Double Standards and Doors

It is undeniable that George Bush provided tons of material for late night comics. What is not so apparent is how much material Barack Obama has provided. It isn't apparent because those on the left and in the media either won't acknowledge it or know it is there but choose to ignore it to protect the image of the new President.

This report about Obama trying to enter the Oval Office through the window is only one of the latest examples. The story includes a reference to George Bush trying to open a door to leave a press conference only to find it locked. David Letterman recently included a video clip of Bush trying to open the locked door in the last installment of his regular feature showing embarrassing clips of Bush. I wonder how many embarrassing Obama moments will be the subject of David Letterman's comedy.

Oh please! Everyone knows that it was the door which was in the wrong spot. Why is the Right so quick to assume it was Obama that was at fault ?

I suspect a hell of a lot less than Leno will highlight, he seems to be a lot less partisan in who he pans.

(As a side note, who EVER thought replacing Leno with a dramatically unfunny red-headed step-child was a good idea?)

Yes, it was humorous and yes, there is media double standard... But so what? Let's chuckle over the former and forget about the latter.

The media knows they're inconsistent... and they don't care. No amount of complaining (or threatening to cancel subscriptions, boycott advertisers, etc.) is going to get them to cover Obama with anywhere near the scrutiny and ridicule they subjected Bush to. And the effort spent on this is time that could be used in other ways that would have a much higher return.

And even if the media could be pressured, we shouldn't want them to do so. Their coverage of Bush was over the line and I don't think we benefit by stooping to the level of our political adversaries. We're better than that.

I'm not too upset about the double-standard shown by the media; that would be like complaining about the night because it's dark (stolen from Eric Haney, author of "Inside Delta Force").

What really disturbs me is the religious devotion by the media, towards someone who is only a man, and their desperate mission to never allow him to be perceived as such.
