Exceeding Expectations

I have a new column up at Townhall:

Many on the right warned voters that if Barack Obama was elected he would spend even more money than George W. Bush and Republicans in Congress had spent. They warned he would enact policies that fit his "spread the wealth" philosophy and that his administration would be hostile to business. They warned that with a Democrat-controlled congress he would attempt to pass a very liberal agenda. In one short month, President Obama has exceeded even the wildest expectations of many of his critics.

During the campaign, those warning Barack Obama would be a typical tax-and-spend Democrat were pointed to the example set by George W. Bush and the Republicans in Congress. Voters were told the Democrats were now the party of fiscal responsibility. It is not accurate to say President Barack Obama has shown himself to be a typical tax-and-spender. He is an extraordinary one. In one short month he has made sure our great grandkids will be paying our debts with his $800 billion "stimulus" bill. At this rate, by the end of his administration George and Jane Jetson will be have a bill, too. If he gets universal healthcare, daughter Judy and their boy Elroy might just owe as well.

Read it all at Townhall.

We ain't seen nothing yet. When will we be formally directed to address one another as "comrade"?

Good question GarandFan. I pondered the same thing last night while cleaning my guns.

But then again, there is something about Americans whose bullshit radars still go off and maybe something will occur as a result in 2010.

Tax, spend and destroy. Hi... (Below threshold)

Tax, spend and destroy. His one big push to cut spending will be to diminish our military strength with defense cuts. Obama is destroying our country.

"Comrade?" "Cleaning my guns?" "Destroying our country?"

Please. Seek professional help, dudes. Paranoia can be treated nowadays.

Is depression here or not? ... (Below threshold)
Jeff:

Is depression here or not? not very clear. But if you look at the past history recessions and depressions come and go. Economies go through cycles and recession is part of the cycle.

In the mean time, I just came across a very helpful website on the current economic downturn and employment:

John:

Hey Bruce, who is the more paranoid? You read the comments and inferred something in your own delusional little liberal parasitic mind.

Have you ever gone to a gun range and fired several rounds? Do you know what happens afterwards if you don't properly maintain your weapons? It's the same if you don't maintain your car...you idiot. So yeah, I clean my weapons after I have gone to range...not that it's any of your business.

But that's okay Bruce, you are a liberal parasite waiting to get even with those "rich" folks, waiting for Obama to come around and give you something you haven't earned, believing that those liberal clowns in charge care about you...keep hope alive...

Pardon me, John, for lumpin... (Below threshold)
Bruce Henry:

Pardon me, John, for lumping you in with the paranoids. I took your mention of "cleaning my guns" as a hint that you were getting ready for some kind of Libapocalypse.

Yeah, I know you gotta clean guns after you shoot them.

Then again, you did admit to "pondering" how soon we'll be forced to "address one another as Comrade," so maybe you're a nut like Garandfan after all.

And I had to laugh at how vitriolic your reply was after years of being told about the "angry left." Maybe you don't need anti-psychotics as much as a simple diuretic for your hypertension.

Again, I urge you to seek professional help. I care.

Difference is that The ObamaMessiah will spend the money (American money) on Americans rather than Iraqis.

Don't get me wrong. I strongly support spending American money on foreign-nation-building, it's just that Iraq (with all its oil wealth) wouldn't be at the top of my list (for there's an additional, nonmonetary cost in lives lost with that one). I would prefer to spend the money on subSaharan Africa, but hey, even Mexico would be a better choice. You know how xenophobic you are, conservatives, and the better Mexico is doing, the less likely the Mexicans would come here.
