS OF NEWS SITES THAT ALL REPORTED THAT IT WAS GEITHNER'S ACCOUNTANTS WHO ADVISED HIS EXEMPTION FROM SE THAT THEY'RE WRONG. ONLY YOU ARE RIGHT! LMFAO PLEASE DO SO. THAT'LL BE SO FREAKING HILARIOUS.
